I had a Verizon XV6700 for almost two years and watched carefully as the various models came out. I just switched to the Tilt and couldn't be happier. I don't miss Verizon one bit. The XV6800 is comparable to the AT&T 8525 which came out a year ago. So basically the Tilt is a generation beyond the XV6800 and yet Verizon still hasn't released the XV6800.
In my opinion the XV6800 is already an obsolete device before it is even released by Verizon
This is an incorrect characterization of the 6800 vs. the Tilt. I have both devices currently. The primary differences are that the Tilt has double the RAM, a functional built-in GPS, and a tilting screen. The 6800 is quite a bit lighter, a little bit smaller, and has a larger battery capacity. They share the same operating system level and the same Processor family... in fact the 6800's Processor is a higher number in the series than the Tilt. One is not really any faster or slower. I believe that the decision not to enable the internal GPS on the 6800 was a carrier driven decision... although I'm not positive of that. The 6800 could use more RAM, but that is not a generational thing... just a configuration decision.
The Tilt and 6800 are similar generation products, with different feature sets. I am still undecided on whether I will keep the Tilt or stay with the 6800. I really like the availability of an integrated GPS, but I also prefer the CDMA network and EVDO speeds at this point.
Finally, at the Verizon in Circuit City, an employee showed me both the i760 and the XV6800. Unfortunately, both have smaller screens than my current XV6600, but that's the way it is. I was told only B2B customers will get the opportunity to order the i760 on Friday. However, lo and behold, it was online this morning for everyone, and I ordered an i760 online. I would have preferred the XV6800, but I could not wait. I hope to receive it next week.
Took that printout to both our Local Verizon stores and neither had seen it. Both sites gave me blank stares till I handed them the press release and asked them "Now do you have any more information for me?". The Circute City site tried to sell me the i760 as soon as it came in. I told him I was more waiting to try the 5800 and 6800 but if he had any info on those I'd be happy to hear it.
But you all know how that goes . . .

This is truly frustrating, watching VZ come out with phone after phone that I have absolutely no interest in, and still no 6800. The i760 seems kinda...ugly. Even compared to the 6800s blue bezel. Exactly what is so mysterious about these HTC PC phones that takes Verizon so long to test and release them? They've released two versions of the Q in about a year, yet it takes them 2 years and counting to get out a replacement for the 6700.
I'm just glad my 6700 is still working alright, though it's got a few dents and dings. But it would be nice to have a smaller, lighter version with more program storage sometime soon...cmon VZ!

Mike that is very much incorrect. There are numerous differences between the Mogul and the Tilt. Just the fact that the Mogul is based on the HTC TyTn and the Tilt is called the TyTN II means they are different generations.
The Tilt features not included in the Mogul are twice the RAM, an integrated GPS, USB 2.0, a 3 megapixel camera, and Touchflo.
The Processors are distinctly different too. The Mogul has the Qualcomm MSM7500 and the Tilt the MSM7200. Both are dual core Processors with a 400 mhz ARM11 application Processor but the Tilt has a 274 mhz ARM9communications Processor vs. 133 mhz in the Mogul.
As for EVDO speed, here in Atlanta my boss who has an XV6700 and I ran Speed Test at the same time, he got 749 kbps and I got 849 kbps on my Tilt. So network speed is subjective to where you live.
If you compare the AT&T 8525, the 6800 and the AT&T Tilt/8925, the 6800 fits between the 8525 and the 8925, but IMHO it is closer to the 8525 than the 8925.
I guess we'll agree to disagree. I've got them both and used them both extensively, and would not assess them as generations apart. But that's just one man's opinion. The 6700 to the Mogul is a generational difference. The Mogul to the Tilt are two devices configured differently. Sprint just announced the Touch... it has no GPS, no keyboard, and no WiFi... so would you consider it a generation behind? I wouldn't.
The Tilt does NOT have TouchFlo, by the way, unless you added it after you received it. The camera on both of them is pretty much useless, but since the Mogul camera has a flash, it is probably more usable than the Tilt. I mentioned the RAM, which is not a generation issue, but a configuration choice by the manufacturer. I am pretty sure that the Mogul has the same integrated GPS, it is just not configured to be usable by the carriers that have locked, and distributed the Mogul. So the only true generational point is USB 2.0 and the communications speed in the Processor that you mentioned, but the Tilt is definitely not faster in use and operation than the Mogul. And the Mogul is based on the HTC Titan platform, not the HTC TyTN... they are different.

