LED Killer 3.1 - New Alternative (2/20/08)

2/20/2008- no2chem has finally cracked the code and came up with a better, permanent solution for killing the service LED here - nueLED - configure/customize your LEDs... - PPCGeeks

He now has an app called nueLED that will allow you to enable, disable or redirect LED functions for any of the LEDs (bluetooth, charging, service LED etc). More improvements to come.

NOTE: no2chem's nueLED should work with any HTC device and possibly other WM phones. My older LED Killer should work fine with phones other than the 6800 if you happen be unlucky enough to have a model of phone nueLED doesn't work with.

If nueLED will work with your device then use it over LED Killer as his method is so much cleaner, has more features and uses less system resources.

--------------------------------------

LED Killer 3.1

I have attached both LED Killer 2.0 and 3.1. 2.0 uses notifications to disable the LED while 3.1 runs contstantly in the background. If 2.0 works for you then by all means use that version. If it doesn't then try the 3.1 and it should work

Update 12/29/07 - Added OEM version of LED Killer for those that want to build it into their custom ROMs. The file is named Optional_LED_Killer_3.1a.zip. There is no functional difference between this version and the regular 3.1 cabbed version. If you are not building a custom ROM then use the regular 3.1 cabbed version.

Authors
This app was co-authored by stroths and codyppc. Cody has been a great help in this project and it would not have gotten to the level of refinement it has if it wasn't for his help. You can find us at the forums of TreoCentral.com, PPCGeeks.com and PDAPhoneHome.com.

Description
This fix disables the green flashing service LED seen on some Pocket PC phones like the Mogul. It will retain all other flashing alerts (email, sms, et) and the charging LEDs while not affecting the vibration function. This app should work on other PPC phones other than the Mogul, but its only been tested on this phone.

Instructions
1) Install cab file to main memory or the storage card. I would suggest the main memory as it has a very small footprint.
2) Reboot

Bugs/Issues
- QuickMenu - When you enable the option "Show on all titlebars". LED Killer will not stop the LED from flashing if this option is enabled in QuickMenu. Under Quickmenu's options, go to the view tab and uncheck "Show on all titlebars" to resolve the compatibility.
- Not compatible with the LED controller HERMLED. Remove HERMLED and reboot before installing this.
- Versions 2.0 and below do not appear to play nicely with iLock

Uninstall
- Use the normal uninstall procedures of Start-> Settings-> System -> Remove Programs
- Reboot

Credits
First and foremost, I would like to thank zbop from TreoCentral for creating the TreoLED.exe app. It is at the core of this fix and would not be possible without it (Question: What's red and green... - TreoCentral.com)

I would also like to thank hannip for his continued mortscript help. I got the idea on writing the mortscript for this fix after seeing a mortscript hannip from TreoCentral wrote.

History

LED Killer 3.1
- Minor update to fix bug from version 3.0 where the LED would flash orange when charging and no notifications were present. Now the solid orange LED will turn off when you first plug it in the charger for about 3 or 4 seconds then turn back on like normal. The green flashing LED is still suppressed like normal.

LED Killer 3.0
- Did away with using the notifications queue. Now the app runs in resident memory and should resolve issues others were having with previous versions.

LED Killer 2.0
- No need to install Mortscript or manually run Mortscript.exe to function properly.
- No need to manually remove notification when doing an uninstall of this version
- Changed the way the Mortscripts are called which should help with situations where program was not initiating under certain circumstances.
- Added icon to LEDoff.lnk shortcut in \Windows\Startup.
- Can now be installed on the SD/microSD card, but it only takes up about 150k, so you should install it in main memory to ensure reliability.

LED Killer 1.0
- New Name
- Removed need for Mortscript to be preinstalled
- Put in a cab file installer format

SLO-MO 1.0
- Original beta version replaced by LED Killer

Future Plans
- Gain control over other LEDs

I wrote the mortscript, but the treoled.exe was made by zbop. I'm sure there are ways to add in a notification without a 3rd party app, but I don't know how. For now, memmaid works well.

This has worked with the device on or off on the 2 6800s I have tested on. I would appreciate any help you can provide as this is one of my first mortscripts.

