Waitaminit...they state here that it's a 5-way dpad, when in another post it was "confirmed" that it was in fact a 9-way. That will suck for gaming if it is indeed another 5-way, but still better than the stubby little stick on the 6700.
yeah i read that, he said it is just a projection date. It did put a smile to my face, But im still expecting the worse, cause anything can happen. I dont want the samething to happen to me, where i get all happy and come may 15 and nothing.
I wonder when Verizon will release THEIRS? I have been waiting for it for a while. They are clueless in the stores about it!

there's no way around it for sprint...they cannot afford to miss the new june 18th release date, even if it's only with limited quantities. the iphone is due on the 29th and att will probably also get the htc kaiser before october. if sprint doesn't hang on to what's left of their ppc users by releasing this in june, there's no way they'll hang on to them until october.

You're absolutely right. If June 18th comes and goes without the 6800/Mogul release, it becomes a moot point in my world. I'll jump to AT&T and get an 8525, or maybe even a Kaiser, depending on release date. My wife is interested in the new Blackberries, anyway, so it will be easy to convince her to switch.

Anyone have any idea how many users we're talking about? I mean, other then us same 1000 people spread over three web forums
This can't be sprint's biggest concern. They still view this as a business phone, after all.
And yeah, sprint will keep my business as long as they keep giving away data. I don't care what the phone looks like as long as it gets me access to unlimited wireless data for $10-$15/mo. The 6700 does, the 6800 will. Both will beat the living crap out of the iPhone for wireless data access. Works for me, my guess it works for most folks on Sprint.
I am really wondering how many users also have PDAs? Im thinking of getting the goldfish x500 and going to cingular I loose 3G data but I gain VGA and GPS.

I think a 3G, VGA, GPS Device will lure alot of users away from any carrier. God forbid it having a real web browser

I don't have sales numbers, but I'd wager that the percentage of PPC phone users that actually post (or even read) these forums is proportionate to the number of talk radio listeners who actually call in. It's always the same tiny group of hardcore listeners, with the occasional first time caller.
FWIW, at this moment there are 58,199 members on this forum (PDAPhoneHome). That would account for roughly $1.5 million in equipment alone, assuming they're all owners of an average $200-300 smartphone or PDA. I think interest in this type of device will only grow once the iPhone is out, and hopefully we'll see a more user friendly interface as a result.
I've been watching these theads for awhile, awaiting May, then October, then June. I noticed everything is saying June 18th now.
It didn't click for me until I read a postcard from Sprint in the past 2 weeks, trying to get me to upgrade my treo 650. The offer would get me like $250 off a new phone purchase. Funny enough, the offer expires on JUNE 17th. Coincidence?

I would have to say yes and no. I think that sometime readers of this board can have a case of tunnel vision and think a successful carrier means one who has the lowest plans and highest tech. In reality most cell phone companies make money from big long lasting accounts and ones that don't use lots of features. Your grandmother who never uses her cell phone and just pays the plan month after month would probably be the bigger loss than most of us as far as overall profitable customer.
However on the other hand many companies go out of business when their cash cows are gone. The non tech cell phones and plans are now commodity items. I judge technology acceptance by who buys them. When I see people who barely can use a computer by a treo 650 or PPC 6700 what does that tell you? The phone is aimed at businesses but you have all these people that don't know how to use it (don't even know about data plans etc...) buy it. I'll do a quick survey. I personally know about 15 people with the 6700. Only two of them will probably ever visit this site. Only two of them bought the phone for work. The rest both saw mine and thought they would like it or just bought it to text. Those are the cash cows that will leave sprint for the business silly/consumer smart iPhone.
Then you have the two left over us tech guys. I won't buy an iphone, I won't switch to ATT for the 8525 because the data on ATT is too much. But I will switch if all sprint has to offer is the 6800 in October and if i can get a Toshiba 900 or the Kaiser on ATT - you know what I think I would have enough business case to get my work to pitch in for the extra fees.
So there is my little informal survey. Sprint you're already screwed on the 6800 - sorry. Can you do anything? Yea get a HTC to make at min the Kaiser and get it before October before all the 6700 contracts start coming up. At least you will keep some of us tech guys around. Then others will look and say hey how come you can download music so much faster on your phone, I want one.

you have to realize that most users aren't buying service...they're buying a phone...or what they think is "cool". they sign up with a carrier because they saw a certain phone and will take whatever service that comes with it. just about everyone already has a mobile phone so the majority of customers companies are now seeking are the ones using other carriers. if sprint doesn't have a phone that can compete with the several phones att will have to offer this summer, they WILL lose a LOT of customers. sure they'll keep the people like you that understand and appreciate the advantages of sprint's data plan but i really don't believe that your type of customer is the majority...in fact i think it's just the opposite.
people like me that are suffering with a treo right now because sprint can't even replace a 6700 aren't going to hang around for very much longer. i can promise one way or another that i'll be rid of this pos treo by june 19th. if i have to say goodbye to my great data plan to do it...i'll be taking my business accounts with me.

I'm in charge of IT for several companies. I've had people just drop their current BB or Treo to get the blackjack after they saw the commercial. Coolness of toys is important to a lot of execs. Business cards, cars, watches, cell phones, even laptops are all important in the one upsmanship of our current business culture. Hell, even BT headsets are part of their plumage. And if it isn't one upsmanship, you better be able to keep up with the joneses. Since they can charge this toy back to the company they could give a flying diddley about the ETF - it is essential to their job even if the upgrade wasn't so it is easy for them to say they had to have it.
And if anyone asks me what the best PDAphone is on the market, I'm certainly not going to say it is one available from Sprint or Verizon. I prefer the blackjack over the Q although they aren't significantly different I think the blackjack is better made. The Kaiser from HTC blows the doors off the 6800 from HTC. And if they want even better stuff, the Eten x800 looks great and the Imate's ultimates look great as well at this point. The only reason I give them for not leaving is the added expense of bulding up a new discount with AT&T. So if the IT execs are telling their clients the better phones are not from Verizon or Sprint, what do you think the suits are going to want for their phone - do you think they care about the initial additional monthly cost? What do you think they bookeepers or secretaries are going to do about their phones? Easier to pay one bill - we'll switch everyone to one carrier and get a bigger group discount!
Geeks or not, we have a significant impact on the purchasing patterns of a LOT of companies.
