Well, with the replacement phone, I get a ppp connection error on data connections. I won't go into the ROM flashing that went on that could have caused this. They are sending a 2nd replacement phone because they couldn't figure it out. Googling "ppp connection error xv6800" gives some possible solutions but I'll just wait for the next phone and hopefully things will go fine.
Well, not to interrupt the flame fest going on here, but I just received my brand spankin new Touch Pro as a warranty replacement for my 6800 as I posted above. I arrived 3 days ago and it is unbeleivable. This thing is finally what I have really been looking for. I finally feel like I am not settling for just functional and I am actually enjoying me device. Keep hammering on them and eventually you will find a rep willing to deal, I did!
PS - I think getting sent a brand new device under warranty that should have cost me 300 or so is an admission of an issue, but I could be wrong. I am just happy that they took care of me.
Well, now I'm waiting for my replacement to show the spot. Why, oh why, did it have to work so good. I'd love to have a Touch Pro. Seriously, though, I like the replacement xv6800. My biggest issue is with available RAM. It really sucks having to worry about RAM all the time and I don't really run lots and lots of different programs at the same time. I usually run the built-in apps (cal, contacts, IE, tasks) and about 3 others consistently (total commander, spb wallet, windows live).
Just a little off topic, for you new touch pro users, how is it having the orphaned "m" key on the keyboard? That seems really awful to me (almost a deal breaker for heavy keyboard users).
I'm with you, martyh1. The xv6800 has been a good device for me, especially thanks to the hacks from people on sites like PDAPhoneHome. The only issues that plagued me were the connector and burn-in spot on the screen. It's not that annoying to me, but I was sick of dealing with the el-cheapo USB connector that gave me constant problems, especially during ActiveSync.
Yesterday, I received my 9th Mogul from Assurion, and like all the others they've sent me, bar one (it developed the spot later), it had the burn-in spot. Evidently a lot of people have been calling to complain about non-existent issues just to get the Touch Pro, because I called Assurion, who told me to go to the Sprint store so a tech could validate my claim.
When I arrived there this morning, the tech was shaking his head at all the trouble Assurion put me through. Nonetheless, they took a look at it and confirmed the problem, then the tech had to call them and tell them "yep, there's a spot". So Assurion asked to speak to me and offered the Touch Pro, an offer I gladly accepted. He looked at the other tech beside him and whispered "he's getting a Touch Pro, man".
Well ive been dealing directly with Verizon and not asurion and i got no luck at all. Im on my 5th phone that SO FAR has no bright spots but im 90% sure it will. Should i make an asurion claim instead? i really dont know where to go with this anymore.
Just keep plugging away. I would stick with Verizon, as Assurion doesnt care to please you as a customer. VZW wants to keep you. At Verizon, it is all about who you talk to. The downside is it is a crap shoot. The thing I would really stress to them is that all you want is a phone that works. If you go in guns ablazing and say you want a TP it won't happen. I think the other factor is that I am out of contract, and so although I never threatened leaving, the thought was there for them.
Just keep calling and exchanging or just deal with the spot, but I will say persistence pays off. I have had my Touch Pro for just over a week now and I love it. No low memory issues, and all the bells and whistles. I am not even bothered by the lack of buttons.
My only other suggestion is to call after 9pm est. This was suggested to me back when I was dealing with i730 issues and at the time I thought it was ridiculous, but it has seemed to make a difference. By calling later you get West Coast help and they seem to be a little looser on the rules. I know this is profiling, but there is a reason the FBI has full-time profilers - it works. Call later, be nice but assertive, and just request a phone that works then lead them to the TP by quoting comparable options. It may have just been dumb luck, but this method worked for me.
The way it worked for me is that the other models they suggested didn't have what the Mogul offered. The Treo 800's screen was too small and square, the Diamond didn't have a keyboard, and we were going to continue this endless process of returning defective units to Assurion if something else wasn't done. By the process of elimination, it all led to the TP.
I havent asked for a touch pro until my 5th phone.
They specifically said that they could not upgrade me to a Pro because i would have to pay for a data plan on my phone if i did that and that the Pro is 20 dollars more than the phone i bought at the time i paid for it. Which is lame but im really sick of constantly getting new phones that keep doing the same thing and them constantly lying to me that they dont know of this being an issue.
As long as the few defective ones are replaced for free (which they are), it sounds like everything is fine. There isn't a problem with all of the screens or some underlying problem in the design of the phone that causes them all to go bad.
Perhaps earlier ones were better and the later ones and replacement ones have problematic screens. I don't know but I do know that there are plenty of Moguls that still have perfect looking screens out there. I'm proof of that.
Statistically, you're wrong. Over a 1 year period i have gone through 1 refurb and 4 new phones and they have all given me the exact same issue. With or without case. Also, statistically my numbers outweigh yours based on the fact that you said that youve owned two good ones? my 5 outweigh your 2 by a ratio of 5:2 not to mention the countless people in the same situation. Also, i have gotten phones as recently as november and now january and as late as april of 08. So im not quite sure how timing or batches could be the issue as almost a year ago, i bought my phone and i still have the EXACT same issue as before.

Please try to use correct spelling and grammar from now on. Thank you.
OK, we are now flaming based on grammar? It might be time to either loosen up or write this thread off. I thought this thread was about getting Verizon to take care of a known issue, not about arguing over the issue itself. If you have a working 6800 - great. Some others don't. Who cares who is right statistically, ideologically, grammatically, etc. I love this forum, but really - fix your grammar? Let's all move on. The Mogul is a great phone and every piece of tech has it's issues. This one seems to have a screen issue for some. I have read each of your posts in other threads - you are both pretty sharp as it seems - lets be constructive.