EDIT: After a little research, I found a way to add and remove the notification without the need of MemMaid. Therefore, you can install all of this without any commercial software.

I have attached an additional zipfile to the main post which contains the two files below. Unzip them and put them in your \SLO-Mo directory.

InstallNotification.mscr - Run this once. It will appear as if nothing happened, but it does install. Only run it once or it will put multiple entries in the notification queue which is not a good thing.

RemoveNotification.msc - Removes the entry or entries in the notification queue for this app.

Okay, the concept sounds good. I'm just a little unclear regarding the instrucitons. I've created a folder: \storage card\slo-mo In that folder, I have 7 files. I've installed the MortScript program, also onto my Storage card. I put the Slo-Mostartup.lnk in the Startup folder. Now what?

This app is not setup to run on the storage card. Technically its possible, but you would have to modify the links as well as the included mortscripts.

You need to have the folder in the root directory of your Mogul's internal memory (AKA "My Device") which is the same place other folders like Program Files and Windows are located. It will look like \SLO-Mo when you look at it using the file explorer.

You said you already copy the appropriate file to the startup folder. If you have copied the SLO-MoNotification.mscr to the notification queue as described in step 3 (or using the file from the "Update" section), then you are done and just need to reboot.

I think I've followed all the directions. I'm still not getting it to work. How do I add the notification without MemMaid . How do I run the Installnotification.mscr file? Sorry for being such a noob.

Did you install mortscript? If so, you just have to browse to the \SLO-Mo directory on your phone with the file browser of your choice and click (or double-click) the Installnotification.mscr. You only need to do this ONCE or you will have multiple entries in your Notification Queue. Make sure you have the appropriate link copied to your \Windows\Startup and reboot. That should take care of it. Let me know how it works for you.

Well...no go for me. I think I did everything correctly. I guess I'll have to wait for the .cab file BTW, does the mortscript need to installed in the device or can it be installed onto the storage card? I'll keep trying if you have suggestions on what I'm doing wrong.

@Bongus
I personally have mort installed in the main memory of the Mogul since it has so much available. It sounds like the mortscript is not running for some reason causing the treoled.exe to never be executed. Cody is working on the cab file, so it should not be too long before that version is available.

When you look at mortscripts on your phone, do they have a wavy gray icon with an "M" on it? If so, then your mortscript installation should be fine as its associated with .mscr files.

EDIT: Please download the attached test.zip and unzip the test.lnk anywhere on your phone and then run it. It issues the command "\SLO-Mo\TreoLED.exe Off". The Mortscript I wrote runs this command if there are no alerts waiting. Let me know if that link kills the flashing LED. If it does, then its something to do with mortscript.

@94tbird
Not with the treoled.exe. It doesn't do anything for the blue LED as it was designed for a Treo. It's just luck that it works on the Mogul for the service LED.

I still get a flashing orange LED when I get a text message on mine. Under Start -> Settings -> Sounds and Notifications -> Notifications, do you have the box checked beside "Flash Light for" event "Messaging: New text message" and "Messaging: Threaded SMS" (if you use that app)?

Also, do you use any other 3rd party app that controls the LED?

I installed this and it works. However, when I put my phone in sleep mode (via the power button) and turn it back on, the green LED starts up again. I can turn it off again by running the shortcut in my startup directory.

Is this normal or should the green light stop blinking even after resuming from sleep mode?

Well why wasnt that put that on the instruction? haha Jk. Thanks that fixed it! I was having issue not getting all my text with threaded SMS so I deleted it earlier and reinstalled. Didn't realize it disables the LED notification by default.

i just uninstalled the old version (by deleting th SLO-Mo folder) and now every time i start up windows or put the device out of sleep, I get a Cannot execute \SLO-Mo\SLO-MoNotification.mscr error.

How do I get rid of this error? I also uninstalled MortScript and don't have anything in my /windows/startup folder.

Do you still have the original RemoveNotification mortscript? If so, reinstall mortscript then run that script to remove the notification. You can also use an app like MemMaid or SKTools to remove the notification.
