I have been waiting to upgrade my cell phone to a pda phone that has been available elsewhere in the world (Europe) since March 2007. In May 2007, our contract with Verizon expired and, not wanting to be without service, my wife signed a new contract for 2 more years. At the time, the phone - the Verizon 6800, was due to be released to the US public in June.
In June, another CDMA carrier (Sprint) did release the phone. According to reports, the phone and service have worked nearly perfectly.
It is now late September and the phone still has not been released for Verizon customers. What's worse, the proposed release date is now pushed back indefinately. But because we have a new contract, I am stuck and unable to use the phone of my choice.
It is absolutely ludicrous that the American public is subjected to this type of service. What is worse, when the phones are finally released to the US public, they are often "neutered", removing features that European customers enjoy.
Please put an end to this type of business practice.
It's a flash production with 4 phones 'greyed' and a 4 day count down. The poster referred to the 700w release getting similar pub and the 6700 being released the same day. I can't remember the pub when the 700w was released but mine is on it's last legs and VZW needs to get off of their butts and release new phones!
At any rate, I'll keep checking the B2B site tonight and post any updates I find.

The silhouettes are either artistic renditions of “non-phones”, or they are placeholders only. While one looks very much like the BB Pearl, none of the others look like either the i760 or the 6800.

I have been following this page for quite some time now and want to tell our story.
I live near the Albany,NY area, little south to be exact. Our company (small about 8 employees, 10 phones) were wanting new phone. Basically we are in IT and our techs (myself included) had been running on the Verizon network with Treo 650's and Treo700p's.
We had been waiting on this phone to be released from Verizon since June when our B2B rep told us it was due out on July 15th. Then, as time came close it was pushed to august then sept and then we were being told nothing.
So here came sprint who we contacted wondering about pricing and such. The beat Verizon's price, with data, company wide minute sharing and all of our data plans.
We eventually decided to switch providers mainly because Verizon could not provide our 5 techs with phones that they needed in the field. On top of that they lost the sales and monthly revenue of the other 5 non PDA phones and one data card.
Not sure if Verizon just doesn't care or what.
Now for the update. This happened 4 days ago. The sprint network seems just as fast in my location on the EVDO but we are seeing some network issues in areas where Verizon use to be good in. However we do see some areas in which we get better signal from the Sprint network then we did with Verizon. It is too early for me to conclude if we made the right choice but I hope Verizon would learn from this.
On the note of the phone. It is a nice piece of equipment, fun to tweak.
I wish people luck who cannot switch away to get this phone. We were patient with Verizon but with no release of NO phones we had no choice.
i was talking to a VW tech today. She said she hasn't even heard of the xv6800. She also said before a release they need to be trained on the new model so they will be able to do their job in customer support, and training is usually 2 weeks. So basically you can get from this that we wont see they xv6800 for atleast 2 more weeks from today. ofcourse thats moving at the fastest pace which no1 should expect.
My 1st post on this site sugessted that vw wont get the xv6800. and i know its on the ppc6800 battery etc blah blah blah. but i really believe now that vw is not getting the 6800. how can there be no mention and NO leaks.. Every company on this planet has an employee that leaks info ppl are dying to know. how many employees does vw have? several thousand? and none of them are leaking real info? sure this whole thread is supposedly filled with post from ppl acting like they know some1 that gave them some scoop. but as we all have seen from time... it was all bull.
I want to see the xv6800 or something better from vw and really soon. but this NETWORK has a lead a$$, im no longer waiting with excitement.
I was in a store that has a verizon Kiosk and the rep there showed me a dummy XV6800 that verizon just sent them to play with. She said the 6800 will be out this month.
"but as we all have seen from time... it was all bull."
So...I guess by that logic we shouldn't give your post any more creedence than any of the others without concrete facts. I think they will have to release some kind of updated PC phone fairly soon (Smartphones don't count). They must have spent too much testing and customizing it by now to just bail out. Verizon employees and resellers obviously don't know jack, so I wouldn't believe any of them at this point. I'm just waiting for someone here to post that it's out. Otherwise this thread has become useless.
Haha its never coming out, I waited forever and gave up. I made the switch to Sprint and am VERY VERY satisfied. EV speeds are excellent, coverage is excellent, voice quality has been fantastic. The XV6800 is so much nicer than the XV6600 it replaced. Its 75% the size, it quickly displays who is calling if the information is in the contacts where as the XV6600 would only display this info half the time and would only display a name. WM6 is much improved including the IE browser. The landscape mode and larger keyboard are excellent. Battery life has been fantastic. I bought the Sprint Mogule 6800 HTC USB Battery Twin Desktop Cradle on Ebay for $26, it works great. I also bought the Battery+Car+Travel Charger set for $13 on ebay as well.
$399 minus $100 sprint rebate - $75 sprint/kellogg rebate really makes the price affordable. $30/month for what Verizon charged me $80/month allows me to save $50/month x 24 months = $1200 over the 2 year period!! At that rate I have extra cash to upgrade the phone EVERY YEAR!!
I was initially scared to leave Verizon's great coverage, but so far Sprint has done an excellent job, they have improved greatly. I was once a Sprint customer way back in the days when PCS first came out and it was crap but they are ahead of the EVDO game right now and coverage is great.

You might want to return your Mogul under Sprint's warranty for another one that has a working calculator program. The calculator on my Mogul, for which I left Verizon after a couple of decades in order to get the SERO plan, says that 24 times 50 is $1,200 of savings over the 2 year period. And I bought the Mogul for $288 less the rebates.
People on the i760 thread are writing to mike.lanman@verizonwireless.com, the vp of marketing at VZW to compain about the situation. Feel free to pile on. This may be the only way he will get the message since his staff may be filtering everything.

"well the big announcement was made.. FOUR new hot phones from VW. but not one of them is the xv6800."
That's conclusive evidence that the 6800 is not being released?
All it proves is it's not ready to be released with these other phones, or they are not confident enough in setting a release date as part of this announcement, or it's just not exciting enough. I guess we've got a little longer to wait, but they will have to replace the 6700 at some point. It would be insane not to. I see people with these phones all the time, it's a decent chunk of the market.
BTW, here's a fairly recent photo of the "nonexistant" xv6800 powered up, so I say it's coming.
Well I talked to two credible sources in Verizon today. One (a b2b rep) told me that Verizon still expects to release the XV6800 in the fourth quarter, but she didn't really have much additional info. The other source, told me that Verizon had two internally "confirmed" release dates of Oct 1 and Oct 8. He also said that they've pushed back the Oct. 8th date, and he's gotten no further information. He knows that stores in the areas have been have seen the demo on the phone, but most haven't been trained. It's not on the "upcoming releases," and wouldn't expect to see it at least for another 2 weeks, although he thought November was a more likely timeframe.
Again, all rumors, but I think it's pretty safe to say we won't see the 6800 on Oct. 15th, although I really hope we do.
That being said, I do have my hands on one for now. I've uploaded a bunch of pics I took tonight, just to try and keep everyone's spirits high.
