Solution found. Version 2.1 (beta) works... just that it's an older version that doesn't support headset.. and a vew other things. I'm feeling better about it though. Seeing that I'll be using it when I'm trying to save on minutes anyway.
Hi all
could anyone put the skype 2.1 beta file on this forum
I registered on ppc geeks but it won't let me get the zip file. I don't know why
thanks in advance for the help
For the New ROM I tried both the beta and the one currently the skype page, both will install but will hang on the start up screen and an error of "could not start skype"

I am having the exact same issue. Sad, because I had just gotten it working on my 6700 last week. Upgraded to 6800 and it doesn't work.
I'm currently in the works of trying to use a 3rd party app to utilize Skype. Fring is looking the most hopeful.
I had skype working using 2.1 on last Mogul Rom, once I updated it would not work. I downloaded the latest one and it did not work either. I wrote to Skype and got this answer:
Note that even if your device is not on the list, Skype may still run on it as long as it meets our minimum requirements.
The minimum requirements to run Skype 2.2 for Pocket PC are:
OS: Microsoft Pocket PC 2003, Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition (SE) or Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC for Pocket PC version or Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003, Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003 Second Edition (SE) or Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone for Smartphone version
I got the 2.2 beta working yesterday on my Verizon XV-6800. It wouldn't install from the .exe; I had to download the .cab .
Texting is great; I love the slick, desktop-like interface, the huge choice of emoticons, and the shortcuts to phrases like "can't talk now." You can even search for fellow Skypers by location, just as you can on the desktop version. But in the brief text I conducted from my 6800 to my wife's cell across the room, I couldn't hear her replies. Skype voice appears to require a headset. Also, latency was at least 1/2 second.
Could not control myself and tried the new Beta 2.2.0.38 and it also does not work with headsets or BT. You hear a ring, but nothing after. I am not sure this is really the new version advertised as 2.2.0.45. I installed from the executable and the cab.... the same.

Has anyone tried getting Skype to work lately? I downloaded the application from http://www.towers.fr/SkypeForPocketPC_Beta.exe. It installs just fine but when I launch the program it just hangs and doesn't boot.
Is there any version that is known about that allows voice calls to take place, whether or not a headset is involved? I'm willing to use a wired headset or Bluetooth headset if needed; I just want it to work.
