Does this mean you can sign up for the data plan and get the $100 rebate then call and cancel it a few days later and retain the rebate?
$100 NE2
$100 data
$100 online discount
$50 mail in rebate

Total price $149.00??? Then cancel the data plan and retain all rebates???
Can someone verify for me??

Without having the data plan!
In essence, yes , you WILL need a plan.
That plan can be 'pay as you go' if you wish.

BUT, if you open any program that wants the internet, and it Downloads a few megabyte without your knowledge, you are going to pay BIG BUCKS.

So when you call them and tell them you want 'pay as you go' , also tell them to put a 'data block' on the line, so you don't make any costly mistakes.

I am thinking of getting the XV6800 but I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone actually gotten it yet and activated it?

How does the speaker sound?

Is there a way to get the sound to go through the speaker system of a car, like a fm modulator? I commute over an hour each way to work and want to use it to listen to pod casts.

Does it play video pod casts?

Is there a dual earbud bluetooth?

Does anyone know about the BroadbandAccess? Do we need to pay extra for it?

Can I plug my old earbuds and headset into it?

Thanks

I tried numerous channels to determine the best price. Naturally each channel quoted me a different price as the best possible offer:
  • Phone call to my corporate program rep: $499 starting price with $200 in unspecified discounts [NET = $299]
  • My corporate B2B site: $349 starting price with $50 mail in rebate [NET = $299]
  • VZW Support @ 800-922-0204: $499 starting price with $50 mail in rebate [NET = $449]
  • VZW Telesales @ 800-482-0890: $499 starting price with $100 new-any two, $100 data device, $50 mail in rebate, guaranteed me that no better price was available through any channel [NET = $249]
  • Verizonwireless.com: $499 starting price with $100 online discount, $100 new-any-two, $100 data device, $50 mail in rebate [NET = $149]

So ironically the best deal was available through the public website with no special tricks or codes needed, and confusion / misinformation abounds at VZW. I am satisfied with the $149 net price which is a fair deal for such an awesome device. See attached image of the receipt from verizonwireless.com to confirm the best deal.

I had a functional demo unit from VZW for a few weeks and it was great.

Very good, reasonably loud and clear for a small device, yet not loud enough to drive with the windows open or talk in a loud environment.

Many FM modulators have a plug that will go into the headphone jack. Newer cars have bluetooth receivers built into the stereo or navigation units.

Yes, Windows Media Player or similar software programs can play video and audio files / streams.

Yes, there are many stereo bluetooth headsets on the market. Try google.com.

You pay for the bandwidth that you use, price is per KB, unless you get the unlimited data plan.

Usually yes, unless you have some odd or proprietary set.

Question XV6800 Charging Port

Hi all. I got my XV6800 ordered and it should be here by Monday. I also ordered some accessories from the employee discount site because they are cheaper there. Those should arrive about the same time as the phone. One of the accessories I ordered was the vehicle charger. When I got the email confirming the order I was informed that charger was unavailable and had no known receipt date so they cancelled that part of the order. My question is about the charging port on the XV6800. Can I use the same vehicle charger I've been using for my XV6700?

That was a quick reply thanks.

So this does have a normal headset plug?

The BroadbandAccess I was talking about was connecting to a laptop for internet access. I would guess that it would be simply part of the unlimited data part but wanted to check.

For the FM modulator are there any suggestions for one, I don't have bluetooth in the car.

You have to purchase a $15 a month tethering plan. Or you can use PDAnet and only have to pay the one time cost to purchase PDAnet. If you do not know what PDAnet is do a google search or search the forum.

Or you can just tether to the PDA and use the connection any time you want. They won't know and it is the same bandwidth either way.

i'm not sure what charging port you have on the 6700, but the 6800 is a mini usb port. check to see if it fits. i'm not sure what charging voltage the phone uses though. you might be able to see if they are the same on the specs sheets. i'm thinking it's 5V DC.

p.s. that's odd they are out of chargers already. i ordered mine on wednesday and it should be here today. not to rub it in or anything.

I got mine last night. Ordered on Wed. They shipped it FedEx 2day but it came in one. Nice!

I ordered off the web with NE2 and ADD discount. Came to $212.00 with tax. The $50 rebate form is in the box so I should get an additional $50 off.

The device has worked great so far. I am moving from a Treo 650 to this so it is taking some time to figure out where everything is! But compared to the 650, this thing is stellar!

To answer one of the questions about the speakerphone. It is OK, but definitely not for use in a car or other loud area.

I have a Parrot bluetooth module in my car. Hooked directly into the factory audio system with a wiring harness. I can't live without the bluetooth speakerphone now. This website has wiring harnesses for nearly every car on the market. The module was $150 and the harness was about $60 if I remember right. Took me an afternoon to run all the wires. If you have installed a car radio before...this is pretty easy. Here is the website I got mine from:

Ok, got mine ordered now I have some questions.
People are talking about discounts
NE2 (not applicable)
Online discount $100 (they couldn't find)
ADD $100
ADD rebate $50

Because I started my plan with my equipment I had the new two year discount ($499). My total price will be $349 after rebate. I asked about the online discount and informed her that multiple people here had gotten it but she was unable to find it. If anyone can direct me where to find the online discount I will try calling them back. I was also unable to get the next day shipping. I called *611 (customer service) because telesales couldn't help me.

On a side note, when I talked to them they said I could get it without any data plan (if I used data it would be like .05¢ a kilobyte) but I would not get any of the ADD discounts (basically $499). She also told me I could cancel the data anytime I wanted (I also explained to her that I didn't think the data was really available where I live).

The cheapest net price after rebate is $149. See my post above for details and a screen shot to prove it. Just go to verizonwireless.com and login to your account then select the Upgrade Phone option along with the unlimited data plan and the low price will show just like mine did when you get to the payment screen. Telesales can ship overnight but with online they use Fedex 2-day, although some people got theirs overnight anyway. Telesales apparently won't or can't honor the $149 net price so use the web site to place your order.

The "online discount" is only available when you order...online, and it shows up automatically.

She even went through all the way to complete checkout on my account with an online order and it still wouldn't show up. I wonder if it is a regional promotion or something.

I will give VZW this, their customer support will try and help you any way they can with what they can. She really did try to find it for me.

Thanks for the input importmonkey. I've done some research and found some sites listing a vehicle charger showing both the 6700 and 6800. This is promising but not definite. Anyway I'll check myself if no one responds prior to my getting the phone. I'll let others know here what the results are.

As far as the charger being out of stock, I was ordering it from the "Employee Discount Page" which is a place that employees of certain organizations are given anywhere from 25% to 50% off of purchases. I can imagine Verizon only provides so many of certain items and leaves enough stock to cover the demand of the full price buyers so they can make a better profit. It doesn't matter as long as my XV6700 vehicle charger will work. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it will.

I recently took a job with a Verizon authorized agent store selling phones, plans and what-have-you. I was talking to my manager today and he told me from his experiences in the past with Verizon that once the 6800 shows up in stores next week (or whenever they actually show up) that the $100 online discount will go away, even if you order it online. Can anyone confirm that most likely the $100 online discount will go away in a week or so when they are in stores?
