The title says it all. I spent over 4 hours trying to get PDANet and the built in Sprint Internet Connection app to work - to no avail. Five minutes with USBModem and I am not only online and tethering, but at BLAZING speeds. USBModem simply BLOWS PDANet out of the water. Anyone who is considering which one to go with should know PDANet is a world of trouble on this phone and USBModem works fine. Anyhow, just thought I would share as to spare some of you from many countless hours trying to figure out the on board utility or PDANet.
AND YES, USBMODEM bypasses the system where Sprint can see how much data you are downloading through tethering - so no big bill
Sorry for starting a new thread on this one!! I got excited!! Thanks moderators for moving my post into this existing thread!!
The d@mn USBModem bluescreened my xp-sp2 *twice* !!!!
This occurred while attempting to dial the newly setup connection in 'network connections'. The third time it simply said that the destination did not pick-up....

Anyway, when the plan is not activated (and regular Power Vision is) I can't tether at all - when it is activated the dialup #777 (or the router) works great. So I don't think Sprint allows "casual" tethering anymore on the phones that have a dual NAI system (unless it's a Samsung and the NAI can be disabled). - sheureka
I was able to tether w/o added software, simply using the internet sharing software. I was able to do it using the following *(already stated) instruction. Thanks!

DSLReports speed tests confirm the obvious - USB tethering is faster than BT [588 k/bps] v. [422 k/bps]. I'm sooooo happy!
That's all fine and dandy... but according to what's been stated already, sprint is charging for using the phone in this manner... NOT a good look. It makes very good sense that they would be, seeing that they know this application is already on the phone, and its not like the monitor technology isn't out there for the 6x00 series now..., not even new at this point. On to looking for other methods...

THIS WORKED! Now from what I understand, apps like PDAnet and USBModem NAT... or otherwise make it less obvious that there's a computer behind this 'Phone' connection. This seems like a sweet deal! .... I'm having problems now with Activesync... b/c it's seeing my phone at "Guest" now instead of Brandon6800... but I'll try to iron those out without bitching too much to you guys....

I cannot confirm 100% for sure, but at my work I cannot download this file; my work's corporate firewall has flagged it as infected with a virus.

Just a note, I was going through the registry on my phone, and I saw this entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\WModem\Multi-NAI
I set it to 0 (off) from 1 (default).
There's another curious entry: Check Profile in WModem. I'm aware that this phone uses multi-NAI and dual profiles (1 for the data on the phone, 1 for data on PAM). If I disable this Check Profile, would it help any with undetected tethering?
Has anyone tried this for a few days (without using USBmodem or PDAnet) and checked their bill out?

pdanet works well with usb as well as the internet sharing option on the phone.
Internet sharing on the phone with Bluetooth only works for a minute then disconnects, Pdanet does not work with bluetooth yet...
I can connect using the "Internet Sharing" on the 6800 with the following settings:
PC Commection: USB
Network Connection: Sprint PCS
But when I try to connect using the "Bluetooth PAN" PC Connection I can not get it to connect. It is most likly that I am doing something wrong. I changed my PC Connection to "Bluetooth PAN" and then press the "Connect" on the 6800. I go to my laptop Bluetooth Places (Windows XP SP2) and click on the "Network Access Point", but I receive an error on the laptop.
"The Network Access connection failed. No local Bluetooth device was detected"
If I click connect in ICS it would say registration failure, bad username blah blah.. but if I connect to evdo first on my phone and then click on connect in ICS it'd say checking USB connection, plug in a WinXP laptop and the laptop will get 192.1.0.x IP and the internet works!
I wonder if they're gonna charge me for this tho...
