Picture Messaging with the XV6800. Questions.

I recently upgraded to the XV6800 phone from an LG EnV phone. On my old EnV phone I could simply take a picture and then send it to an email at full resolution size using my unlimited messaging plan. The pictures ranged from between 200kb and 500 kb. I was never charged any extra data by doing this.

Now using my new phone It seems I can only send pictures to an email at a much reduced size and roughly 20-30kb. I have also began receiving micro 0.01-0.03MB data usage for my pictures sent. Is there any way I can make this new phone send in the old way, or is this something I have to deal with?

Make sure you're sending them from the MMS account and not from an email account. If you are sending them from MMS, you shouldn't be charged for the data transport, but if you are sending them out as email from the phone (IE, from an email account on the device) you will be charged data as per your data plan. If you have an unlimited plan it won't matter, of course. Also, check your MMS settings. I no longer have that phone handy, but IIRC there was an option for what resolution you would send your MMS out at.

Picture resolution was set to the smallest setting. Fixed to always send original.

Concerning data, Verizon said that by the very nature of this phone, I wouldn't be able to escape micro data charges (0.01 MB here and there) like I could when I had an enV. I was reluctant to include a data package because I thought the only viable package was the $59.99 one, but found out with a smartphone I could get an unlimited $29.99 package, so I went with that.

Thanks for the help.

Glad I could help with the image resolution. As for the data charges, my verizon device is on an unlimited plan paid for by my employer, but IIRC there was a big issue with PDAs charging fa lot or data transport for MMS when conventional phones in the same circumstance didn't; and that (at least if you were on an MMS plan) the PDAs wouldn't be charged the transport fees for MMS. This may have changed with the advent of the nationwide plans that charge KB used for handsets, but you might want to look into it.

(FWIW I also have unlimited data on my personal phone and use the heck out of it, though).
