Exclusive Details: UTStarcom HTC PPC-6800 and SMT-5800 Revealed

UTStarcom has revealed two devices from HTC that are aimed at U.S. CDMA carriers. Details are slowly emerging, however PCS Intel can independently confirm both devices have been finalized and are in-testing at both Verizon Wireless and Sprint.
The PPC-6800 (or XV6800 as Verizon will likely brand the device) is the CDMA counterpart to HTC's Hermes TyTN (aka Cingular 8525 in the United States). With EV-DO Rev A, and an improved camera, the PPC-6800 includes a refined design that removes many complaints from the PPC-6700. The keypad and controls are similar to the PPC-6700's predecesor, the PPC-6600.
IMHO, this is way too soon for a 6700 replacement to come out, if this is so. The 6700 hasn't even been in consumer channels for an entire year. How long was it between the 6600 and the 6700?

According to some reports, the End of Life for the 6700 is this Oct.
Just because the 6800 is in testing still doesn't mean we'll see it within the year. I remember when the mm5600 was being "tested" for months and months. I think they leak the info to get all us "horses" wriled up at he gate. smart marketing.

You're right but also we need to take into consideration how QUICK sprint pushed the 6700 to the market... So really anything is possible
That's not a smartphone screen on it, are we sure it's not the PPC phone we've all been dreaming about? I was under the impression based on some news I was reading that it was full WM5...
The PCS Intel confirmed that even though the screenshot on the phone is WM, the OS is Smartphone.

Update: Confusion amongst readers has streamed in, in regards to the SMT-5800. The images on the device do indeed show the device running Windows Mobile Phone Edition. However, the SMT class in Audiovox/UTStarcom nomenclature only refers to Windows Mobile Smartphone devices. As such, it does appear to run Windows Mobile Smartphone edition, as does its GSM counterpart, HTC Breeze.

Leaking pics of the 6800 will kill sales of the 6700. Really, who is gonna buy the 6700 now with the 6800 right arround the corner? Not very good marketing IMO. Palm learned this lesson with the m505 fiasco.
And the Libra is not a PPC PE. It is almost certainly a smartphone according to the rumors. The screenshot in the pic is the work of an inept marketing team.
Man this sucks being I just bought my xv6700 !!!! ROFL.. I most likely will have to get the 6800 if the upgrade is really improved. I'm praying for a brighter screen and more memory. If I keep my 6700 instead of trying to sell it on for back up how long does Verizon let you activate the ESN's on older phones ?
^^ maybe it wont even have a memory card! maybe we will have to buy proprietary memory blocks direct from Sprint! What is so bad about SD? These phones are big enough to take SD, for regular phones sure microSD makes sense, but not a PDAphone.
also:
For those who want the 6800 now, bear in mind that sprint does not have a Rev A network yet. It will be several months before you will see even limited Rev A coverage.
