Activesync Question re: Deleting Partnership

Hello, recently my Sprint PPC 6700 stopped syncing with my desktop. I tried everything except a hard reset.
My question is simple: if I click on 'start' --> 'programs' --> 'activesync' --> 'menu' --> 'options', and then click 'delete' with 'Windows PC' highlighted, will this delete the partnership that my 6700 has with the desktop? And if so, what else will it delete? I have heard of people having problems with the renaming issue with Activesync, like "Windows PC", etc.

I recently downloaded Activesync 4.5 up from 4.2, and there is no partnership listed in the desktop Activesync. Although the problem was there even before I downloaded Activesync 4.5.

If I delete the 'Windows PC' from my device in Activesync, will I then be able to re-sync?

Thanks!

whatever the name of your ppc device is what you should delete. if you named your phone "windows pc" and you want to delete the partnership between the phone and the computer used to sync with the phone, then make sure the phone is not docked to the computer, then delete the partnership. this will delete the partnership. nothing on the phone is deleted. you then reattach the phone to the computer, it will find it and start a new sync. it will also ask you want you want sync'ed to the phone and computer.

After you delete your partnerships, it may be a goodea to also go to your Device Manager and uninstall the Mobile Device which is under Network Adapters I think. The reconnect your device and the PC should pick it up

Weedahoe - I'm jumping from our previous thread at:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...e-sync-xp.html

After checking everything you discussed, I'm still having the issues, but I think you are on the right track.

Just to sum up:
-USB will recognize device, but errors out, can't find device.
-AS 4.1 installed (originally had 4.5, but un/reinstalled and loaded AS from my Verizon CD, just to experiment)
-Bluetooth Service installed as well (done since last post)
-Cradle w/AC being used, skipping the USB hub and direct connect to laptop

I think that deleting the original Windows PC partnership on the phone, it just can't be recognized by XP.

Any suggestions on how to get that partnership back or reset the phone to factory defaults ?

Nope. That wont be it. In order for you to create a partnetship, the PC and PPC have to see one another and communicate. If you get your communication between these two devices so work first, then your partnership will come next.

From start to stop, this is what I would do......
1) Uninstall AS altogether from the XP machine.
2) Check Device Manager and uninstall the device as you see in the picture above. Note that the it may be a bit different or it may be listed in a category called "Other Devices" (you may not have the cat.)
3) On the PPC, go to Active Sync -> Menu -> Connections and make sure that box is ticked and has USB in the drop down.

On your PPC, if you go back to AS -> Menu -> Options, do you have anything listed? You should not if you are trying to start fresh. So if you do, remove it.

Now, no sync data should be on your phone and AS shouldnt be installed on your XP so you should be almost ready to start it all back up but first, do you have any 3rd party software firewalls on your XP machine such as Zone Alarm or Norton, ECT? If so, try to disable them and they will and are designed to block ports and stop communication. Remember that the PPC needs TCP port 990 to communicate with on the PC.

Now, make sure the PPC is NOT connected to the PC and reboot the PC and soft reset the PPC. When the PC boots back up, go back to your Device Manager and leave that window open as you will use it to see if XP sees the phone at all.

Install AS v4.5 on the XP machine and IF you are using USB ports on the front of the PC then after the install of AS, try using the ones on the rear. They may go through a different controller. Likewise if you are using USB ports on the back, then try the ones on the front.

So when you connect the PPC to the PC, do you notice the Device Manager refresh and display anything new? Does the PC seem to detect the PPC at all? Does the LED on the PPC come on to visually verify any 'connection' or 'communication'?

Lemme know how this goes for you.

Hello, I tried doing what you said and still cannot get a sync. The desktop beeps and recognizes the device, but the device doesn't beep and start syncing.
What do you recommend next, besides hard reset?

LOL.....hmmmm.......coming short of hard resetting the phone (which I really cant see resolving the issue) but I would try it on another computer just to make sure.

weed,

did all that, I disabled norton, installed AS 4.5, etc..

the device manager refreshed with Windows Mobile Based Device #7, and it was recognized as a USB device every time, but it will not get past the circling 'connecting' in XP AS.

maybe i botched the PPC when i deleted those partnerships

is there a way to test whether 990 is working, is there a port scanner out there ?

