bleh, if laptop testering cant be done 'under the nose' like it can be with my 6600, then my 6600 will see another year of usage.....assuming the down button doesnt finally decide to quit. But then again, I'll keep the phone if thats the only problem.

If the 6800 has a screen the size of the 6600(3.5") that would make it really worth while, but no specs yet, not even from PDAdb.net. They do have the Hermes, but that is getting to be rather standard bleeding edge news.
Does anyone know when the successor to the XV6700 will be out? I've already seen some news reports and photos of what's purported to be the XV6800. The life of my XV6600 has almost come to an end and I need to replace it but I really want to wait for the XV6800. It would be great to know how long the wait might be... Within a couple of months will be ideal
I consider these phones to be comparable the the rev B of cars that come out 6 months after the original.
Things that should have changed on the 6800 -
1. Should be about half the thickness - anything over 15mm is WAY too thick
considering others have FULL PPC 2005 phones that are 13.5 mm thick. I'm not talking about smartphones, I'm talking about full PPC 2005 phones.
2. A new type of BT - not just BT 2.0 but another type of BT adapter as the ones they used for the 6600 was crap and they continued with a newer but just as useless one in the 6700. Yeah, I realize the 6700 went to BT 1.2 - doesn't mean it doesn't snap, crackle and pop if you move the BT unit more than a couple of feet from the phone - should work clear as a bell in your hand, in your pocket (I'm wearing dockers, not lead plated lab tech pants). If your earpiece is on the other side of your body from your phone...
3. The screen should be VGA - can't really browse the web with anything less than VGA.
4. The light should be 30% brighter - while the camera is pretty much a joke in any camera (oh yes, I'm sure it is improved) the flashlight function is the best. LED technology has improved significantly in the last 2 years. If I'm forced to put up with the bulk of the camera -might as well give it a feature worth the annoyance. I have a 7 year old digital camera - it takes pictures - phone cameras take something comparable to an artist's quick sketch renditions.
5. MORE MEMORY - I can't sync my phone without eliminating half the files I want to sync and I certainly can't install half the apps I want without using the card.
6. Improve the card access speed - if I take the card out of the phone and into a card reader, I get about 10 x the speed.
7. Change to a simple black plastic or a real aluminum case, the paint job is about as good as old lead based paints (hmmm I wonder...).
8. Improve the battery life - must have a major improvement in this!
These are just some of the things I'd require of my next phone if they want me to jump ship before the next version of WM comes out. Fortunately this isn't really a phone I'd jump to as I'd be bummin if I replaced my phone in January with this model and then again in November with the new 6900 Crossbow model. I sure as hell hope HTC fixes all of the items listed here before releasing a 6900 model. I can't believe they are selling the 6700 again with a 6800 label. Then again car manufacturers do this 2005 vs 2006 model honda. Let's just hope it isn't 7 years before HTC does a new design.
Really love my 6600, and think the 6700 is crap. Hate the tiny screen, hate the side slide. If I had to change anything about the 6600, I would just trim it down (without touching the screen size or buttons), add Windows 5.0, add a faster processor, and include a reliable way of locking the device, and auto relock it after a call or alert rings. (The G-1000's way was ok). Other than that, the 6600 is far superior than anything out there. I'm not that excited about the 6800.
While I know many are attached to the nice big screen of the 6600, I doubt it will ever come back. The majority of people (including me) would much rather the compactness of the 6700 rather than a larger screen. I would definitely not buy a phone as big as the 6600. Just my opinion though.
