A friend of mine works for Verizon and I called him about the 4gb cards. He said he thinks he should be able to get 48% off - so I'm waiting for him to get me one. $52 for 4gb - not bad eh?
I had ordered the one from Amazon, and from what I can see, they are, unfortunately, fakes. The card is a bit too large (got stuck in the slot), the SanDisk logo is missing completely, the SanDisk name is in a slightly different font (the SD adapter card looks plain as can be), and, more importantly, none of my computers can read it. The 6800 reads it, but I don't feel like entrusting any of my data to it. All of you who got your cards from "nextweb" via Amazon, I think you might want to return them.
Update: Called sandisk, the serial number checks out. However, I'm still not convinced: The "Class 2" certification symbol appears on the wrong side of the card. I'm sending them a picture - I suppose it's possible that the serial number was copied, since there's nothing preventing that.

Hmm. I picked up a card from Verizon to as well to compare. The class 2 certification symbol is indeed not on the front and the serial number was too difficult to make out on its own. Everything else seems to be indentical to what I got from the Verizon store. I sent it back to Next Web for a replacement but I can always get a refund instead.
Keep us updated.

I sent a macro photo that I took with my DSLR to SanDisk, who will hopefully verify it that way. The card performs quite nicely according to Pocket Mechanic, as far as I can tell, and the device manufacturer string does say SanDisk. I'm still not convinced. It barely ejects, and none of my PCs read it whatsoever.
As a followup, if the serial number is valid, and it's not authentic, did everyone who purchased one of these get the same serial number?
Model number is: SDSDQ-4096
Serial number on mine is: 0709302340D. Anyone else have this same serial?
When you get your card, check the serial on it, I wonder if it's the same. How do they fake one? Very carefully. During benchmarks, it crashed Pocket Mechanic, consistently. I'm now doing a low-level format (if that's even applicable) to see what the deal is. May be a rebadged 2GB card, or could be anything. Fakers are desperate to get their money, a friend of mine bought a "SanDisk" 2GB Ultra II CF card, it had the pull-ridge on the wrong side, and no serial number. After using it for a while, he ended up losing over 150 photos from a climbing trip. I figured we'd be safe with Amazon, but then again, a third party sold it, so...
Anyway, as it turns out, this "Next Web" sells these exact cards on eBay - and given people's experiences with eBay flash cards, oh boy.
Update: Card failed to reformat and is now dead even to the PPC. I'm not waiting for SanDisk to reply to my question, it's going back and I'm buying a replacement at Newegg, where I know I won't get any crap like this.
The vendor insists the card is authentic, and from his sales history, it may be the case, so I'll try to have Sandisk send me a new one, perhaps I can make it work that way.
My phone reads it as 3.84 which is right for a 4gb card.
It does take some coaxing to get it out of my phone, but it has 8 times more memory than the 512mb, so it seems like a little stiffness is ok.
Some card readers especially older ones will not read over 2gb.
I have 3 card readers at home, "used to manage a few computer shops", and 2 of my three card readers will not read my 2gb card. I had to get a new one to read my 2gigger.
I have not made it home to test on my readers, but i hope i dont need another one.
Btw i just tried the 4gb micro with the sd adapter and the ones we have at work dont see it. They are pretty old card readers though, ala usb 1.1
I will try to take a good pic of the 4gb card and put it on this forum with my canon at home, so we can compair our cards, i could not find a macro function on the 6800's camera.
hopefully its a legit card. Im gonna hazard a guess and say its the real thing.
