I can't believe they're giving the i760 128flash/64ram. That makes about as much sense as the 7.1MP camera I just ordered coming with a 16MB SD Card???
Though more memory would be useful, I don't think it's required for the base OS (WM5 or Crossbow) and a couple of apps, so it's not surprising that they won't add more just to keep the costs down as much as possible. Only 'power users' (music, video, very large contact lists, database, gps, etc...) really need much more than that for what would be considered basic PDA functions.

You do not need to be power user to max out the onboard memory on these devices. Music, video, contact lists, etc can easily be stored on an sd card, but many applications do not run properly if not installed in the onboard memory (i.e. Adobe Acrobat Reader). Obviously these devices are not meant to be expandable, and their minimization of onboard memory is simply a way to make you buy a new device every couple years. Maybe PC manufacturers should start working with this principle, that would be interesting.
PS - it seems as if your definition of "power user" would describe people that actually need a device like this (i.e. IT professionals, executives, etc) and therefore find large contact lists, databases, gps, Acrobat, etc as a necessity.
"...but many applications do not run properly if not installed in the onboard memory..."
"Need" is not the same as "buy". My point was that many people that buy these devices will never do half the things with thier devices that members of boards like this discuss, may never install any 3rd party apps, and will be perfectly happy with them 'out-of-the-box' just accessing thier email, calendar, managing a couple hundred contacts, and surfing a few web sites.
Manufactures are going to cater to the least common denominator. To correlate with your PC example, go to your local Best Buy and look at the PC offerings. You'll find lots of PCs in the $500-1000 range, but I doubt you'd see anythng comparable to a high-end graphics workstation or gaming rig, which are niche products and can cost more than $5k. The typical consumer won't see the value in it and won't buy it. If there were 2 otherwise identical PPC phones, one w/ 128MB memory, and one w/ 2GB, and there was a $150 price difference, the typical consumer would probably buy the cheaper one as long as it met thier needs. Though it would be nice to have the option to choose, the manufactures figure that by giving us expandable memory, they are giving us the option to have more memory if we need it while keeping the cost of thier devices down. For the most part, this works out - some of us have 512MB cards in our devices, and some of us have 4GB, based on our individual needs. And though I agree that many apps run better in main memory, I also believe that's a function of the hardware and OS that should be addressed by the manufacturers and MS (or other OS developlers) in future devices and OS releases and will become less of an issue as time goes by.
Holy crap, it's a Christmas miracle! Look what Santa Roc A Fella dropped in our laps this morning: shots of the CDMA HTC TyTn, courtesy of our new pal HTC Kid! About freaking time. Here we have UTStarcom XV6800 on Verizon, and this thing is seriously no slouch. It improves on the Hermes with more memory, Bluetooth 2, and, of course, features EV-DO with Rev A support. Here's the dirt:
1xEVDO (upgradeable to Rev A)
Supports VZW E-Mail
WM5 AKU 3
256MB flash / 96MB RAM
Thumb wheel
802.11b/g
Bluetooth 2.0
BBAC -- BroadbandAccess Connect, i.e. tetherable EV-DO
2 MP Camera 2 megapixel camera
microSD slot
We hear Roc's got more coming soon, watch out for it. Big ups to HTC Kid!
We'll say upfront that these photos have been 'shopped to protect the innocent,
but don't let that fact turn you off; given what we know and what we've seen,
we've every reason to believe this thing is the real deal. This is, of course,
the Titan -- the long-overdue successor to the Apache -- coming to the table
with goodies like Rev. A-upgradeable EV-DO, 256MB of internal storage,
Bluetooth 2.0, and a 2 megapixel cam. Expect it to rock out on Verizon
as the XV8600 and Sprint this May as the PPC 6800. Get your fix of shots
from every angle after the break.

The actual start of life for the ppc 6800 with Sprint will be April which usually means it can only be ordered from sprint directly. The stores usually wont start recieving it until a month later and probably around mid February or start of March is when we will start seeing some official information out by Sprint.
i wonder how much better the 6800 is going to be then the 6700..

Supposedly May for Sprint, but we'll see. Not too sure about the source, or their source for that matter. It'll be interesting to see whether it is a simultaneous release or if Sprint has exclusivity. Sprint had exclusivity on the 6700 for 3 months, just as VZ had exclusivity on the 700w for 3 months.
That looks like the Hermes and not the Titan pics we have seen on the web. I bet they posted this just to get a jump on it before the product was released.
wow, that phone is nice looking.. first real pics i seen of the 6800

Wasn't sure what to make of it. I just saw 6800 and got excited. Is there a list or thread that explains all of the names of the phones as they can be really confusing sometimes.
No WM 6 though Does anyone know if a similar device is on the horizon with WM 6 (Crossbow)? I heard a rumor that LG will have a similar device with WM 6 out soon.
