One more thing...One of my sources was also under the impression that third party resellers (like your local corner wireless store) will get the phone before corporate stores do, but of course, they'll be available online.
UNfortunately now... the XV6800 is coming + the VOX
I was at my local Verizon kiosk earlier today inside the Circuit City on Southside Blvd in Jacksonville, FL. and the rep finally showed me a one page (8.5 x 11) flyer for the XV6800. It is the one just as in the recent pictures have shown it with the flat keys around the d-pad and the blueish border around the phone.
I was looking at its specs and it said 256mb ram and 64mb rom (or the other way around, always confuse that stuff). Dunno if the Mogul has the same or not.
The guy said that they were all at some event yesterday where Verizon showed them the xv, Samsung i760 and also the xv5800 which is the HTC Vox I believe. He was more impressed with the 5800 and had a weird glow on his face while telling me to wait and see that the xv5800 will be The One! The dude like fell in love with the thing.
But once again when it came to the release date he spoke in the typical-verizon-nostradamus-prophecy mode.. they are coming "soon".. by the end of October. Verizon acting Godly as always here hehe.
I am sick of waiting for the 6800 and am close to going to AT&T. The ATT phone also seems to have an advantage as an International phone and GPS. It seems to have it all.
Does anyone think there is any chance that the Verizon 6800 will be an International Phone?

It is international as long as you go to places where they have CDMA that is compatible with VZW. In other words, not really.

My gawd VzW messed up the 6800.... not only does that blue trim make it look like a toy, it also makes it slightly bigger than the 6800's from Sprint an Alltel.
Oh... and the current rumor is that the 6800 failed testing again. Can't confirm, only heard it from one source (which is not reliable).
"Verizon Wireless: Yesterday's technology at tomorrow's prices"
To be truthful, the blue is not that bad. It doesn't look cheap or fake, and you get used to it after awhile. I have both the Mogul and the xv6800 right now, and they are the EXACT same size. The blue is a little darker when you have the device in hand (the pictures don't do it justice), so it's not too bad.
This of course, doesn't make up for the fact that Verizon can't get off their arse and release this phone in any reasonable time frame!
Well I talked to two credible sources in Verizon today. One (a b2b rep) told me that Verizon still expects to release the XV6800 in the fourth quarter, but she didn't really have much additional info. The other source, told me that Verizon had two internally "confirmed" release dates of Oct 1 and Oct 8. He also said that they've pushed back the Oct. 8th date, and he's gotten no further information. He knows that stores in the areas have been have seen the demo on the phone, but most haven't been trained. It's not on the "upcoming releases," and wouldn't expect to see it at least for another 2 weeks, although he thought November was a more likely timeframe.
Again, all rumors, but I think it's pretty safe to say we won't see the 6800 on Oct. 15th, although I really hope we do.
That being said, I do have my hands on one for now. I've uploaded a bunch of pics I took tonight, just to try and keep everyone's spirits high.
Thanks for the pics!
I have to agree the blue doesn't look good. Odd its blue with a black back and a silver trim on the front.

Thats funny, I've been wondering what happened to the 5800. I've really wanted to see both the 5800 and 6800 side by side on a spec sheet to get exact differences. The i760 is out for me as it has a "lesser" camera and tho I'm not much of a picture taker it's nice to have it available (make life so much easier than writing down component serial numbers all day, or screen shots of system errors). My biggest concern with the 5800 is the size of the screen. Its already a smaller device but then they add the keypad to the front (not saying that isn't an advantage for many, its just not for me).
On a side note, on the below picture that VZ_bud1 posted I noticed the slot looked more like a firewire than a usb slot.?.