Hey there, I think I missed a step in the instructions. I tried to find "device manager" or "network adapters" but I cannot find it on my desktop. I have Windows XP SP2 Media Center and the closest thing I can find is this:
If I click on 'start' --> 'my computer', I can see "Mobile Device" but I cannot delete it off the desktop.
Does anyone know how to find the mobile device and delete it on the desktop. I have already deleted the partnership on my PPC 6700 and when I go to activesync on the PPC 6700 it shows some stuff about what syncing does, so I know I deleted the partnership there, and I have the USB thing highlighted too.
All I need is some guidance about how to delete the device off the desktop.
Thanks!!

If all else fails the Verizon WDTS customer support helped me with this problem -- 800.922.0204. I had it syncing to a network server too and they had me delete this and sync to just the pc.

I worked with Tech Support for a global company for several years while I was in college. Believe me when I say that even it you “disable” Norton it is still blocking. The only true way to do that is to boot the PC is Safe Mode with Networking. To do this you need to reboot and the PC and press F10 to get to your advanced startup. From there you will have an option to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. We would have people call in all the time trying to do various things or even sometimes just simply surf and could not due to having Norton Sec Cntr or firewall installed.

Yes there are several freeware apps that you can use to do firewall pinhole tests.

Neither the Device Manager nor Network Adapters is located on your desktop. You have to go and right click on My Computer and then go to Properties, then go to the Hardware tab and then go to Device Manager. In that screen you will find Network Adapters. You cannot delete the Mobile Device from you’re my Computer because it is “installed” on your machine. It is the same as why you cannot delete your C drive from My Computer. It too must be uninstalled.

So now that you know where the DM is at, go there and right click on the mobile device that MAY be listed in Network Adapters (as the pic shows above) and you will notice it will no longer be in you’re my Computer. As long as the device is still installed on your PC, you cannot install it again. For those who want to argue that, yes, you actually can. But to keep this as simple as we can, lets just say we cant install it while it is still installed, please.

Wow, you are the man with this stuff. I went through the steps but in network adapters all I have is "Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection". There is no moblie device listed anywhere here. Does that mean that it is not on my desktop anymore?

Im not exactly following you when you say it is on youe desktop so please clarify on that one. IF it is not under Network Adapters in DM (on WinXP) then it isnt installed correctly (unless it was there and you uninstalled it).

I just mean that maybe the mobile device deleted itself off of my computer. Is that possible? How come I still see the mobile device in 'my computer'?
I am sorry to waist your time, but what do you think I should do next?

Ok, I tried to connect on another computer and this time Activesync didn't even automatically start to look for the device. On my usual desktop computer when I connect the device I get the beep from the desktop acknowledging that a device is connected, and then Activesync attempts to connect. With my laptop Acticesync didn't start up.

Anyway, I might know what happened:
I use MmeMaid and a while ago I was getting a repeating alarm everyday at the same time. I had the problem once before, so I went into MemMaid and then into 'Notification Queue'. I saw multiple notifications for the alarm and deleted them just liek before. Except this time i think I got a little crazy and deleted something else.

Weed, I know you also use MemMaid, here is a list of my 'Notification Queue', maybe you can compare it and see what I am missing, if this is even the problem?

1.) \Windows\calup.exe = Argument: AppRunAtTime Thurs, Nov 15, 2007-12:00
2.) CALNOT.EXE = " " Wed, Nov 21, 2007-12:00
3.) clocknot.exe = " " Sun, march 9, 2008-2:00
4.) repllog.exe = " : /sched/remote/h Thurs, Dec 30, 9999-11:00
5.) calnot.exe = A full device data restore completed. Argument: AppRunAfterRestore
6.) calnot.exe = The system time changed. Agrument: AppRunAfterTimeChange
clocknot.exe
7.) clocknot.exe = " " " " same as #6
8.) repllog.exe = " " " " same as #6 and #7

I think I deleted one of the repllog.exe's from the bottom, but I am not sure. Anyway, I hope this might be the problem, and the solution might be to add whatever repllog.exe I am missing!!

Thanks again.

Well, nothing would work. Got with Verizon L2 support and they had me do a Clear Storage to bring the device back to manuf specs. I did backup all my data, so no bubbles, no troubles.

So I guess the rule is; if you delete the windows partnership from the PPC, you are hosed.

This forum is great.
