After hearing all about how amazing the Tilt is, I was thinking about ditching my XV6700, switching to AT&T and getting the Tilt. My wife also wanted to get the Treo 750 with unlimited internet and the thought of paying $44.99 for 2 data plans with Verizon was making my wallet shudder. It seemed time to book and I agonized over this all day yesterday. I spent an hour on the forums reading AT&T reviews and getting a lot of information that expressed both the pros and cons of switching. But after agonizing and agonizing and then speaking to a friend of mine who carries an AT&T phone for work and Verizon for home (and who complains about AT&T all of the time), I decided to stay with Verizon.
And after reading up, I realized
something important.
The XV6700 is a really really good PDA phone.
Sure, it has its foibles. The sound could be better, the battery life could be longer, and it would be nice if it was less thick. And I still don't like the stylus after having it for a year and a half. But, there are a lot of things to appreciate after comparing it to a lot of other Windows Mobile phones on the market.
1) It still has one of the faster processors on the market even though the model is already a few years old.
2) It has solid wifi and bluetooth capabilities.
3) It plays music and video very well (using Coreplayer anyway).
4) It has a pretty good keyboard
5) If you don't load it down with too much invasive software and don't allow Verizon bloatware in, it runs very well.
6) At least in NYC, Verizon's phone service is tops. Despite all of the bad stuff you sometimes hear about Verizon, I would put its cell service up against Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile any day of the week. I've used all of them and Verizon is the best. Yeah, you pay a lot more for it, but it's really good.
7) EVDO is reliable (most of the time).
8 It uses a standard USB connector. I once needed to recharge it out of state and was able to go to a camera store for a recharge cable. That's really a great thing.
9) I've gone as long as 3 weeks without soft reseting it when I can control myself and not add every piece of must-have freeware that I see.
Anyway, that's just my two cents.
