Angry Why Verizon, Why?!?!?

Looks like Verizon is leaving us in the dust again. I saw in a news post from Microsoft indicating that many HTC phones, to include the Mogul, will be receiving an update to WM 6.1. To see this news release go to Microsoft Unveils Smartphone Advancements to Improve Ability to Work and Play with One Phone: Company demonstrates new version of Internet Explorer Mobile with desktop-grade Web browsing, introduces updated Windows Mobile operating system. and scroll to the bottom to see the lists of the upgrades. Verizon and the XV6800 is clearly missing from the list of equipment and cellular companies that will see this update. One more time that i see my provider not caring to keep up with the times and failing provide it's customers with quality support.

I sent Verizon an e-mail earlier in the week asking if I could put a Sprint phone on Verizon's network and pointed out the voice command thread to them and asked when the heck is Verizon going to get an update out for the XV-6800. I missed the phone call when they called back (Dad was in the hospital having surgery and I couldn't have the phone on due to the medical equipment in the area).

I've been with Verizon almost 8 years and I'm really getting fed up with the slow updates to fix issues and the release of new phones that aren't crippled. The only thing keeping me with them is the customer service (two friends of mine and both my sisters have Sprint and all of them said CS is really horrible).

The only thing keeping me on VZN is my wife... for now. I like the phones being put out by Alltel, Sprint, and AT&T. I also like Sprints mack-daddy everything plan.

VZN on the other hand is sorely lacking. CS is great with them, but that won't keep people in the long run. New toys and better plans will.

I flashed my 6800 with the Sprint update and then N2C's ROM. At this point, my phone is only a shell of the OEM phone I purchased in November. Shame that VZN isn't going to listen to their customers.. shame.

Well, I e-mailed Verizon about this and here is the response below:

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name
is Terrence, and I am happy to assist you regarding your concerns
regarding the XV 6800.

We appreciate your loyalty to our wireless products and services, and
we are committed to resolving your concerns. I apologize for any
inconvenience in this matter.

Unfortunately, we would not be able to activate the Sprint Mogul
previously used on the Sprint network. Effective 02/14/08, VZW will work with
customers to activate non-VZW devices for the customer?s retail use on
an existing or new voice calling plan if the device is compatible with
the VZW network. VZW cannot guarantee that a non-VZW device will be
able to function with VZW service.

The only approved devices that can be activated on the Verizon Wireless
network are as follows:

Kyocera KX-1
Kyocera K-404
Kyocera KX-434
Kyocera KE-414
Kyocera KX-2
Kyocera KE-434
Kyocera KX-414
Kyocera 2325

LG VX-5400
LG VX-6000
LG VX-4400

UT Starcom CDM 7025
UT Starcom 9900
UT Starcom 9155
UT Starcom 9500

Additionally, Verizon Wireless does not offer the Windows Mobile 6.1
update at this time. I am unable to provide information regarding which
equipment is being considered or approximate release dates, as this may
raise expectations that may not be met.

You may receive free e-mail updates as to when new products and
services are available. To receive your free e-mail update, please click on
the following link, to view the "E-mail Updates" page of our website:

www.verizonwireless.com/emailupdates

There are several wireless phones being tested for functionality and
reliability with our network. Verizon Wireless will not offer a product
or service unless it meets the high standards our customers have come
to expect. Verizon Wireless is constantly improving the services,
features, and wireless phones we offer to our customers for their
communication needs.

I apologize again for any inconvenience in this matter. I also wanted
to take a moment to thank you: You have been a loyal customer since May
2001, and that longevity is appreciated. I hope we remain your favorite
cellular provider for years to come.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to assist you today. We
appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Should you
have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this e-mail.

Sincerely,

Terrence
Verizon Wireless
Customer Service

Not to worry. The talented hackers at ppcgeeks and xda-developers will have the Sprint update working on Verizon within hours of the release. You can run 6.1 right now if u want, thanks to no2chem over at ppcgeeks. I've been running it for over a month.

I received an email/voice mail from Verizon stating that an update is in the works, but they would not disclose a date. The voicemail made sure to mention that the features available would be similar to the Sprint updates.

Not sure about more details at this point, but I have a phone number for customer service to discuss the issue further, as I expressed bith my displeasure and a willingness to go to Sprint for future services.

Damnit Verizon, I'm so sick of you guys being dead last to release pre-existing updates, pre-existing phones... and when are you going to meet Sprints challenge on the $99 all inclusive plan? (Sprint talks trash about Verizons $99 plan that only includes talking, when Sprint includes it all).

Damn Verizon. but I still stay with them....

I hate to break it to you guys, but Sprint is just better. They have some new customer service program and they are really trying to work with the consumer, and if you get an idiot CS rep, hang up call back and get some one else. For the price, and the functionality, Sprint is best.

Not really breaking news, just an opinion, but I will admit Sprint's biggest problem was their really lousy customer service. I'm glad to hear they are working on it.

I'll give Sprint a couple of years to catch up to Verizon's network level and customer service and then will probably jump ship if Verizon is still playing stupid games like this. I do feel bad for all the Sprint workers in Northern VA who are losing their jobs because Sprint is moving out of the area. It was formerly the Nextel building....

Which phone do you have? Your profile says you have the Samsung i760 which has an update available for it on Slorizon's website. If you have the XV-6800 then according to another topic here the update is supposed to be available either at the end of July or mid-Aug (wouldn't surprise me if they pushed it back to Dec 2008 or Jan 2009).

I'll agree with you that Slorizon sucks in some areas (new phones released long after everyone has them, updates, current selection and the way they cripple features so you have to pay those idiots to get them back).

I'm waiting to see if Slorizon is going to be releasing the HTC Touch Pro and if not then I'm going to terminate when my contract expires next year.

FYI I called an talked with a service rep and asked if there were any updates
his statement was to go into the store and have them check; if so they will update your phone with any new releases. Just passing it on.......

I was a longtime Verizon loyalist (about 8 years). I didn't think anything could touch them. Then I got with Sprint and I don't regret it one bit. Saving an assload of money with SERO helps, but in all seriousness the voice quality, signal strength, and yes, customer service have been top-notch. Easily just as good as VZ if not better. I should have made the jump a lot sooner.

I'm wondering if Verizon's hesitancy has anything to do with the large number of bricked i760's the 6.1 update has caused (including mine). Verizon is sending me a brand new xv6800 because their update bricked mine, and I'm not alone (there is quite a thread going on about it over on the i760 side).

I only have this phone because they won't replace my i760. I feeling more and more confident about changing providers in the near future. I'm tired of being loyal to a company that's obviously not loyal to me. I hate the XV6800 and feel that it was a big downgrade from the i760.
