So, theoretically, if you signed up for their all included plan (I think it may just be NorCal), but it included unlimited minutes, text, picture and data from phone for $119, you could tether and be okay??

Hi,

I am new to this so please bear with me. I have the Mogul but It may have been messed up since activation. I've spent lots of time on the phone with Tier 2 at Sprint and have downloaded pdanet 1.80 and still cannot get more than a 100kbps on downloads. I have PAM. Any detailed suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

First, are you sure that you are on EVDO? If it shows 1X on the top of your phone, 100kbps will be normal.

Secondly, are you tethering via Bluetooth or USB? Bluetooth is significantly slower.

You may want to do a soft reboot of the phone.

What software are you using to connect - USBmodem or PDAnet? You need either one of these programs to make it work.

Yes, it is EVDO and not 1X
Yes, I am using the USB cable
Yes have done several, reboots/soft resets

Still no luck, 100kbps

I have EVDO speeds when connecting to internet using phone only
lower speed comes when computer is attached. I checked connection speeds using Sprint's Speed Test.

what I'm wondering is, did anyone else tether without using any hacks or additional software without being charged? There was one user that tried it, but I'm wondering if it worked for anyone else.

I stopped using pdanet and just use ICS now. No charges (haven't gotten my first bill, but nothing shows on my 'current usage' when checking online), haven't changed anything in the registry, and not using PAM, as I see absolutely no difference with it and occasionally it ask for user credentials.

Maybe they just look the other way to encourage retention. I only use it rarely when I an stuck for a wireless connection. I am still just using the trial version of PDANet as the version on PocketGear is earlier than the 1.80 beta.

I'm also using the trial version of pdanet. I don't want to spend the $40 to register it if ICS will let me tether for free. I guess I'll give it a try before my pdanet trial expires.

beware

Twice i had been using tethering, albiet i had changed settings under the msm and both times i had 67 data errors. Both times i had to spend some serious time on hold with sprint. And both times i had stumped the tech's and had to f-king hard reset and re provision my data.

im going to pay 19.99$ for usbmodem to never have to deal with calling sprint again.

thats what im using to type as i type/speak.

My worked right off the bat and with no additional hacks or changes. I'll just keep an eye on this thread to keep verifying no charges are coming through.

Does anyone know how to use the connection sharing over wifi?

I am using Pdanet (beta), no hacks and rarely have a problem hooking up. When I do get the error 67 as everyone decribes, I go to the com manager and turn on flight mode (it turns off the phone not the pc part) then back off and it wil let me get right back on. I do not know if I am getting nailed for the charges though.