The tilt may win in some tech specs but I'd have to wonder how these differences would play out for most users.
I never max out the ram.
The GPS is nice but i dont think i would use it.
I'd like to see some camera pics side by side.
The only killer difference for me would be if someone gets BB connect to work with my company's email since there's no current reason to think I will ever be able to do this with VZW.
Right now I'd take vzw cdma and evdo coverage over these tech spec differences. Hopefully the xv6800 comes out soon.

With all respect Mike, I still disagree. First off the Tilt I have has Touchflo. There are quite a few threads on XDA Developers that talk about it. The only GPS in the Mogul is AGPS which requires a data connection to operate and cannot work independently like the Tilt.
Finally as far as generationally look at it this way. T-Mobile and Cingular came out with the Wizard around the same time that Sprint and Verizon came out with the Apache. AT&T then came out with the Hermes/Titan/8525 whatever you want to call it. It was a huge improvement over the Wizard, but a moderate improvement over the Apache. The Tilt is a huge improvement over the Hermes and the Mogul is an improvement over the Apache. My point is that AT&T has released 3 generations of phones 8125, 8525 and 8925, while Verizon is still on the XV6700, and while they have announced the XV6800 it is still vaporware.
I don't own both a Mogul and a Tilt, but I have extensive experience with the Apache, I now have a Tilt and my brother in law has a Mogul. I saw enough of the Mogul to decide that it wasn't enough of an improvement over the Apache to make a change. The Tilt on the other hand, is awesome. There is one thing I miss from the Apache, that's the LED light on the back. I used it many times as a flashlight, it was great.
Well either way. As you say we'll have to agree to disagree. It's all subjective anyway. The features and functions that you like best aren't going to be the same for me and vice versa. All I can say is I would rather have what I have over an iPhone any day.
Hi all, I've been lurking for quite sometime now. This forum is the best and I thank you all. I just received my i760 this morning. On the rebate page the dates are from 10/09/07-11/26/07 and it lists among the phones a rebate for the XV6800 in the amount of $50.00 The upc code listed is 0-44476-80238-6.
I hope this can help some of you, I could not wait any longer and had to get the i760. I did go as far and sign up with Sprint for a short time and had a Mogul. Great equipment!!!! I just wish Sprint's network performed in the mid-west where I needed it.

Just to be clear... the expiration date for the rebate form... for both units is 11/26/07?
Yes, the rebate form is thru 11/26/07. I suppose that's when they will announce new rebates, but more important they must "anticipate" a release before that date.
The 6800 has been on rebate forms since September.
In fact, I think it was on the rebate form for August which expired in September. I know for a fact the XV6800 was on the rebate form which expired 10/8/07, and if I'm not mistaken, the i760 was actually not on that rebate form.
I said this over at HoFo, but my guess (barely an educated one at that) is that VZW is going to stagger the release of all four phones:
October 19th - i760 b2b
November 2nd - i760 full retail - 755p b2b
November 16th - 755p full retail - XV6800 b2b
November 30th - XV6800 full retail - SMT5800 full retail
Again, just a guess. I really don't think they're going to release the 5800 initially via b2b, since it's just as much a business phone as the Q9M.
I was in the Verizon store yesterday and asked one of the guys when the 6800 is coming out and he said it will be out by Thanksgiving. But then he said he didnt want to give a definite date because the release has been pushed back so many times. So take it for what its worth...just another rumored release date. Hopefully verizon will get their act together and actually release it in November.

I think you're mistaken. I have measured the screen on a 6700 and Mogul with a ruler, and they are the same size. Don't let the varying case sizes fool your eye.

I have been watching this site since June and I have watched the numberious release dates come and go. I made a call to a very good friend, who is the Vice President of Research and Development for Verizon Wireless. He gave it to me stright, they are unsure as to what the new release date will be for the 6800, but his is 99.9% sure that the 6800 will be out before Christmas Day.
He explain that there's a technical bug issue that keep popping up.
I will keep you all informed....
