Does VZW have blind people select their phone designs?

For some reason, VZW still doesn't understand that people want phones that look nice. While network is extremely important (after all, the primary function of a phone is to make phone calls), just put in some effort to make phones look nice. This would have been especially easy since the Mogul already has a nice looking faceplate. The 6700 was equally ugly with its cheap looking black plastic faceplate, as compared to the more sleek looking Sprint version. If they tried to launch this phone in Eupope, forget it, they wouldn't sell a single handset.

With a long anticipated phone like this, the expectation has grown that VZW will deliver their best PDAPhone to date, and it sounds like, yet again, VZW is going to disappoint with yet another sub-par phone (if they can ever even get it to the market ).

I hate to say that the handset alone would get me to drop VZW's superior network in the US, but when you combine inferior handsets, VZW's lockdown model, no SIM cards (which the technology does exist for CDMA phones), their time to market (or lack thereof), their marginal support for international travellers, etc., etc. etc., I'm quickly leaning towards other providers. I hate to say that everyone I know has VZW, so I haven't paid for a phone call in 4 years, but I'm almost ready to cut the chord, suck it up, and pay for whatever calls I have to so that I can have the handsets that I want...

As for the 6800, it's definitely USB, not firewire. I've got it plugged it now.
Thanks for the update, on that. It must just be a proprietary USB connector.

Maybe they like their phone. In my case, my wife has a Chocolate, she specifically wanted me to get it for her only a few months ago, and there is nothing quite as slick that's comparable on Sprint or AT&T. "Hey honey, would you mind picking out a different, less cute phone on a different network so I can have my new toy?" Right...

Also, it is debatable, but some people insist VZ has the best network. I have found them to be much more reliable than Cingular when I had them a couple years ago. I'm not ready to believe the hype that they've gotten that much better just yet. Sprint is said to be comparable to VZ, but just see above for the main reason I'm not switching.
I'm in your boat. I have a 5 person plan and two of the phones are in Alaska. There isn't much coverage up there and its VZW or Alaska's Cell company.

BTW Tilt is "official" AT&T Tilt Debuted with Angled Screen - Mobiledia.

For anyone who wants to at least touch and feel the new 6800, most corporate Verizon stores have the dummy model. It's not on display and you may need to ask a salesperson quietly away from their boss, but twice now in two separate stores, they've shown it to me and let me play with it...

Is there any difference in VZWs 6800 and Sprints? I thought they were the same phone except VZW puts a black case.

Sprints is in a grey case. Alltell has the black case. VZW has the blue side with grey face. The buttons are different on the VZW version also.

I figure it's only a 2 year plan so if I don't like it I could always go back and I have 30 days to try it out. I feel so free! No more waiting on Verizon! By the time they come out with the XV6800 I'll be seaching for it's upgrade.
and then on the 27th you said

I haven't drop one call sense I've been back. I'm working on getting a Slingbox now so I can watch any DirectTV channel on my Mogul. Now those days that the wife has me out and about on a Sunday I will be able to peek at the NFL games!!!! I'll continue to report any issues I may have. I'M SO HAPPY TO BE FREE FROM WAITING ON VERIZON TO COME OUT WITH THE XV6800!!!!
If you ordered around the 21st and it was on its way... the VERY BEST it could have done (doubtful) would be to arrive the next day, did I mention doubtful?

That would mean you had the phone for LESS than a week and NOT almost two.

Calm down fanboy.

VZW XV6800

Hi everyone,
I've been here a couple months trying to keep updated on when the VZW XV6800 might be coming out.
I finally decided to just get the XV6700 so I called VZW about it today.
The lady told me if I could wait, that the XV6800 might be coming out for the holidays but she couldn't say exactly when. She said that she didn't want me to get the XV6700 and then the 6800 come out.
Before when I called about it, they didn't seem to know anything!

So I guess I'm going to hold off for now. I have to admit though, I'm getting very frustrated waiting.

It would be interesting to know how many customers VZW acually lost over the XV6800 not coming out.

Anyway, just wanted to post what I heard.
