(PIM.VOL) Please help!!! I must save contacts

Hello. I am new here but have used this site in the past to install programs on my ppc-6700. I have a new problem where my phone freezes within 10 seconds of booting up. My laptop was stolen and I no longer have access to my back-up contact list in outlook. After playing with the phone for 5 hours I was able to stall the phone from freezing and did a copy of all the files when you sync (i did get the pim.vol file). I am just needing my contacts and the phone does not allow me enough time to sync them over because once it freezes it no longer has a sync relationship. I have copied the pim.vol file over in the past and it did not seem to import my contact list. What steps do i need to do so that I may copy the pim.vol to a new ppc-6700 so that I can salvage my contact list. Thanks for the help in advance. I am desperately needing some help with this issue.

John

John,
Try PIMBackup: [NEW] PIM Backup v2.5 [NEW] - xda-developers

BTW, I think pim.vol does include your contacts, but its practically impossible to move it from one device to another using that vehicle.
Good luck, tmb

Well if you have the pim.vol on the pc like you said you were able to do, I would think.....when you get then new 67.....just copy/over write the pim.vol in the root dir.....either by sync (guest) is fine since all you are doing is xfering files/ir transfer/mini sd and other means possible.

Also you might want to d/l pimbackup it is freeware...and a life saver for your new 67.

Edit.....TMB got to it first...LOL

I don't know whats causing your freezes but perhaps you can still get a small file installed? If so, load up a safe mode prog such as this one (link to exe or cab at the btm of the page) monocube : development. - SafeMode 2 for Pocket PC which will possibly get you rolling.

Is the freezing related to an install gone bad?

It is not due to an install gone bad. The phone decieded one day that it would no longer boot up after one of the phone calls that I made. I will try the Downloads that were given to me to see if I can get anywhere with them. Is there anyway to open or extract the info in the pim.vol file to where i can just view the contact numbers. At this point i dont even care if i have to type the 1,400 contacts in one by one.

I was thinking about something. I have a program that keeps alerting me when a phone call comes in. This program was installed on the sd card which is now missing ( i must have lost it when i was attempting to reboot over and over again). Could a thirty party install cause the phone to freeze if the card is not in the phone. I dont believe this is the problem since the phone has loaded fine in the past without the card. I'm looking for any solution at this time and thought that i would bring this up. Also, when you do a master reset it erases all the contacts, right?

Yea a hard reset....will start you from scratch...no contacts/no programs that you installed...etc...if you want to go that route....it would be you only hope....then just copy over the pim.vol after the hard reset has finished.

I would also say that there is a good chance that the program on the SD card that is missing and when your phone tries to run when a call comes in could have the affect of freeze.

Again, if it is no big deal and you have nothing to lose then start over "fresh"...and just do a Hard Reset.

Good Luck

As Unknown is saying (as does this link PPCSG > Way to backup and restore your PIM for WM5.0 ) you can restore the pim.vol file after a hard reset. At the very bottom apparently there's a guy that it worked for. A hard reset is hold down both softkeys and then do the stylus in the hole reset.
