Screen Align Loop

This might have already been discussed ad nausea but I thought I would go through my situation to get the best solution.

I purchased a PPC 6700 around 2 months ago. First thing I did was place a screen protector on it as advised by several at the Sprint store. Everything was working for about 2-3 weeks when the screen became slightly unaligned, I'm not sure why. At first I thought it was a simple fix and went to settings and attempted to align it. However, unlike the original boot up, the screen align didn't take 5 taps. Instead it went into a loop and after about the 200th tap I gave up. I took off the screen protector wondering if it was causing some sort of disturbance. It wasn't. I am in the middle of doing my clinical rotations (the reason I purchased the device) and had little to no time to worry about the alignment. I simply adjusted my tapping to the new alignment (and no it isn't uniform throughout the entire screen, having gaps especially in the upper middle portion). I read and talked to some more people and found that some people had used a cold/hard boot to fix the problem. I attempted this and now my PPC is stuck at the screen alignment, which I cannot cancel out of like before using the power button tap.

Is there anything short of opening up the device or replacing it I can do to solve this extremely annoying problem. Thanks in advance.

what ROM version are you using. its worth a try to update to a recent 3.5 ROM and see if the problem persists. if you still are getting the error then you may indeed have a hardware problem. i've had to go through the align cycle about 5 times before, but never more than that that i remember.
good luck.

I had this problem on a Dell Axim several years ago. It turned out that the problem was some dirt stuck on the outter edge of the screen between the screen and the lip of phone's body. The dirt was applying constant pressure making it impossible to align. I used a business card and scraped it under that lip and it cleared up the problem.

I think TeamG is right...

... but I hope for you sanity that he isn't. It would be good to try aggie's suggestion to see if it works, though you might want to try a clean sheet of paper before the credit card though.

I lived with this exact problem for six months because I just knew my equipment protection would cover a Mogul replacement ... and everytime I called there was no stock of 6700's. Turns out they had 10,000 6700's on back order and they had all come in with the Moguls.

They DID give me a brand new 6700 though... good thing too, cause the 700wx is NOT a comparable model! (DON'T let them give you that absolute horse crap!)

Yeah, if you've got equipment protection you're covered. If not, you might be screwed.

Chances are you've already resolved your problem, but I wanted to chime in. If what kelvin3 says doesn't work for you, chances are your touchscreen is broken. This happened to my iPAQ many years ago and it was actually caused by my screen protectors.

Does your screen protector have a sticky (bound by an adhesive) backing? if it's too sticky, upon removal you will damage the screen by separating the resistive touch screen layer from the glass substrate. It will register taps, but in the wrong places. If the phone is only 2 months old, I would take it back to Sprint for an exchange as you have a standard 1 year warranty on the device. They should have no problem doing this unless there's some obvious physical damage (or your water damage sticker is red)

Question

I am having this problem. Soft reset, doesn't help. Hard Reset, doesn't help. I don't use a screen protector. I did just install the Rom update from Verizon XV6700 AKU3. But now it won't align.
Any ideas?
Thank you..
