Absolutely asinine. They could have released it now with WM5/Rev0 and official assurance it would be upgradable. If OTA upgrades aren't feasible they could be done via download from Sprint or in stores. Then they could have re-launched for the holidays with WM6/RevA on board.
Wait until next week to know for sure. This is apparently unconfirmed and started by a poster at Sprintusers.com. I wouldn't jump ship if this is the phone you really want until it is confirmed next week.

Take this report with a grain of salt. It's unfounded. It's a rumor (that may or may not be true) that was started on sprintusers.com. Nobody can verify it. Call your Sprint rep and they will tell you that it is on target for a "Mid May release".
I guess we will all know next week. If this is true, it will be most unfortunate. The device, as great as it is, is already bordering on "old" technology (expecially without WiMo 6 and Rev A). Why is it that US carriers generally can't get it together with WiMo Phones/PDA's? You have to go to Europe to get the good stuff.

Too be honest the only way Sprint would think of delaying the 6800 until october is if they put the 6700 back on the shelves... If you want a PPC from sprint in Buffalo New York, right now the only way you can get it is over the internet.... They don't have them on any shelf (not to mention a 6600). So If this October garbage is true, sprint is removing it's self from the PPC market for 6 months just because it doesn't want to do an update??? kinda stupid and anyone w/ an MBA, B.S. B.A. or highschool education would agree with me in saying that Sprint will be loosing part of it's customer base to competitors.
My PPC6600 hard resets a number of times a week now no matter what I do. I want a new phone, sprint can't help me in the stores like normal (swap out) because they don't offer PPC's anymore for the next 6 months. Just plain stupid and it's so stupid that it must be a rumor and something someone just made up to get attention.

I agree October makes no sense -- particularly with the current Verizon rumor date being June 30.
As to your 6600, mine was hard resetting too. It had gotten to the point where if I made or recieved a phone call with less than 95% battery it would reset. I just bought a new battery and that seems to have done the trick.
I will have another month or so on top of the release before my company will complete its testing of the 6800, so at least I can survive until it comes out. It will be better for me to jump to Verizon, as I already have a Sprint AirCard and this would give me better odds at having High Speed internet on my laptop.
I lost a lot of interest in the 6800 when the iMates Ultimates were anounced. The 6800 is just not going to get me to plop down a big wad of cash even though I want a better phone than my 6700. I was getting ready to make the jump from Sprint in June when my online sprint account said my contract would expire. They moved to a new billing system and now I'm told my contract expires in January!! Just one more nail in the lid for Sprint as far as I'm concerned.
Gary Forsee - keep investing in technology for nascar mouthbreathers - don't worry about your business clients.
Apparently Telus has plans for U.S. and Canada, so if you are in the U.S. and really want the 6800/p4000 you can get it from Telus. Granted, their prices are just plain dumb...

I could easily see this phone being delayed especially if the decision was made to add WM6 and Rev A. Conisdering the Verizon spec sheets were showing both perhaps Sprint wanted to make sure their phone competed, especially since it doesn't seem sprint will be getting the I760 either. It would suck for Sprint to release the 6800 in May only to have Verizon launch a better version a month later.
Also that solves sprints upgrading problems that are bound to crop up if they did ever allow a WM6 / Rev A upgrade.
We'll find out soon enough. With it being less than 2 weeks from supposed release its pretty quiet on rumor lane I wouldn't hold my breathe I don't think we'll see the 6800 in May.
Well my friends, I have spoken directly to my company's sprint/nextel rep that gives us all of our discounts. I told him about my troubles w/ the 6600 and that no stores around me has a 6600 or 6700 and that all the stores told me to sit tight and wait for the 6800. He said that yesterday he went to a WM6 meeting and that they are VERY excited about getting out the 6800 asap WITH rev-a and WM6... So the launch date for Sprint will be October. He stressed their frustration w/ the lack of PPC until that point but due to a technology issue w/ the vendor, they don't know if they will be able to do the over the air upgrade for the 6800 if they release now. It was scheduled to be released next week w/ rev-0 WM5.
He said he is going to help me out a bit and find a 6700 for me until the 6800 comes out...

You do realize the danger you put youself in as the messenger of such unbearable confirmation (all be it from a Sprint Rep, which may not be saying much), don't you!?!
Now for me to go find a private corner and come to grips with the reality of what next week may very well confirm.....

You think you've got problems, I just fell in the swimming pool yesterday with my 6600 in my pocket... if this is true, I'm going to be up the creek (or should I say up the pool)... without a paddle.

Yeah no I-mates out yet... no 6800.... my 6600 is terminally ill, and a small chance of getting a 6700 swap out (I'm pro 6600 so that's still a bad thing for me).... woa is me... woa is me...

im sorry , what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just sold my 6700 yesterday, now your telling me that it will not be out until october.
two words!!! BEEP That!!!!!! I am so mad right now. I was bluffing with sprint until now , I am done!! This is just not exceptable. ARE YOU 100% SURE...

I don't think anyone is 100% sure. I'm very relieved that I got Sprint to give me back my June 2007 contract expiration - they jacked it till January and then CS said May of 2008 until I called retentions and finally they admitted they had no valid reason for the extention. I'm free in June so at least I'll be able to decide without the $200 ETF.
I've heard May, July and October - I don't think we'll know for sure until they are in stock. Hopefully the Imate's will be out before July so I can make a good decision without a lot of unnecessary concerns to cloud the issue.
no one is 100% sure except the CEO at sprint but it looks like the phone wont be out until later this year. at the very least it wont be in MAY. again, as i stated a while ago, this is classic sprint. they have pushed back release dates on ALL of their converged phones starting with the i300 (man that was a nice phone! back in the day). sometimes ignorance is bliss and sometimes knowledge can hurt...
That would be a real surprise. I was thinking it would be out in May and then I would wait until Sep or so to see how everybody liked it and maybe the price would be down. My contract is up in October (I started a new one with our 6700's)
To be honest I had hoped that with Apples and Imates phones coming out that they would have scrapped the 6800 and would go back and add a higher res screen and more memory etc.. but that stinks all this wait and no improvements? It just seems that it will really look outdated before it comes out.
