Any chance the 6800 will have WM6 being that the OS was released a couple weeks ago? I believe there is only 1 device currently *known* to be launching this month that has the new OS. I'd like to think it would being that it's 4 months away but then again it's GSM counterpart (the 8525) is WM5, although a WM6 upgrade may be offered. For all of us who plan on buying Office 2007 & Vista, we will be able to take advantage of some of the new features of WM6...
since the GSM already has WM5, dont expect it on the 6800. The would be more work for them to do. Also I wouldnt expect any 'upgrade' to ever be available.
Im just going by the past record...seeing as I own a Sprint 6600

Well, considering the 8525 has now been released, I am hoping the 6800 is announced to be in testing soon. Or maybe even put into the hands of a few people. If not, I am thinking I might just go ahead and pick up the 8525 instead.
I doubt it, it was almost a year between the Blue Angel and Harrier, or atleast 8 months.
I went a got an 8125, my first time using GSM instead of CDMA, it sucked! I bought it on a Friday and returned it Monday. The phone was fantastic but the internet speed, static, dropped calls, and atleast in my area the coverage was worse than CDMA. Trust me, just wait for the 6800.
As for the upgrade to WM6 after the release of the 6800, I'm going to remain hopeful. Remember, the transition from WM2003SE to WM5 was also a change in hardware in terms of the RAM/ROM. Although WM5 can be run on a WM2003SE device, it required much more than just flashing which is why it was never offered to the public. Going from WM5 to WM6 will not and will be as simple and a standard software update. Also, knowing US Starcomm, Verizon, Sprint, and countless other CDMA carriers world wide will also be carrying the phone later next year, I'd almost be sure that there will be a WM6 upgrade offered by one of the carrier, usually US Starcomm and Verizon because Sprint doesn't give a **** about it's customers.
Well, to be honest with you 92GTA, I am unsure as to how the Cingular network is out here. Im in Phoenix Metro and my company uses CDMA, both Verizon and Sprint, but not GSM. I know of a person with TMobile who is unhappy but I just don't have any experience on that side.
As far as download speeds the 8525 is using the new Cingular 3G network, and in testing comparisons with a Verizon 6700, I saw a reviewstating the 3G was getting consistent speeds in the 900-1k range, which would be better than EVDO but once again wholly dependant on the network.
I guess I will wait and see, and look around for Cingular customers in my area.
oh well, i wont be getting it anyway. Finally looked at it on Cingular's site and saw it has the small screen, like the 6700. Funny thing is they call it a Large 2.8" screen. Screw that, I like my 6600's 3.5 inch screen. I'll keep it till it dies at this point, stupid small screens.

If the 6800 has a screen the size of the 6600(3.5") that would make it really worth while, but no specs yet, not even from PDAdb.net. They do have the Hermes, but that is getting to be rather standard bleeding edge news.
assuming the last two are the gsm version of the 6800, not a lotta changes - the clocking for cpu on all 4 is 400 mhz - and the hermes has the same screen size and resolution of the 6700 - i hope the 6800 has more innovation than the hermes seems to have - my car mount dropped my 6600 and i can no longer recharge it - (can i have it repaired?) - so its decision time for me - wait and hope or replace the 6600
I've got no plans to upgrade. You can bet that you will need to pay extra to tether with the 6800, and Rev. A will not be the revolution Rev. 0 was.
That would be a deal stopper for me, the 6700 is mighty close to ideal, a better cammera and rev a would be nice but if I can't tether they can keep the POS.
What I want to know is how when it will be released. Q1? I'm up for a renewal on Monday and I'm guessing it wouldnt be wise to invest in a new phone if the new 6800 is coming out soon.

If the 6700 can be tethered, I'm pretty sure the 6800 will be able to as well. The OP seemed to be upset that he would have to pay additional to tether, not that he couldn't tether.

There is no word on a release date, but all signs (i.e. the PPC-6700 has already been EOL'ed ) and rumors are pointing to Q1 this next year.

Well, the 6600 was over $600 at launch; I don't know what the 6700 went for at launch. I suspect it'll be less than the i830, as that is a specialized device.

My bro has the 8525 (cingular Hermes model HERM100) and I can confirm that the Samsung Processor and most importantly ATI Imageron GPU are a significant performance improvement over the PPC-6700's Intel Processor/no GPU. SlingPlayer mobile performance is much more fluid (like a real TV picture) where the 6700's stutters even over wifi. The HERM100 is a terrific device and since the TyTN (HERM200) has similar guts I would expect the PPC-6800 (HERM300?) to follow suit. It would be great if it had the rumored 3.2" screen (spymongoose on Shadowmite's blog--since challenged strongly/discredited) or the coveted 3.5" VGA display but if the 6800 performs like the 8525 I can assure you it won't be a marginal upgrade. Now I just wonder if it'll have AKU3 as the cingular Hermes is shipping with 2.3... Inquiring minds want to know.
