okay -- so i have a custom ROM setup the way I want it for a while now -- i've had my xv6700 since march 2006, and have taken really good care of it, and besides the usual scratches and dings it looks pretty good. the only issue is with my joystick thingy (technical terminology i know) -- it's EXTREMELY loose and i have to be pretty deliberate in my navigation with it. I talked to the Verizon insurance people to see if i qualified for a replacement claim and i do . . . so my question is -- do i get a replacement? what has been your experience with replacement 6700s from Verizon? are they refurbs? lower in quality? any big issues i should know about like incompatibility with new ROMs, etc.?
any 67 you get from an insurance claim will definately be a refurb. form the posts i have seen from others who have receievd refurbs, most of them still have some type of issue, so they wont be 100% brand new. the joystick would more then likely be in great working condition.
if they have assured you that you WOULD receive a 6700 and not an "alternative" then i say go for it. you can always install the ROM and any hacks you have applied.
that joystick is only going to get worse over time..... and the lonegr you wait the less likely you would get a 6700 form your insurance claim....
lock ups, freezing, phone shutting off mid call... things like that. you can search for "phone insurance" and may be able to see some posts..
and this is not only on the 67 but also on the 66, and i730 forums... these issues are not specific to 6700 insurance units...
usually though the hardware side of the phones are in great condition which is why i would suggest getting another unit if you can confirm you will get a 67. UNLESS you want another phone....
I was having severe prob's with my xv6700 (joystick stopped responding completely). Got an express exchange to a different XV6700. I flashed it with a Helmi 3.5 out of his kitchen. Every now & then my "new" one is quirky (like hitting the left hard button that cooresponds with the left soft button results in the same as if I hit the start button next to it) but it's WAY better than my old one.
The screen was in flawless condition and it even came with an updated stylus (with the little ball in the side of it for tension).
I learned a ton by cooking a ROM and am WAY happier with my "new" unit overall. You're right, it's prob a refurb, but then again, the one I sent them was very USED; so why should I expect a new one?
makes sense - i made sure that i was being sent another 6700, and it arrives tomorrow! first order of business after switching my number over to it . . . my custom 3.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or should i install the rom first and then switch the number over to it? so many decisions with this phone!
