My most recent hardreset left me doing a softreset right after boot before the ExtROM could install. So far, everything seems to work just fine, until I made a couple voice calls....
The earpiece speaker volume is MUCH lower, maybe 30-40% lower, than it was before!
I'm guessing there is a registry modification done by one of the .cabs in the ExtROM.
Would someone please use a .cab editor and review all of the .reg files in them and figure out which entry from which .cab is making the difference?!
This also may help out other people increase their earpiece volume as well and not just people like me who are not using the ExtROM.
Ok, I found some settings that actually make a difference for me!
Using a registry editor, change the following settings:
1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER
2. ControlPanel
3. SoundCategories
4. InCall
5. InitVol
6. Change the value to 5 (default was 2)
1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER
2. ControlPanel
3. SoundCategories
4. Attenuation
5. 2
6. Change the value to 5 (default was 1)
If you notice, when you go to change the InitVol, the AttenuationCategory it's listed under is 2. That's why when you go to the Attenuation settings, you change the #2 setting to 5 from it's default? Make sense?
5 is the max allowed value for any of these settings. I tried 6 and it did not have any effect.
Wait a bit before softresetting then go back into the registry and verify that the changes kept. Then test call your phone. When you answer you phone, I had to use the scroll wheel to bump back up to the highest setting because somehow these changes bumped it down 1 notch, however once I did that, the earpiece volume went up ALLOT! Maybe even higher than it was with the .cab setting in the ExtROM that SPCS gives.
This will also work for louder ringer volume too because that also has similar registry keys. IMO though, the Moguls ringer volume is plenty loud, any louder and it will distort.
Enjoy! I hope this works for most people!
I guess when I get some time I'll look into the ExtROM .cabs and check out their .reg settings. I used to be all geeked out with my 6600 and didn't wanna get that way again, that's why I asked other people. I even deleted about 200MB's worth of PPC software, editors, etc. from my PC. Once you get started, it's a slippery slope I've even forgotten what editor I used to create and edit .cab files, lol. Hell, my 6600 had a complete custom ExtROM all with custom made .cabs, most from total scratch, lol. I've hardreset my phone about 5 times since I got it and I have it down just perfect now! I'm going to delete and build an entire custom ExtROM for my Mogul that will install .cabs for everything in the order that I think they should be too. I'll also create a .cab that mods all of my registry settings. I think I have about 10 custom registry settings, compared to like 25 on the 6600, WM6 just rocks! Lol.
The Attenuation part of your instructions don't match up for me.
In the Attenuation group I have 3 values, 0, 1 and 2. 0 has the Data 0 assigned to it. 1 and 2 have the Data 1 assigned to it. None of them have a default of 2.
Now in the InCall group, Attenuation Category is 2 but you don't say to change that.

My bad, I must have mis quited the original value of 2. The one's that 2 with a value of 1 then is the one you change to a value of 5. I'll edit my post. Thanks!

I also did the reset during hard reset but after the discussion below (see link) I ran AudioPara0330.sa.cab which does a whole bunch of Audio changes. I don't believe it adds anything to RAM.
Yeah I read that but I'm still not clear on what entries it changes and from what to what. I'll take that .cab apart when I get home and check out it's .reg file inside it.
I have the old one for the 6700 but i'm assuming it wont work for the 6800. Can you link me to the topic?
Here is the one posted but it is only an unhider, it does not unlock it. I'm not able to remove any of the files from the ExtROM. I'm hoping by the time I'm done cooking my own ExtROM, a unhider will have been made...
EDIT: Hmmm, after searching I can't find it anymore Anyone else know what happened to that post with the ExtROM unhider?
i did this reg hack, waited 5 min, then soft rebooted. i noticed no audio difference at all
Do you have your ExtROM installed? This is for people like me who don't. The chances are very good that the mods I mentioned are done by a .cab already. As I mentioned in my first post, I only noticed my audio went lower AFTER I hardreset without the ExtROM.
Just run that cab and you'll get the same setting as if you ran the extended ROM. Without any other side effects.
I posted both files that have the audio settings. You can download and diff them.
I think it may be more complicated than just a registry change. I think it changes what the registry maps to. Or it loads the file on each boot. If the file was not used I don't it would be left in the windows directory.
Well I just went to run that audio .cab you mentioned and it errors and says that the installation was unsucessful
I don't get why?
EDIT: WTF?! I just went to check my list of installed apps and the entire list is cleared!!! It's like trying to install that audio .cab deleted the list! Arg...
Edit: I just checked my Remove Program list and it looks cool. Sorry man don't know why it did that. How did you run it and which cab file did you run?
