the FCC confidentiality ends on 4-19-07. That releases pretty much every doc and photo they have on the 6800. I can only image that the carriers want the finished product out by then instead of people rummaging around in user manual revision files to see the goods.
EDIT: made URL smaller due to its lenght. (marctronixx)
Even though the date available says April 19, that might not be the case. In doing research on the i760 and how we can remove their short-term confidentiality see here:
we have found out lots more information on the short-term confidentiality. First the OEM has the ability to request a 45 day privacy block, which is what HTC did here. And then they have the ability to request that again towards the end of the 45 day privacy, and then again, up to 180 days. So even though they say it might be available, it most likely won't since they will probably request two more 45 day blocks of short term confidentiality.
So even though it "might" be available on April 19, don't expect it, you might see the date change to around the first of June, and then again to around the middle of July. So you might not even see the rest of the stuff till the middle of July, depending on if they request the confidentiality, or Market the device, or release it, both of which remove the short-term confidentiality.
This is why we are getting ready to "notify" the FCC of the marketing activity that the SCH-i760 has been doing, in the hopes of removing the short-term confidentiality, and that fact that Samsung incorrectly requested confidentiality in requesting the full 180 days at once, instead of 45 days at a short with a request update each time till the full 180 days have been reached.
Just wanted to give you that info, so you weren't upset when April 19 comes, and the date is extended...

Things aren't exactly looking good for a release anytime too soon. I was holding out hope it might show up towards the end of this month, but this looks like yet another step in the wrong direction.

Like I said in my previous post, "you might see the date change to around the first of June".
There will be another request (the last they can make) around that time, that will extend it to the middle of July, provided the device isn't out or marketed...

You hit the nail on the head, MR. It's just getting harder and harder to stay excited about this device. And since I'll need a PDA before the start of July, this whole situation (it and the i760) is getting worse and worse.

Like I said before I don't have a PDAPhone and was looking to wait for the 6800 release. However, I don't think the upgrades (and some downgrades ) seem to be worth the wait until the middle of the summer, well to me at least. So it looks like when I'm up for the new phone next month I'll be going with the 6700, barring some sort of "miracle" from the phone police.

This also goes closely along with most rumors for the Sprint release. I really think that VZ wanted to get the jump on Sprint on this one and raised their bar far to high with a Feb release. Sprint was rumored since the end of last year to be a June-ish release. So if it goes into mid July then they are only off by a 2-6 weeks.

I'm still holding out hope that this roadmap that was leaked back in January will still hold up. As far as I know, everything listed on here has come out on time or even early in a couple cases, so maybe May isn't out of the question for Sprint. And if VZW is looking to beat them to the punch, well even better.
This thing's been pretty accurate for everything from M1 to the Q to the "Flipper" Ultra Music phone and "rugged" 7050. I usually don't follow data cards too closely, so I don't know if those have been announced yet, but the recent news of the Treo 755 coming soon (which I think is the "Sherlock") makes it seem like this thing is miraculously still on track.
Maybe somebody else can help me out with the status of the models listed on here. Like I said, as far as I know, this thing has been pretty darn accurate, so if somebody can find where it's missed the mark, let us know.
Until then, I'm sticking with this thing until May is over.
UTStarcom & HTC - PPC-6800, SMT-5800

One point of misinformation that has persisted is in regards to HTC and UTStarcom. Despite reports falsely scooped by other phone information sites, HTC and UTStarcom are continuing and furthering their relations in the Untied States. PhoneNews.com directly confirmed with both UTStarcom and HTC that they will continue to work together in shipping HTC CDMA devices in the United States.
PhoneNews.com has also learned the reason for the delay of the PPC-6800 and SMT-5800. HTC this week released these devices abroad (in Canada on Telus) lacking EV-DO Rev A. HTC will later software update these devices to support EV-DO Rev A.
Sprint and Verizon however have chosen to wait for EV-DO Rev A to be integrated into HTC's next wave of devices. Once that has been completed, they will ship. It is also possible that this delay will ensure Windows Mobile 6 ships on both devices. While the SMT-5800 cannot be confirmed, but both carriers are fully locked on to releasing the PPC-6800.
However, because of this delay, only the Telus-branded version (the P4000) was available for show. Specifics such as if the HTC brand will be stamped on the UTStarcom-sold devices remains to be seen.
Well, enough is enough for me...
May 15th does sound pretty official- at least for Sprint- but who knows what that actually means.
After over 10 years with Verizon and its affiliates- I have officially jumped ship to Cingular and the 8525... I should have done this MONTHS AGO: this thing is GREAT!
But hopefully murphy's law of "The thing i waited for so long to come out will probably come out a few days after I give up on it" - will exist- and everyone else waiting for the 6800 will be in luck.
I hope to see it soon either way- but enough is enough for me.
So long 6600- we had good times.
I've been going through this thread kinda fast so i don't know if anyone has confirmed this yet, I didn't see anything on it. Im a indirect dealer for sprint and what I do know about the 6800 is that it is going to be released 5/14/07, when it is released it WILL launch as EVDO-REV 0, BUT it will be EVDO-REV A compatible and will be able to support REV A in a software update that will be released later.
This was confirmed on the 3 month handset report released from sprint.
Here is a quote from the email I received
"Updated 3-month handset inventory report for you to view.
Note that both the Treo 755 and the PPC 6800 are both slated for 5/14/07 launch! The PPC 6800 will launch as a Rev O (EVDO) phone, but will have future capacity for the first Rev A device (with a software update slated for later)."
I spoke to someone at sprint yesterday and they thought the date was going to be pushed back by a couple weeks, and then only open to business customers for a few weeks before it makes it's way to the general population. I would only take this with a grain of salt as the rep I spoke to wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
