UPGRADE TO SPRINT HTC TOUCH PRO FOR $50! (*must have insurance)
Just wanted to give Mogul owners the heads up that they (assurion-the sprint phone insurance) are out of stock of the Mogul. Why am I telling you this? Because they will IMMEDIATELY ship you a HTC Touch, or you can (if you happen to get a cool rep) a Touch Pro. All this for $50 if you have the insurance. She told me that the Touch pro was also out of stock, but if I wanted to switch to the Pro and wait, I could.
I really liked my Mogul, but there is NO COMPARISON with the Mogul and Touch Pro. The TP is everything I always wanted and tried to hack it to be!!!!
chilly - if u don't mind follow up with us when your touch pro arrives. I have heard mixed reviews on these and would love the opinion of a 6800 owner. I am still torn between this and the omnia but I am pretty tied to my hard keyboard so the pro is in the lead.
For now I am happy with the 6800 (I like to give the hackers an devteams a good 6 months to work the kinks out of new tech before I jump). Give us the goods - especially on speed with and without touchSLO turned on. Thx in advance.
The Touch Pro is very fast compared to the Mogul and very, very fast with the 3D interface turned off. I'm used to the WM interface and would leave the 3D turned off anyways.
My biggest problem with the Touch Pro is the sound. Phone calls sound terrible. The Mogul is a very good sounding earpiece and the Touch Pro is at the other end of the spectrum.
The touch pro is awesome, but I tried to do the same for my mom. She has a Mogul, and they will only trade for the touch now. One thing that everyone must accept is the battery life on all pda / phone devices are going to be less than perfect.
I happen to be in a situation where I'm using both (personal Mogul, work VX6850). IMHO the only place the Mogul outperforms the Touch Pro is battery life, and even then it's pretty close (app usage is key here; as is the fact that my Mogul has a year-old battery with some heavy use while the Touch Pro is brand new).
I can actually multi-task on the Touch Pro, the VGA screen is gorgeous (which leads to a much better web browsing and video experience), the TF3D interface rocks my socks (YMMV), the camera is light-years ahead of the one of the Mogul...
Downsides of the Touch Pro: Battery life is marginal (I want to see some reviews of the Seido extended battery) but that can be managed with an external USB battery pack (PPCTechs is my current one, but there's plenty others). The VZW Touch Pro is a tad heavier than the Mogul (don't know how the Sprint one compares, since they have slightly different bodies).
At any rate, I have a receipt in my wallet for a DHRP Touch Pro to replace my 6800 because of keyboard issues (not faking it, I was expecting to be given another Mogul and have to flog it on ebay to afford the one-year upgrade price); and at 3 pm I call the store to find out if it's in.

UPGRADE TO SPRINT HTC TOUCH PRO FOR $50! (*must have insurance)
I took my broken 6700 into the local Sprint center today and was given a 6800 in exchange. Later I called Sprint to see if I could be upgraded to the Touch Pro for $50 but didn't have any luck in Tech Support, Acct. Cancellations, or Sales. With the time and expense involved in installing apps and upgrading accessories (batteries, hard case, screen saver) I wish I was at least getting a phone they currently sell so that it could last me another 3 years.
If there are any secret words to use to get the $50 upgrade please let me know.

which I think is correct for the CDMA version, but the Touch Pro CDMA version does have wifi.
So I called them because I have some damage on my phone. She offered me the Touch but not the Touch Pro. I asked her if she could just send me another Mogul and she said they still had Moguls available. I told her the Touch does not have a slider/keyboard and was not a comparable phone, she didn't care. Anyone with luck? Do they have the Pro in stock?
Apparently it's backordered; based on my experience with the local store. I still don't have mine, despite having had it ordered on the 21st of December.

Chlywily - did your phone come in a new yellow box like brand new phones come in? Or was it in just a white box and such like insruance phones normally come in? Thanks! I'm just confused that they want to give me a Touch and not the Pro, these are not comparable phones!

I had no luck. Woman on the phone explained they are still sending out Moguls.
yea, she was going to send me a touch...but I was thinking she isn't talking about the new HTC Touch but the old touch...whatever...I've never been lucky with insurance. oh well!
I'm about to return my Touch Pro. The phone itself is very cool but for the price I paid to get battery life like this, I'm going back to my HTC 6800. I can barely make it a full day on the Pro and this is with moderate usage and NO talk time whatsoever. Very poor performance in that regards. And getting an extended battery isnt an option unless I can keep the phone looking the way it does now, without the fat backside.

Seido apparently has a slimline extended battery in addition to the heavy-duty one.
That having been said, I have found the battery life on my work Pro a challenge. Things that have helped (admittedly, I don't use it as a primary voice device, but I do use heavy data) include turning off auto-backlight and setting it very low, turning off BT unless I'm using it, setting a screen password and using SensorLock to lock the screen input. At this point, I can't get my Mogul to go a day under normal use (I think the battery is shot, though, it charges and discharges way fast).

I've decided to go back to my HTC 6800 actually. The battery life was one issue I had with it but also the fact that I find the Pro to be too reliant on the "Touch" which I guess I should have assumed from the name but I really thought the Diamond was more for the iPhone types since it has no keyboard and the Pro would be for those looking for an upgrade to the 6800, Mogul, Titan etc...
Whereas I almost never slide the keyboard out on my Pro - though admittedly I use the block recognizer a LOT (I had to learn Graffiti to use my Palm Vx lo these many years ago and it stuck). I set up a third-party app to detect when I pull the stylus and set the SIP to Block Recognizer. The TF3 interface is perfect for my finger size; and I don't have too much difficulty with the soft keyboard (the HTC Touch one, not the WM standard keyboard). If the Touch had a memory slot I would almost consider that; but I have an 8 gb memory card.
