Yeah if it's 3rd quarter I'm not sure If I'm going to stick around w/ sprint. I am a bit tired of my 6600 and want something that has WiFi, high speed internet, and a newer OS. The 6700... I hate. So since I am no longer in a contract I'm going to look around for something better.
I'm just curious what you don't like about the 6700? Everything you just said you wanted (WiFi, high speed, newer OS) is in the 6700 when compared to the 6600. Beyond that, the 6800 loses the stub and .2 inches in thickness, gains WM6 (as of right now, only as a future upgrade), 128MB ROM, a scroll wheel, and less than a megapixel on the camera.
So again, what don't you like about the 6700? The way I see it, it has to be the stub, thickness, available ROM, the camera quality, or the lack of a scroll wheel. Since those are the only basic differences, we could go onto price. I think it safe to say you'll spend an extra $200 for the 6800 when it comes out versus the 6700 now. I guess it's your preference whether the added features of the 6800 are worth $200, but I personally don't think they are, especially since I'll end having to drop $30 on a 2GB microSD since some "genius" keeps deciding to shrink the slot each time they release a new HTC product.
PS - I will forgive said "genius" if the 6800 is microSDHC compatible.
I'm 100% with amirmckelvey... I don't like the 6700.
Mainly for all the reasons ckeegan suggested: Thickness, lack of scroll wheel, camera difference, rom weakness, stub antenna, and mainly OS upgradability...
All in all- these are HUGE differences. One of those alone wouldn't be enough but the fact that there are many reasons- I just don't like the 6700.
I'm also on board with switching carriers if the 6800 is Q3. My new every two is up and my contract ends in a month or so- if the 6800 isn't out on verizon then I'm heading to the 8525 on cingular (which is upgradable to wm6). I live and work in an area with HSDPA, so it might just make sense.
To go along with this- here's my question:
Why don't carriers post release dates for phones? In the marketing fashion of video games - set a release date and get consumers excited about these things! The buzz on release dates that exists in the video game world is crazy and certainly boosts sales- couldn't this work for phones as well?
Am I completely off on this because it makes sense to me...

But you are forgetting that they still have stock of 6700 to sell. If everyone new the 6800 was about to come out, they would stop buying the 6700s.
The 6700 is a device that has always bugged me since I 1st saw it, held it, used it, and put it back down. It just doesn't have the glowing love that the 6600 gave me... The 6600 just has more style and class, even though sprint nerphed it compared to Verizon.
The Cingular phone is seriously on my eye, especially since I get a big discount on cingular stuff through my job, I would actually pay a lot less for that 8525 style phone than the sprint 6800, then be able to use all those cool features that we are all waiting for 3Q, NOW...
I am half tempted to get the Itoy, I mean iPhone for fun and if it actually can do business applications like the sales reps are saying that it can, then I may just go that rout. But of course if sprint was on the ball and had the 6600 do what the verizon 6600 does I would be content to wait till 3Q for the 6800 to come out. My Fiance has to send me a text message to get off the internet when she wants to talk to me... That is annoying.

On second thought about it I think the Q3 and WM5 comments are specifically for the Telus-branded HTC 6800 only. It can be read both ways as the model from HTC since HTC is the one announcing it at CTIA or that specific branding of that model since Telus apparently is the first to publically acknowledge they are going to be offering it.
But if was for the HTC model in general...if they release it in July that wouldn't be so bad....if it was in Sept then it becomes more of a concern.

one did not know what 6800 was and said that htc was something i made up. The second rep knew of htc but had no idea about the 6800. The third rep i talked with said it was coming out with the Palm os.
Does sprint hire 12 year olds to man their lines? I can see that if they don't know then they should just say that, but come on.
I just want to know if the 6800 is on schedule or not.
If its on schedule and they are eventually going to offer a wm 6.0 upgrade then i'm all about sprint.. if neither is true then i'm jumping ship asap. Well My contract is up.. The balls in sprints court.
ps. hobbes you rock. I have been following your postings for 2+ years now. You should talk with the site admin to see about doing some front page reviews.

I believe that its coming out though.
But i dont know when.
Because i have been to other sites, and cant find out when the phone is going to be available.
when its available please tell me what time its out.
So i can buy it if its available.
If its not able to purchase then i cannot buy it. but i can buy it once it is ok to buy.
on a sided note, how much.
THanks
I don't want to sound rude or anything so please excuse me if it does come out that way, but have you read any of the posts in this thread because the answers to pretty much all of your questions are here...

You gave some good food for thought...

Just thought i just wanted to throw a little light monkey wrench into this topic.
I will buy the first available 6800 in seattle though, and dammit my 6600 ppc crashes when ever my battery gets to 40% or lower.
My next mission is to use the ppc6800 to record another police vs firefighter smack down in vancouver canada. Nothing like 2 minutes of fame to liven an other wise bland work week.
Well, so far it sounds like the Sprint rep I spoke to was right.
I looks like the 6800 is on track for a June release and the Telus version is only WM5. Sprint still hasn't released a single Rev A handset and I haven't heard of any coming out before 2008.
If this is the case I guess we can hope for updates. I'm sure Sprint won't leave us holding the bag with an outdated OS and fail to upgrade our EVDO. PPC6600
Seriously, I really hope that he was wrong. But the longer we wait and the little info we get, I'm starting to lose faith. This really has the potential to be an awesome device!
