My phone died. Need advice

I have been reading this forum for the past few months waiting for the PPC 6800 to come out. I haven't been in a huge hurry because my Verizon Wireless contract didn't expire until mid May. I was planning to purchase the SERO plan with the PPC 6800 as soon as it was available.

Well, my existing phone died this past weekend (standard voice phone - no data/non PDA). I called Verizon and they told me that I could only get a new phone if I wanted to sign a new 2 year agreement. No Thanks.

I ended up calling Sprint to see if they could do anything for me because I can't be without a phone for work until the PPC 6800 comes out. I ended up ordering the SERO 500 plan with the PPC 6700 for $288 and she told me that I could exchange it for the 6800 within 30 days. Do you think I made the right choice? I am pretty much screwed if it doesn't come out on the 18th, but then again, I am screwed if I don't have a phone for work.

I am also worried that it may be out on the 18th, but they will tell me that it isn't available when I call to exchange my phone. In that case, if I return my 6700, will they let me get the discount on the 6800 when it becomes available?

It would have been easier if my old phone held out for another few weeks.

If you see the 6800 in the middle of the month go ahead with the exchange. Otherwise purchase a BASIC cheap phone on Ebay. Use it until the 6800 comes out. Even when you have the 6800, you'll be glad that you have a standby/backup phone just in case you loose or break the 6800 and are without a phone for a short time.

I've been waiting for Verizon to release the XV6800 for over a year now. My 6600 is so retarded at this point that it barely works. Hopefully the impending iPhone release will prod Verizon to release the XV6800 soon.

So return the 6700 if the 6800 is not out and live with an old phone while waiting? If I do that, will I be eligible for the discount in a month or two? The lady who I ordered the phone from claimed that the discount would show up on my account again after they receive the phone back if I return it within 30 days, so I may try that.

I'm just crossing my fingers that it isn't an issue once June 18th rolls around.

June is for business / possibly web, the month after for stores, or so the rumors go.

I didn't buy at a store, I bought online through the SERO site. Does that qualify as business? The funny thing is that when I called the other day to ask some questions about SERO, she told me that if any new phones were coming out they would get them on June 18th because that is when the pricing is set to change. She told me this unprompted. With that said, she didn't know anything about the 6800.

Again, crossing my fingers.
