Fraud? Seriously? What would compel you to ask that to begin with, or to try to keep it alive by poking at it a day later?
Your response is just out of line. Suggesting that this is insurance fraud is very presumptuous. The 6700 is a terrible, terrible phone. It is poorly manufactured, I've been unluckier than most and have gone through 6 or 7, I lost count...one every other month or so (previously with a 6600, no problems save for the complete fail it had about 9 months in, which is what upgraded me to the 6700 in the first place.
When sprint is out of a particular model, they're out. If your unit dies within the manufacturers warranty (roughly 1 year on these devices) then sprint, as the authorized repair center has to either fix, exchange, or replace your device.
It's really that simple...no insurance fraud, no misbehavior, nothing other than shoddy manufacturing.
It looks like there was some commentary about a cracked screen that the OP edited, and although that seems like a poor decision, it doesn't change the underlying fact that if the device was broken, it was broken. A cracked screen actually makes it HARDER in my experience...the only time that happened to me (it was a stress issue on the i330 with how tight the glass was in there) it was a PITA to get it resolved.
If you would have seen the original post, you would have seen that the op purposely cracked the screen just to get a replacement. And to keep the Sprint people from seeing that he messed it up by (mis)installing an unofficial rom.
You would have also seen the now deleted post that asked me "who killed my goldfish" for calling him out on his poor judgement. I was responding to him, not just "poking at it".
As for the "quality" issue, that's just a cop out, it makes no difference. If you purposely torch your Mercedes or you torch your Kia Rio, it's still fraud.
The bottom line is that scenerios like this play out every day, the difference is that most people here have the good sense to not make posts on a public board bragging about it.
I also saw the orginal post.....and I second...that "ryeguy" stated the 67 was stuck on the splash screen and desided to crack or break the screen himself so that the sprint personal could not see that an Illegal Rom "splash screen" was install and of course as we all know that having a Illegal Rom installed void your warrenty.
It was like a whole story on how it went down.....now it is just one simple comment, after editing.
Also if you noticed the "I didnt" post by ryeguy..was edit...which is a pretty interesting comment when the poster above also commented about the crack screen.
Tony you are correct
"The bottom line is that scenerios like this play out every day, the difference is that most people here have the good sense to not make posts on a public board bragging about it."
AMEN!!!!!!
Reminds me of the show "COPS"...always trying to get there 15 min of fame.
he messed it up by (mis)installing an unofficial rom.
[/i].
Not True... I had kirvin's CS ROM on my phone for MONTHS. w/ no problems.
Then one day I take it out of my pocket to make a phone call and the **** is stuck on the splash screen. I made a phone call on it 5 mins prior. All attempts
to Soft Reset, Hard Reset or Re-Flash would not work. I did what I had to do to get my defective phone replaced.
And yes I edited the post after some of the "forum cops" decided to label me as
commiting insurance fraud, which is not the case.
Why would anyone bother to break their phone if they voided their warranty with an unofficial rom. If you have insurance, just tell Sprint you lost your phone. What's the big deal.

I've had mine for a year and a half with no real problems. Thankfully, as I shudder to think that I might have actually had to deal with Sprint's 'customer service'. I just hope that the OP defrauded Sprint and not some innocent insurance company covering the replacement fee.
My wife just left her 6700 (my old) at the movies this weekend. Called insurnace up since no one returned it to lost and found and we're getting a refurbished 6700. I thought they might be out of them but they are not

How people can get a PPC device, blame it on manufacture, accidents, fraud, theft, etc. - and get it replaced so many times via insurance or sheer luck.
I've had my device for almost 2 years (6700), and I'm patiently waiting for the Kaiser to be released here in Canada. I know the phone will still work, and last me another year at least because I have a freaking aluminum case on it!!!
If people don't protect their devices properly without a sturdy case (leather pouches, stickin it in your pocket, etc) is bad common sense. Put it or any future PPC device you may have in a FREAKIN aluminum case, and the number of accidents, frauds, etc will drop. Sadly, I just realized that I assumed people know what an aluminum case is, here's a sample from ebay:
Notice it has a plexiglas screen? That's right, it protects your device's screen, and you can see it clearly. There're many cases out there now for newer models - including the Tilt/Kaiser models.
I've had my device for almost 2 years, dropped it many times inside the case, and no problem. Sure there's dents and scratches, but hey - it works great. As for toying with ROMs, and such - well c'mon, if the guy doesn't know what he's doing, and ends up screwing it up, that's a lesson - DON'T DO IT AGAIN, or BE FREAKIN CAREFUL NEXT TIME. Or at least get help from someone who does know what he's doing.
Sorry for the long winded rant guys, but I just thought I'd put out the vibes that people need to be accountable for their devices, and take better care, and responsibility looking after them. Yes accidents happen, and having an accident with a sturdy aluminum case is the best way to go.
after months of problems with my 6700, daily freezes and crashes, I called 800.584.3666 and filed an insurance claim for a "broken phone". they sent me a 6800 for my $50.00 deductible and it should be here any day. only thing is i didn't mess with my rom so it was the original rom but I was certianly out of my warrenty period... did i so something bad too?
No, but what I'd be worried about is being charged for the new phone. If they get it in and don't find anything wrong with it, they do have that option.
i just spent the last hour searching the web for posts from anyone that was ever charged full price and ive found none...what do u base your comment on?

rest assured, my 'rant' was in no way an indication that you did something bad. however if someone is new to computers or PPCs, and would go about their usage, and something goes wrong on it - they either don't understand what's going on with the devices, or quickly presume it's defective. you know what I mean? say someone has a car - drives around with it for 2 years, and suddenly it's acting jerky, maybe s/he didn't change oil? check transmission fluid? it's pretty standard stuff, I know. But people sometimes miss out on it.
Now comes computers/PPCs, it's a whole new realm where people are still learning how to simply set up their email accounts, and browse the net. Yet they've no idea how to protect their banking transactions, etc. Blah blah - you got the gist.
If I offended you, I meant to do no such thing. Just ranting in general. And yes, I'm a ranter.
