IMAP with Pocket Oulook disconnects VPN

Hey guys,

I have a wierd issue. When I'm connected via wifi at work, I can sync my email via IMAP just fine. However, if I VPN over EVDO, then tell pocket outlook to sync, it kills the VPN connection during the Logging In stage, and then shows a connection failure.

I have also VPNed in and used pocketputty to telnet into port 143 of my mailserver and I get the usual IMAP header response, with no disconnects on the VPN. Sharing folders also works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

So I figured out that whenever I try to connect to anything other than a share it disconnects the VPN. I read that it was because the apps that auto-connect to the "internet" see it as a non-work address and disconnect the VPN. I tried going into Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Exceptions and adding any of the following three:

XX.XX.XX.XX (mailserver IP, showed up as XX.XX.XX.XX/*)
mailserver.domain.com (showed up as mailserver.domain.com/*)
*.domain.com (showed up as *.domain.com/*)

I also tried using the netbios name of just "mailserver" but that didn't work either.

I had that problem over evdo before. I would connect up and it would disconnect unexpectedly...just loose the vpn connection. Have you tried the "Always On" reg hack for your evdo connection? That worked for me...providing I was in an area with decent evdo coverage. I once kept my vpn connection for about 6 hours.

After enough putsing around, I did figure this out. In the settings for the email account, you must set it to use the "Work" network. Then, in the connection settings for the Work network, under proxies, you must check "This network connects to the internet". What a stupid location for that setting.

Now the problem I have is that if I hit the power button while the VPN is still connected, the screen goes off and the phone locks up. Yay.
