"All I do is connect to PowerVision in the USBmodem side, and then use INTERNET CONNECT (located in the Applications folder) on the 10.4 side to dial #777 (no user or password) and I am fully connected. You have to initially set up the #777 dialing in SYSTEM PREFERENCES -->NETWORK (you'll need to have the phone connected prior to setup)."
Man, I would love to make this work. The BT connection is made thru PAN,
but it is dog slow... I get maybe 80kbit, not the 6-700kbit I get with the PC
usb.
I'm too big a mac dummy to set it up. I keep getting the thing to want
a phone line to dial the #777, so somehow I'm not getting the concept
that it's an external USB modem across. I have 10.4.10 installed.
In SYSTEM PREFERENCES > NETWORK, I see "Automatic." Are you selecting
"Modem?" If so, which modem do you pick? If not, what are your settings?
PPP?
I can't pick any modem that looks like it might be external usb. They all
want a phone line. Even ones that say things like cdma.
On the 6800, I realize one must start explorer. But then do you start
internet sharing, or does the mac find it without that?
This is so close. I'm panting! Would you please flesh out the details a bit?

If anyone is having the same problem as I was - that is being constantly disconnected while bluetooth tethering - I think I found a solution. I, first, sync via bluetooth, then open PIE, then ICS PAN, then make the PAN connection on the PC. The only time it gave me a hard time was when I was driving and may have gone through a weak area then got the error 67 thing. I, then, closed ICS, reopened it, connected/error 67, disconnected, closed and started over. Sounds like a lot, but was no biggie and was bt tethering for about an hour traveling through several towers without disconnecting. Hope this helps.

I have had the i500 clam shell PDA through Sprint for many years - it's a great phone but I'm considering switching to the Mogul. Currently I tether (I guess that's the word?) with a cable to my laptop while on the road to receive mail email and respond. I've never been charged and I do not have a data plan with Sprint. My usage is not great, just email and an occasional web surf maybe 2 or 3 times a month tops.
So I'm afraid to switch phones because maybe I will not be able to use it as a modem at all without having to sign up for the monthly plan at $40 or so.
Question - can you still use the Mogul as a modem without the plan? If so, do you pay a usage fee? How much? etc. Can you use it as a modem with small data transfers and not be charged at all?
Disable NAI and you'll be fine. If you're -really- worried, you can use PDANet or USB modem, but I just use the built-in ICS app.
I'm sort of a semi-newbie - what is NAI and what does disabling do re: charges? Also, what do you mean by using PDANet or USB modem - are those software setups on the phone itself.
Finally, does the Mogul come with it's own data cable or is that a 3rd party add-on to be purchased?
My i500 is connected via a usb cable and I installed the Sprint modem drivers.
We have a few phones and for one of them was an i500. It was under the grandfathered unlimited vision plan. When we upgraded this particular phone to the Mogul, we were required to upgrade the plan to a EVDO one at $15 a month and lose the grandfathered one. I was upset but EVDO is significantly faster so I didn't complain. You cannot buy the phone without a plan. The Mogul is almost as easy to setup as the i500 for internet access - though you need a program such as PDAnet or USBmodem. I prefer much more the latter as it was cheaper and allowed my Macintosh to have both a USB and BT connection (PDAnet only offers a BT connection for Mac).
Once you have the program, just activate the PowerVision or EVDO on the phone, dial #777 on the laptop like you did with the i500 and you are tethered. No need to worry about NAI other stuff. I have been using this for a few months with light to med. usage with no consequences to our bill.
The Mogul comes with a straight USB-mini USB cable and you can use this to tether. Alternatively, you can purchase a portable cable like ours (shameless plug) as the one that comes with the phone is your main charging cable.

After deleting the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] "Extension"="rilphone.dll" It shows up again after a soft reset.
Is this normal? So you have to keep deleting that entry after every single soft reset?
No it should be gone for good, what reg edit program are you using, you may have to wait a minute or two after you make the change and then close your editor and reset, it sometimes seems to take a minute for it to actually stick.
This seems to happen sometimes for me with phm regedit, I use resco mostly now and it seems to not do it like before.
Is there separate USB modem driver so that I don't have to install Activesync on another computer? I just want to use my 6800 as a modem on another computer without having to sync to it.
For you folks who are getting no data and 67 all the time........
you will have to go to "manage existing connections then select both connections (Sprint PCS and PAM) and re-enter your user name and pass word. Then you will be back to square one. I haven't figured out what is causing these to be wiped out. Either something with the PDANet after trial or just Spring slapping us on the virtual wrist. Could be either. If it's the Sprint thing, they probably want you to call tech support and be told that you need a PAM plan (total speculation). It could be, however, that June Fabrics wants to make sure that you are not able to cheat with their software. Or, maybe, I really am stupid like I always thought and it's neither. Regardless, now you have the fix.
fyi: a hard reset will restore the vision user data for you, but is VERY invasive and time consuming as you have found.........

I tried, then I tried the hard reset, but still can't get online!!!! Can anyone help?

disabling or deleting it is just a fallacy. it doesnt do anything to prevent you from showing network usage or anything useful for that matter. there was a HUGE thread on PPCgeeks that debunked the whole thing

Actually that thread at PPC Geeks was debunking the "NAI myth", and during the discussion, luv2chill, one of the super moderators posted the following . . .
"Perhaps you're not familiar with my post history on this site, so I'll forgive you that mis-step, but you can rest assured that I don't post anything that needs debunking. I had a look in rilphone.dll with a hexeditor and saw the tethering detection logic. You're welcome to do the same.
Making this registry change will prevent Sprint from knowing you're tethering. I don't have the time nor the patience to explain it to you, other than to say that the Internet Sharing app is microsoft code, and does not have tethering detection built into it. It is extensible, however, but any of that code is not microsoft code. The link between the MS code and the 3rd party code is that registry entry. Without it, the internet sharing app will function just as it would on any other device--which is just straight IP NAT."
Okay, I'm having some problems with ICS... First off I'm running the newest 2.17 Sprint ROM that came out a couple days ago, and I have deleted the registry entry as suggested earlier in this thread.
I can get online using the phone as a modem by either opening up PIE first or just hitting connect on ICS. I then attach the phone to my notebook via USB and I can surf the web. Every time it will stay connected for a couple minutes at the most before I get disconnected. The following message then appears on the 6800:
"The remote party has ended this connection."
Has anyone else experienced this? What am I doing wrong?! Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
