Garmin Mobile XT GPS software on 6800 changes my phone's time

Greets all...
If i give too little info, please let me know and I shall provide.
xv6800 running Garmin Mobile xt which works wonders with the built in GPS.
I do not, nor plan on getting, a data plan.
When I start up Garmin, it admittedly takes a while to find the orbiting thingies in the sky but when it does it runs smoothly and like a charm.
However, when I close Garmin Mobiel XT< I notice my clock/date is set back to Oct 18 7pm... which is about the same time and day I first ran the software on my phone.

Any thoughts? It'd be a pain to have to reset the time and re-dismiss all calander events that have occured since then each time i use it.
Thanks in advance.

I just got this software, and I am having the same problem on my XV6900. Not every time, but occasionally on startup of the Garmin XT app, my time gets reset to 8:00 PM. I have the display set to automatically change to night mode at sunset, so I know it is happening at startup because the Garmin software tells me it is shifting to night mode.

I don't have a solution yet, but nice to know I am not alone. I'll open a support case with Garmin.

Update..
here is an email from Garmin tech support.
Turned out I had file version 4.2 and a new version (5) was released a month ago.
Upgrading from 4 to 5 will of course look different, completely different, so be ready, but it is easy to get used to, I like it better. The install when as smooth as silk for me BUT did NOT solve my issue! Time and date when back to Oct 25 7pm as SOON as the satalites were found. Here is the email with links.:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. Please check your version of Garmin Mobile XT. To do this, from the main screen, select Settings à About. You should see your software version there. It may also be under Tools à Settings à About depending on which version you are running. If running any version below 5.00.20, you will want to update using the instructions below..

I would recommend ensuring you are on the most current version of Garmin Mobile XT software. To download the latest software available for your particular operating system, please visit the following link:

Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT Navigation for Smartphones Software Update Collection: Garmin: Garmin Mobile XT Navigation for Smartphones Software Update Collection.

Please note: It is essential to select the correct operating system software when installing a software update from our website. Select the Windows Mobile version of the software. Download and run this software on your PC. You will need to connect either your original memory card reader or your phone. IMPORTANT: There is no need to delete any software from your card to apply the update. Please do not delete any files.

If this issue persists with the latest build of the firmware, I will need to know as much information as possible, including the carriers the other individuals you mentioned are using (if available) and their phone models and Mobile XT versions. I will need to get this information passed along to the proper individuals to actively test it.

Update...

Got this email from teh support guy I was dealing with. Have not tried it. Anyone...??

Regarding your specific issue, so far, it seems the only correspondence
on there (pdaphonehome.com forums) from what I can gather is limited to Verizon devices. I was
testing the Windows Mobile version of our software with an HTC device
with another carrier here in the office using an external (Bluetooth)
GPS receiver and I have been able to successfully pair and run the
application without the application changing the time in the device.

There are a few suspicions I have as to why this is occurring. Verizon
is one of the few carriers which denies access to the internal GPS of
their devices to third party software such as our own. You mentioned
this error was causing the time to roll back to when the software was
first installed, which leads me to wonder if the software is installed
while your internal GPS is disabled if it will allow this service to
function as normal. If you delete the application off the phone, go into
your settings and disable the internal GPS altogether, then reinstall
the application, does the error persist? If this works or not, please
let me know as I am going to gather all of the information I can to pass
along to our developers

Dare I say I solved this issue?

Turned off my internal GPS. (start - settings -system - external gps - access - uncheck the box)
Uninstalled Garmin.
Pulled out SD card.
Reinserted SD card.
Reinstalled Garmin.
Synced up a small Bluetooth GPS receiver I have.
Got it working with Garmin.
No time change upon closing Garmin.

then...

Closed and ended Garmin.
Turned off my bluetooth device and turned off bluetooth in device manager.
Enabled my internal GPS via the settings above.
Started Garmin.
Took ages to find location (normal with this internal GPS chip).
Did not, and never did change my time or day.

So, at this point, I would dare say, issue solved.

Life is good, until I can figure out how to get a faster GPS signal.

Verizon GPS

So you are basically ignoring the 6800's own GPS chip? I'm interested in using the phone for GPS navigation. But if I have to pay Verizon to use a piece of the phone that I already paid for or buy a GPS receiver to do what the one in the phone ought to be doing I figure I might as well buy a separate unit with a bigger screen.

Ignoring? I dont think you read my whole post mate:

"Closed and ended Garmin.
Turned off my bluetooth device and turned off bluetooth in device manager.

Use the phone man, pay 90 bucks, buy Garmin Mobile XT and show Verizon who is boss.

Yeah, they program these 6800s so you cant use the internal GPS chip which I use (I only used my bluetooth gps reciever as a test.) but there ARE ways around this via hacks and such...

None of which I know anything about. I bought my 6800 on ebay with everything ready to use the internal GPS chip.

As a side note off topic, my wife asked me if it was okay for me to do this; use the internal GPS chip without paying verizon. I told her I was 100% comfortable with it because I own the phone (verizon doesnt), I paid for the phoen (Verizon didnt give it to me if I signed a contract) and the phone is essentially a comptuer. You dont seel Dell or Gateway locking away certain parts of a computer's hardware unless you pay them do you?

OK

Sorry, I obviously missed the part about your phone's GPS chip not being locked up by Verizon. I'm stuck with Verizon. I read about a hack on this BB to get around the lock but it requires a level of tech savvy that is beyond me. And when the instructions warn that i better know exactly what I'm doing before doing anything it makes me even more nervous.

I have no qualms about using the GPS chip--if I could. The way I see it the phone is mine. It was purchased from Verizon, although there was obviously a subsidy.

Trust me, I am with you. I looked at some of the instructions for unlocking the GPS.. I consider myself a techy savvy person but they made me shudder. I am glad I bougt mine used, albeit, with an unlocked GPS
The tiny bluetooth GPS recievers are awesome and small and can be kept in the car at al times, thats what I did with my 6700

Tell me,

How did you get the Mobile XT to work with the internal GPS? My internal works with Google Maps and Live Search, but with Garmin it doesn't.

Thanks,
Jim

Funny story... first off, I had to jump start my internal GPS WITH google maps. I dont have the data plan so it would tell me it couldnt connect, I hit cancel, then started the GPS within google maps... let it find the sats, then light up Garmin...
However, I met a friend at a Wendys in town last week. He was gonna hook me up with loads of audio books on a 4 gig microSD card as a gift. I took out my Garmin card, set it on the table, and literally spend the next hour trying to find it. Its gone. So we drove to his office and he hooked me up with TomTom. Which is awesome, but I still have to jump start it with GoogleMaps. But it doesnt change my time

Com 4.

What phone / rom are you using?

If it is the xv6800, latest stock rom and the valhalla cab. It may never work.

I fixed it already, but lost my sd card at a Wendys. Now I have TomTom and it works fine.

I have determined that the time change problem occurs if GarminXT does not quickly get satellite lock. Apparently there is an undocumented feature that sets the device time from the GPS signal, but if it does not get a lock, it sets it to midnight GMT.

My solution is to prime the GPS with the BAF GPS Toggle today plugin before starting GarminXT.

I did every you said, but my HTC Diamond keeps changing time. Not every time, but when it does it also changes my calls and text mesagges times. Did yours finally fixed or not? Sometimes, with the phone on incorrect time, I open again Garmin XT and the time gets back to normal, sometimes not. What else do you think I can do?
