Does anyone think that ONE of the reasons VZW is so late releasing the phone is that they are adding network functionality to the 6800 . . .
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. Sorry, sorry, don't mean to rain on anyone's parade or burst anybody's bubble. I'm just super-cynical (or super-serial?) by this point about all this. One would hope more time means more features. But I doubt it.
. . . remembering the good old days, just a couple of years ago, when techs worked night and day prior to the XV6600 release, dedicated to making sure it was released as fast as possible . . . with its Wifi CRIPPLED. Oh wait, things haven't changed that much.
I'm actually getting significantly faster data speeds on my Sprint 6800 than I was on my xv6600. (Both with "broadband" signals.)
Very glad I jumped to Sprint to get a Mogul instead of waiting for Verizon execs to finish playing with the lint in their navels.
Yeah, you know, I did the dsl reports mspeed test from the sprint store today with a Mogul vs my xv6700... I got 650ish on the Mogul, 150ish on my xv6700... Verizon keeps giving me reasons to jump ship.
I just don't think anything will change because I post on a company forum. All these people listen to are dollar signs or lawsuits, and they will screw us and give us as little for our money as they possibly can without losing customers or breaking the law. You see it everywhere these days, and even calling and screaming at service reps does nothing until the day you make the call to cancel your service. Then all kinds of deals and discounts come out of nowhere. Until then they'll just maintain the status quo, taking your money each month while offering increasingly less in exchange.
If you wanted to start a class action against VZ and Sprint, I'd be ready to sign up. But I just don't believe online petitions ever create significant results.
Does anyone think that ONE of the reasons VZW is so late releasing the phone is that they are adding network functionality to the 6800 (e.g., dual-band for overseas calls) or awaiting an HTC update (like the camera and new software was when the 6600 was first introduced)?
Changing the XV6800 radio to dual band would require the modified phone to be resubmitted to the FCC for approval. That would set us back at least another 6-12 months.
The ugly reality is that HTC said at the end of July that the XV6800 would not be shipped to VZW until sometime in August or more likely September. The phones then have to go through customs, get to distribution centers, go out to stores...nothing generally happens as fast in a supply chain as one would like.
Verizon Wireless announced its expanded national test lab, which ensures that every handset used on the company's network "meets the highest standard of reliability." The lab has been up and running since 1987, but the company recently updated the facility and quadrupled the facility's size. The facility houses a 37-member Verizon Wireless test lab team.
An interesting passage from the release: "Many test rooms resemble fortified vaults and are lined with metal screening to shield devices from external live radio waves, keeping unwanted signals out and test signals in. A life-like test mannequin head and torso, known as 'Mr. Head,' sits in a soundproof booth and is outfitted with $5,000 ears that funnel sound just like human ears to test handset microphone volume and clarity."

The xv6700 uses EV-DO and the xv6800 is equipped with EV-DO RevA.
It SHOULD be faster by design. I'd love to be able to test one myself, but Verizon hasn't friggin' released it yet!
(What did we gripe about before PDA/Cellphones? I can't remember...)

Gotta laugh, they talked about phone quality and reliability and the best possible use experience over and over in that article. How can they not know their GUI sucks?

Sprint hasn't rolled out Rev A. yet and there hasn't been a Rev A. update for the phone either. Regular EVDO speeds SHOULD be around 600-800k but for some reason Verizon's speeds, at least in my area have tanked lately.

hehe minor correction, Sprint have rolled out Rev A for their network, however the Mogul do not yet have the new ROM to enable Rev A on the phone.
Overall I still think Rev 0 6800 have faster download than Rev 0 6700

Ahh true enough... but it's not just the phones... I have aircards from both providers and while the Verizon card used to be consistantly 25-50% faster... now Sprints Air card is consistently 50-100% faster. Something strange is afoot at the circle k... or the big red V for that matter.

I live in the Birmingham area and Rev A has been out for over 2 months here, just no 6800 to play on it with...

sorry to de-rail this thread even further. but I am going crazy here.
My 6700 has a cracked screen, since mid july. I have been waiting on the new 6800.. and until then I have been carrying this brick that only functions to receive calls and use the voice command to make calls.
I am really liking the HTC tilt, and also the non-keyboard one they are going to release for ATT. I looked online, and it looks like if I go with the mass bundle (phone, dsl, dircttv, and wirless), I will save about 60 bucks a month.
downside? I will lose some minutes.. and my family all has verizon, so they will no longer be freee calls.
Any problems with att wireless that I should know, other than coverage?
I know their internet seppd for the phones are not that great... but I never get a data plan anyway as I use wifi hotspots everywhere...
I am really looking at making the switch... why not go?
I have both at&t and VZW. There is a difference, but at&t is getting so much better so quickly, iti s no longer valid to advise anyone not to move to them. But, if you are going to do that, I would wait until the HTC Kaiser (at&t Tilt) comes out in a couple of weeks. It will not get much better than that phone for a long time. In contrast, the 8600 will look like last year's phone.

AT&T has a new bundle out that allows you to bundle only the DSL (768 @$9.95 or 1.5 @19.95) with your AT&T wireless, no landline or DirectTV required. Should save some serious money. Apparently it is part of some agreement with the government made a couple of years ago. I do not use AT&T for wireline, wireless, DSL or DirectTV, so I cannot tell you how well any of them work. Best of luck.

Keep in mind that the in store phones are likely connected to in store wifi to make it seem faster... And in my area is get between 500-1100 Kbps from that speed test through my Verizon 6700.

I made sure I did the test with wifi disabled. When I'm down in Orange County I still get a good 600-900, but up in LA my speed has been tanking lately.