The more I see this phone, the less I mind the blue and the flat key design. If VZ can manage to release it before Xmas, I think I can live with it.
The 5800 though...I don't think I could live with a smaller non-touch screen. I hardly use my navigation keys any more with SPB Mobile Shell and iLauncher. Touchscreen GUI is the future, though it's nice to have a real keyboard as well. Making a smaller screen for the sake of a phone keypad is a mistake, when some of the free big-button screen dialers work so well, and there are so many one-touch alternatives like the favorites list on PocketCM or the photo dialer buttons on Mobile Shell--who really dials numbers anymore? I don't think I'll be waiting for the 5800.
Well, I can think of a few reasons. Sometimes you have multiple people on your account, so switching is not so simple, and now you're asking everyone to choose a new phone also. Maybe they like their phone. In my case, my wife has a Chocolate, she specifically wanted me to get it for her only a few months ago, and there is nothing quite as slick that's comparable on Sprint or AT&T. "Hey honey, would you mind picking out a different, less cute phone on a different network so I can have my new toy?" Right...
Also, it is debatable, but some people insist VZ has the best network. I have found them to be much more reliable than Cingular when I had them a couple years ago. I'm not ready to believe the hype that they've gotten that much better just yet. Sprint is said to be comparable to VZ, but just see above for the main reason I'm not switching.
Thanks for the pictures VZ_bud1. I'm just not that excited about this phone anymore. It looks pretty cheap and generic from the pictures you posted. It's taking VZ so long to release this phone I just think there are better options out there (or that will soon be out there).
I think the Sprint Touch is looking more and more like the phone I'm going to get. Looks like there is a new keyboard that will be available for it too. Not sure if anyone has seen this or not but I've played around with it a little bit and like it quite a bit.
the most reliable network - Verizon. i live in east TN (in the smokies) and with all the traveling i do in the east i have only dropped 1 call in over a year of service; and that one may have been a low battery late at night. I have been overwhelmingly satisfied with the VZW network after leaving Suncom and Alltel before that.
Now, as far as their speed in delivering the 6800, that’s a different story. Although i read in another forum that VZ, while running integrity tests, has had numerous setbacks. i have also read in another sprint forum for their 6800 that people have been loosing all of their data/contacts/calendar info when plugging in to charge "sometimes". i'd rather not have to put up with that if that is the hold-up from VZ's end.
Does VZW have blind people select their phone designs?
For some reason, VZW still doesn't understand that people want phones that look nice. While network is extremely important (after all, the primary function of a phone is to make phone calls), just put in some effort to make phones look nice. This would have been especially easy since the Mogul already has a nice looking faceplate. The 6700 was equally ugly with its cheap looking black plastic faceplate, as compared to the more sleek looking Sprint version. If they tried to launch this phone in Eupope, forget it, they wouldn't sell a single handset.
With a long anticipated phone like this, the expectation has grown that VZW will deliver their best PDAPhone to date, and it sounds like, yet again, VZW is going to disappoint with yet another sub-par phone (if they can ever even get it to the market ).
I hate to say that the handset alone would get me to drop VZW's superior network in the US, but when you combine inferior handsets, VZW's lockdown model, no SIM cards (which the technology does exist for CDMA phones), their time to market (or lack thereof), their marginal support for international travellers, etc., etc. etc., I'm quickly leaning towards other providers. I hate to say that everyone I know has VZW, so I haven't paid for a phone call in 4 years, but I'm almost ready to cut the chord, suck it up, and pay for whatever calls I have to so that I can have the handsets that I want...
The 5800 is nice, I like the front key-pad, but I'm not willing to sacrific screen real estate, so I'll be sticking with the xv6800.
As for the 6800, it's definitely USB, not firewire. I've got it plugged it now.
Thanks for the update, on that. It must just be a proprietary USB connector.

I'm in your boat. I have a 5 person plan and two of the phones are in Alaska. There isn't much coverage up there and its VZW or Alaska's Cell company.
For anyone who wants to at least touch and feel the new 6800, most corporate Verizon stores have the dummy model. It's not on display and you may need to ask a salesperson quietly away from their boss, but twice now in two separate stores, they've shown it to me and let me play with it...
