I just love the 6800 form factor too much. What I would really like is a Kaiser style (6800 like, but screen also tilts forward) with VGA screen, and if it is not too much, gps.
i'd have to agree with jkingrim. while the 7150 looks nice, I can't go back to a device as large as the 6600 was - the form factor of the 6800 and footprint is very nice IMO and qaiser looks great - especially the tilting screen. but it would be great if it had vga.
btw I have come from 6601 lala land, and I held off on getting the 6700 for a long time - screen real estate was very important to me - and that was the main reason. however, its not as bad as a lot of ppl say it is (screen size that is). at least its not a treo size screen!
as for imate 7150, build quality should be great, I expect. I've owned a imate jasjar (htc universal) and it didn't feel cheap at all. they also have GREAT support (as long as you are the original owner of the device) and updated the jasjar quite a few times with roms, etc. but - gsm/edge/umts/hsdpa data rates are too expensive for me, which is one of the reasons I can't jump on the boat
Yes I am noticing that in order to get my same minutes, txt, and internet usage, my bill would more than double... VERY concerning.

Now I'm also trying to take into account that if I get the 6800 my internet usage is going to skyrocket. The only reason why I'm not using the internet a lot right now is because the 6600 doesn't have EVDO and I miss all my calls. I like listening to the BBC or watching streaming movies and TV on my 6600 coming from my home computer while I'm out and about..... man I'm going to need like 12 batteries... my 3550mah battery is normally at less than 30% at the end of my day.

the FCC confidentiality ends on 4-19-07. That releases pretty much every doc and photo they have on the 6800. I can only image that the carriers want the finished product out by then instead of people rummaging around in user manual revision files to see the goods.
Guys... i have some crappy news. I just got off the phone with UTSTARCOM and the support tech said the xv6800 device will be released sometime this summer. He said their engineers turned the device over to Verizon one month ago, but Verizon wants alot of time to test it. I dont understand why they need 3-4 months to test the damn thing. Its not like they are smart enough or care enough to post a ROM update. They just force you to buy the next generation device. But by that time a new device will be under way. Any how I am pretty upset this may be the case, because my 6600 is on its last leg.
Does anyone have any other news?
I would have thought that the Verizon-branded pictures we saw of the 6800 a couple months ago would have meant that Verizon had already been testing it. I just never know what to make of what CSR's say about this thing. Some have never heard of it and then some say things like this...just like always I guess we wait.
this happens all the time. the manufacturers release the phone to the end clients (verizon, sprint, etc) so they can test it on their networks and request any last minute changes so the phone will work properly with their respective systems (usually adding bloatware the we, the final end user, will not use and try to get rid of...) so this can take a month and up to more.. usually its a couple months then they give the OK and the shipments start coming in.. then there is a wait until its in the ordering system and a SKU is assigned to it. so yeah your looking at late summer probably.
remember, you know more than the average person and even more than the mindless knuckle draggers in these mobil phone stoeres... just walk into your local verizon store and ask one of them to give you an ETA on the 6800 and see how they react. this forum and the people who support it by posting, give you more info and are usually one step ahead of the game.. so as i like to say, ignorance is bliss... education is power butin this case its a double edge sword.
so sit back, relax and wait like most of us (myself included) for this release. BTW, there is a specific forum for the 6800 on this site so be sure and add it to your bookmarks and start posting about this phone there...
ALL, lets please keep this thread on topic and leave all the mindless rhetoric out of it please. there will soon be a lot of buzz on this forum and people wil be looking to this thread. we do not want a lot of chatter unrelated to the releasde. any chilodish remarks or posts off topic will be deleted so please lets help each other out and post on rumors/speculation. thank you in advance.
i am not sure the carriers will be ready to have the phone up to their individual standards by then. i think they need a little more time. the average person will not know this info is available and many may not even know this phone exists (other than the ones who frequent forums/blogs such as this one).
but yeah, from spekaing to a couple of somewhat educated sprint/nexhell techs last month, they all said sprint should have it by late may.. and they stressed the late part...
Thank so much for the clarification and I read your entire post. Not too long at all... That really sucks cause it makes me want to drop Verizon and go to a GSM network that provides more products to choose from. But Cingular/AT&T just is not upto par on their Edge or overall network.

Yup... I saw that too... I sent them an email explaining my discussion with UTSTARCOM.
I just got off the phone with Verizon and they are so secretive about the whole thing it is just unbelievable. The guy tells me to check phonescoop.com but that forum is so unorganized. Any how, i think it could run into summer. I am thinking about switching to a GSM with more phone options.
wow they should really work alot faster if they are gonna have info out for so long =\ i want to get a new phone so bad but the 6700 is ugly with that antenna and i really don't want to switch service from verizon.. guess im just gona have to wait the summer out huh =\
well 1-2 months is better than the summer =P... hey anyone know if verizon is gonna do like cingular did w/ black jack nd put like vcast on their pda's??
Well I am due for my Verizon "new every 2" next month and have been browsing these forums for a little while trying to get the down-low on what everyone thinks of the PDA-phones. Well I was looking at the 6700 (mostly b/c I think it will serve my needs the best) yesterday and asked about the rumored upgrade. The salesman acknowledged the coming of the 6800 but said not to expect any of the upgrade phones for "at least 2-3 months." If that is the case I think I will just go with the 6700, just tired of carrying the phone and the pda seperately on my waist and am getting tired of all the delay. So it looks like the phone won't be out until this summer...
