First time post , But Ive been following this thread for about six months now...

I called verizon today inquring about my the opt out privacy thing (Verozin will give personal information out such as colling history, websites viewed and things of that nature if you dont call to opt out) The rep asked is there was anything else i needed, I said "Oh Ive had my phone for a while are there any PDA models coming out" being sure not to mention any model numbers. She said what are u talking about specifically, I mentioned rumors of i760 and she said all I can say is that its coming out soon, and we hung up. The rep imeediatly called me back asking for me , Telling me that the i760 would be releasesed on November second "For Sure" so the aboved rumored date of Oct 19 will get put to the test, I'm going to call back tomorrow to see if I can get a similar resonse for the XV 6800

The october 19th is for B2B and telesales. November 2nd is for store release.

Why would you post this in a XV6800 thread?

I just got off the phone with a CSR who says the same thing we are all hearing about the 760, but said that he heard the 6800 would probably not be released. These guys say anything. They say that VZW's support is the best, but that kind of response is useless.

Oddly enough, I went to do a little in-store play around with the tilt and was not all that impressed... the slide and tilt mechanism seemed fine but the front buttons were a little chinsey... they kinda moved around and it was easy to miss press the button you were going for. It's also much heavier and seemed a little thicker than the Mogul from what I remember. Also, with full bars and 3g coverage, it was only getting ~350-400 kbit. compared with the 8-900 I was seeing consisitently on the Mogul when I played with it.

I have a theory. Since VZ has no solid date for the 6800 release, they are telling their reps to say whatever is necessary to either get you to buy something else right now, or to keep your business. If it sounds like you might jump to another carrier to get the Mogul, they say the 6800 is coming out in a couple weeks. If it sounds like you might be willing to get a lesser smartphone today, they say the 6800 is never being released, or they have not heard of it. It's the only explanation for the widely ranging estimates people are getting from the sales reps.

Reminds me of that dilbert cartoon someone posted a few months back.

Sales rep: "What's a time range between two weeks and never that will get you to buy today?"
Dilbert: "One month."
Sales rep: "Ok, the new one comes out in a month."
Dilbert: "Then I'll just wait for the next model."
Sales rep: "...You're the worst customer ever."

On the phone with Verizon rep getting some things fixed up with my account. She says the 6800 has been pushed back until Jan. She made it sound like they were very close to releasing it and then it got pushed back.

Fairly Drastic Move

Verizon's customer care center gave me little hope of ever getting the 6800; they mentioned the new phones now section and the i760. So I finally threw my hands up. So the iPhone came out; well, its not for everyone, but its a giant leap better than anything verizon has or will have in the near future, but when AT&T lapped Verizon (AGAIN) with the new 8925, even more powerful, in ways, than the iPhone, I couldn't wait another hundred pages of these forums about the 6800 release date. When the Tilt became available, I purchased one along with a two year contract with AT&T. I have been carrying both phones for about 2 weeks. GPS and 3 mega pixel camera, more RAM/Memory and a great tilting form factor. Those all make the Tilt much better than the XV6800 would ever be, that is if we ever did see the 6800. I purchased the Tilt at $149.99 (2yr contract) with no rebates at newegg.com. That really is an amazing deal. I have successfully paired it with Motorola S9 and it works just as I always wished the 6600 and 6700 would have. Although I must say I will probably return the S9s for the Plantronics Voyager 855. Check both of those items out, if you ever have a mp3 player phone with bluetooth 2.0 and AD2P stereo audio profile, they work great; even with voice command! I waited and waited, and sat back and thought about how many pages did we talk about the 6800 (100++++) and hope about the next date somebody came up with, only to be let down once again. My question is: is the 6800 worth the wait? I don't think so!. I am sacrificing Verizon's slightly better signal for a phone that I can really be happy with. I would be happy to share any other detailed information about the specifics of my decision but I would have to say, my wait on the 6800 has been relieved; its all over now; I am not ever looking back, not even for a glance.

This news on the 6800 really stinks... I know how disappointed everyone is about the delays. Getting a device out the door 9 months after the competition is really not acceptable. But lets keep this focussed on the 6800 and keep the i760 discussion in that forum's rumor thread.

Back on Sept 27, I posted the complaint I filed with the FCC about Verizon (after seeing the response another person got from doing the same).

Here is what I wrote:

Quote:

In May 2007, our contract with Verizon expired and, not wanting to be without service, my wife signed a new contract for 2 more years. At the time, the phone - the Verizon 6800, was due to be released to the US public in June.

In June, another CDMA carrier (Sprint) did release the phone. According to reports, the phone and service have worked nearly perfectly.

It is now late September and the phone still has not been released for Verizon customers. What's worse, the proposed release date is now pushed back indefinately. But because we have a new contract, I am stuck and unable to use the phone of my choice.

It is absolutely ludicrous that the American public is subjected to this type of service. What is worse, when the phones are finally released to the US public, they are often "neutered", removing features that European customers enjoy.

On Tuesday, I got a call from someone at Verizon responding to my complaint. Basically it was just explaining how "their policies blah blah blah don't release phones until they test them blah blah blah what other companies do doesn't affect them blah blah blah."

The lady did tell me that my phone was NOT under contract, so I would not have to pay the disconnect fee if I moved to another carrier. This was my #1 goal in writing the complaint letter, so I am happy with the outcome.

I forgot one other thing - I was at a sales pitch meeting a few weeks ago where Blackberry and the AT&T reps were pitching their stuff to the IT guys where I work.

I asked the AT&T *regional* business rep about a competitive pricing structure for plans to Sprint's SERO. He was clueless - so I emailed him 4 or 5 links about it, including the one on Sprint's site. He was shocked (in an unhappy way) and said he would "get back with me" about it.

Since the Tilt was released last week, I emailed him again saying I was now ready to get a new phone. He said - and I quote:
"I am unable to meet/beat Sprint pricing model."

I really like the Tilt, but there is no way I can justify spending 3-4 times as much per month essentially just to get GPS. I could buy a standalone GPS unit with the savings from just 2 months. So I guess I will later today be getting a Mogul from Sprint later today.

This is almost certainly my last post into this thread...

This issue has been very difficlut... I made the Jump to the AT&T Tilt about 1.5 weeks ago. The Phone is GREAT... AT&T's network is not... At least not as compared to Verizon.

3G is slower and Less Available then EVDO
The Biggest Issues is Dropped Calls...

If the 6800 comes out soon, I may drop the Tilt and head back to Verizon.

I have also had the Tilt now for about 2 weeks. Also LOVE IT! I have no issues with ATT network in the greater Denver area. I have also traveled to San Fran, Medford, Oregon and Calgary Canada. No issues whatsoever.

NOTE: I do not do a lot to web browsing with my Tilt. But phone coverage has been fine.

I had a Verizon XV6700 for almost two years and watched carefully as the various models came out. I just switched to the Tilt and couldn't be happier. I don't miss Verizon one bit. The XV6800 is comparable to the AT&T 8525 which came out a year ago. So basically the Tilt is a generation beyond the XV6800 and yet Verizon still hasn't released the XV6800.

In my opinion the XV6800 is already an obsolete device before it is even released by Verizon
