Another caveat, after disconnect and going back to cable, I hit "Disable" on USBModem. A minute later or so, I tried connecting to the net through PIE. It said I "must hang up the current call" to paraphrase. Something to that effect. I thought I might have to soft reset. The icons showed no phone call in progress. But just for kicks, I hit the "End" button twice (the physical red End call button), then tried again. Since I hadn't literally closed PIE, just hit the X button (leaving it still open in my config), when I "opened" it again, nothing but a blank screen. Then I realized I hadn't really closed or re-opened it, so I used the drop-down box on the address line to go to another site. It popped right up. So maybe hitting the red End button (twice in my case) did the trick, or else it just took more time for USBModem to "let go".
What is the benefit of using PDANet (or USBmodem)? I have been tethering via ICS (using bluetooth and/or usb) - should I be worried about my bill? Some people have mentioned that it doesn't matter whether the connection is made through PV or PAM.
Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread. I just successfully tethered as per the instructions here and in this thread with PDAnet 1.8 on my very first attempt tethering with my Mogul. It took all but 15 minutes to due and than included 6 minutes to back up my phone first!!!

i have been using this for about a month without trouble. I just took a two-day road trip and tried it out heavily and had absolutely no difficulty.

Hobbes,
thanks for pointing me in the right direction and thanks to all that did the research for the ICS/reg edit method. Working great for me only cuts off once in a few minutes, but that might have to do with my bluetoothing via PAN. Thanks, all!

I dunno if Im on the right path or anything, but I just got my 6800 yesterday and I ran the ICS and then clicked on help on the start menu and it gave me the perfect directions. The only thing it missed is that when u connect the usb cable to the phone, activesync runs again on the fone. And you have to close it before connecting. If you look at the active sync on the fone it will be trying to sync which I believe is what is messin up the connection reliablity. Then if you go to your network connections on your computer you will see another Local Lan connection, if it makes u feel better to see it on the task bar you should go in the properties and check it. When you disconnect the phone it will disappear but will come back when u reconnect it. It should connect at 100Mbs. I tested the speed on speedtest.net, and got a download speed of 665kb/s and an upload speed of 122 kb/s. But i think the biggest prob is activesync trying to connect.

Lets see what I can get this week :)
After trying several methods to tether a non-windows (Nokia N800 Internet Tablet running Maemo Linux) device, nothing would provide a Dial Up Networking (DUN) BlueTooth (BT) profile to the Nokia; until I tried PDANet. I had to use a Windows Desktop to install it on Marvin, but once I did that, and paired it to the Nokia; Wallah!! There was my DUN BT profile, and I was a happy camper.
I had to set up the Nokia manually, as the wizard thought that Marvin was a GSM phone, but that was pretty simple. I just told it that it was a data connection, and the number was #777. No username or password, and I was happily surfing on the Nokia's Gorgeous screen.

I managed to make the internal Internet Sharing work with
my PC XP machine. The comment about connecting IE first
was invaluable. And man is it fast!!
From reading the documentation: 1) "Active sync 4.5 must
be installed" and 2) Active Sync must be shut down, I get
the idea that some part of active sync is involved in the
modem connection.
I seem to get fewer bars in more places with Sprint. But
it does connect.
Now, has anyone actually made this work with the Mac
and OS 10.X? I saw one note that suggested it only
worked with BT; would prefer to use the cable. I wonder
what the mac equivalent of active sync is? Do any
programs need to be installed on the Mac? No documentation
for this that I can find.
If they keepin up with the joneses, im pretty sure active sync will prob come in a mac vers. its just a matter of tyme. Microsoft + Apple = A real deal monopoly.

Lets see what I can get this week :)
I am teathering through my Mogul right now as I post this. I'm on Windows XP SP2 using USB. All I had to do was go to the Internet Sharing application and select Sprint PCS as the Network Connection. It made me reboot the machine as it must've installed a driver, but once I got up it worked. I did notice it say a couple of times that I had an invalid username/password, but they may have just been a fluke.
As a test I am getting a steady 70KB/s downloading on EVDO with 3 bars.
Im stuck here in the airport wuth one battery bar left and decde to check it out...it was never this easy on the 6700!
heres my results
After attempting to tether with ICS and PDAnet, I just gave up. However, now my phone won't connect to vision whatsoever. Everytime I try to connect, I get the "Error code: 67" message. Is the only remedy a hard reset? Can someone help me out please? Thanks.
That didn't seem to work. I tried a soft reset and everything. I've heard of some other people doing a hard reset, however, I'm trying to fix this without doing that.
Alright guys, I fixed it thanks to someone over at ppcgeeks.

i can confirm what someone else said. when you get error 67, open back up Internet connection sharing and hit connect, it will give you the error 67 again, but before you close the program HIT DISCONNECT! then close the program out and your internet should work again!
I was not able to open the link you provided for tethering with PDAnet 1.8. Could you please provide the URL?
They just did an upgrade to their whole site just after I posted the last link. All old PPCgeek links will now need to reposted or do a search there to find it again. Here is the new link:

I have been using USBmodem with a MacBook Pro running 10.4.9 for about 2.5 months now. Most of the time, I am using it with a USB cable as it provides simultaneous charging. It works absolutely wonderfully and will provide internet access with both my Mac Safari - as well as Firefox on the PC side (I am running Parallels with XP pro installed).
All I do is connect to PowerVision in the USBmodem side, and then use INTERNET CONNECT (located in the Applications folder) on the 10.4 side to dial #777 (no user or password) and I am fully connected. You have to initially set up the #777 dialing in SYSTEM PREFERENCES -->NETWORK (you'll need to have the phone connected prior to setup).
I have received no additional charges on my Sprint bill and paying only the monthly $15 charge for access on the Mogul.
As for ActiveSync, I am running Parallels on the MacBook - so I'm just syncing just like most everyone else. If you want to run an actual Mac program, then you'll need to purchase The Missing Sync from MarkSpace.com
