So I, like so many others, have had to replace several of my xv6800 phones from verizon. I received a total of 8 devices. I recently replaced 3 with refurbished ones and Verizon finally agreed to send me a new device instead of a refurbished one (or certified like new, as the Verizon person told me they don't have refurbished). Problem is, when I compare both screens at full brightness my new screen is much dimmer than my old one. Confused I went into the store and checked my new and old against the store display version (note: there was a burn in spot on the store display unit), and the store display was just as bright as my old phone. I then went to Customer support and they agreed to give me a new one. Problem is, the new from the store one they pulled out WAS AS DIM AS the new phone Verizon shipped to me. Now I am totally confused.
Has anyone else noticed this? Did they finally try to fix the burn in by reducing the maximum brightness, or perhaps changed the screen design on new models. Do I have to decide between a bright refurbished phone with a burn spot or dim screen without the burn spot?
Is anyone else getting totally annoyed by how verizon customer support tells you that they have never heard of the burn in spot? Lies, Lies, Lies.
I'm with you on this! The burn in spot is horrid and there is no excuse for it! I'm on my 6th one and it now has the burn spot too. They have offered me a i760 on a multi-fru. I'm considering taking them up on it. They have also offered me an Omnia for $150 after rebate and discount. If I had the $150 I'd just do that.

I just went through a number of refurbs, and they ended up sending me a new one.
I wasn't paying much attention, as I was just glad to have a good phone again. But now that you mention it, I believe it is harder to see in bright lght.
Side note: I noticed a Verizon employee brag about how most of the phones that customers send back as defective are found to have no defects. So they are just put on the shelf and sent out as refurbs. Now I know how all of that garbage gets put into the refurb system, they don't do a proper job of looking for defects on the returns. They just assume the customer is an idiot.
Huh, I received my 6800 as a replacement formy 730. I have only had it afew months, granted I do use it a lot, but I already am getting this spot. This sucks. I wonder if I should even bother trying to call them if all I am going to get is another one of these that will just do this all over again. I love the look of the Omnia, but I am pretty tied to my keyboard. Let us know how your swap turns out with the Omnia if you choose it.

I think you should bother. Verizon needs to figure out how to make this right.

My Sprint Mogul has been going for about 14 months now and not a single spot or problem of any kind.
There is something different about the Sprint version, that does not get a burn spot. I wonder if you could compare the brightness of your sprint phone with a verizon version.

My buddies Mogul has two white spots, and everyone else that I know with the phone of any branding have the spot too.

Everyone I know who has this phone (15 or so) has the spot regardless of provider. I'm on my 3rd Mogul, all developed the spot. I've read that the spot is related to the placement of the vibrate mechanism, if you don't use vibrate you may avoid it. From my less than scientific study in over a year of Mogul ownership, the white spot affects almost %100 of these phones. If you don't have it, you're extremely lucky. HTC decided early on that they were going to do nothing about it. The call it an insignificant cosmetic issue, probably because to deal with it would mean replacing every phone. The providers will swap out the phone if pushed, but the replacement will develop the spot eventually. I'm guessing here, but the variations in screen brightness are probably normal. If your first unit was to the bright side, a dimmer replacement is going to be very noticeable. It's all moot now as this phone is no longer being manufactured. Personally, because of the never resolved build issues on the Mogul/6800 (white spot, cheap usb port, keyboard), I will likely avoid HTC products when I look to replace my Mogul. I hoped to wait another 6 months to a year, but the usb port on my 3rd Mogul is starting to get "funky", it may be sooner.
Well over a year old, on vibrate 75% of the time, no white spot of any kind. Not a single problem with the phone. Every button works and the screen is perfect.
I even have a notification program that always runs and reminds me of missed calls, emails, texts and voicemails every 2 minutes. That's a lot of extra vibrating ringer usage.
My USB port also works. Not sure how someone would go about breaking that. LOL

Dng ding ding..congratulations, you've won white spot LOTTO, and I'm jealous! I've had 3 units and the longest I've gone white spot free is about a month and a half. As for the usb port? You don't break it, it just breaks. If you look at the port, it looks like a solid gray piece of plastic with pick ups embedded in it. If it were well made, that would be the case. Unfortunately, the plastic is a relatively thin shroud for some very thin easily bent pins. If the plastic wears or bends a little, it's all too easy for the usb plug or headset plug to bend one or more of the pins rendering the port useless. This is an exceptionally stupid and cheap design for a device that doesn't have a separate headset jack. The included stiff and heavy headset adapter puts additional stress on the port when the unit is holstered horizontally, like when using the included holster. More durable mini usb ports exist, I have several products that use them. HTC decided it was more important to save what is maybe $.02 per unit instead. After the first port broke I stopped using a wired headset, but the second units port only lasted a few months. Each time I took them back to Sprint, the rep replaced them without question or inspection when I described the issue. I read that as the problem happens so often they no longer even attempt to see if it can be repaired. My current port doesn't have any bent pins, but now only syncs when the plug is pulled ever so slightly out from the full in position. It has me concerned, as does the dim always on back light on the "internet" button. If this unit breaks, I don't want another. I'm at the end of a contract so I could get a touch pro, but I'd rather hang on for as yet unannounced non HTC made non WM and preferably Android based phone.
I wonder if there's something else going on. My brother had a Mogul for over a year before getting the Touch Pro recently. He never had any white spots either. He still has the Mogul and it still works perfectly except for the green phone button because of a direct impact from a fall. Otherwise, not a single problem of any kind on either of our Moguls.
Neither he nor I use a holster with our phones. Only pockets. Could it have something to do with magnets from a case or holster?
Nothing to do the holsters. And if you are with sprint, keep going back with problems, but good friend was on his 3rd return and they gave him a free upgrade to the tough pro.

I just compared the Mogul I received new in box 3days ago to the refurb that i got today, the refurb is nice and bright(with a white spot already), the new one is definitly dimmer. Not only is the NIB one dimmer but it also has this yellow tinge to the sreen when viewed at an angle and btw there isn't a screen protector on it yet.
I have just been living with the white spot problem for ahwile since i dont mind much, however there is NO way im gonna live with a screen thats dim or difficult to see in sunlight. That was why i hated the 6700 so.
Sounds like i might have to start complaining about the white spot and see if i can get a touch pro....
Well, I went to another store in a different state to compare the brightness. The new ones they had were also dim. Can't decide if I want to send it back for another refurb that is bright, or stick with a new one.
BTW, I never use the vibrate on the phone, and it still shows up.
It is a shame, this is a fantastic phone, except for the burn spots, and the screen brightness was one of its best features.

Well, the answer to my question. Nope burn spots not fixed. Started showing up in the dimmer model just two weeks after I got it. Guess I will be sending yet another one back.
