Question Bent battery pin in PPC-6700 -- effect?

Hi everyone. One of the springy pins inside my PPC-6700's battery compartment has somehow become bent downward -- actually, the spring seems to have failed, so the pin now angles downward, and I'm not sure if it's making proper contact with the battery (the remaining pins line up as normal). I've tried bending it upward with a small needle, but to no avail.

My question: Is this likely to have a negative effect on battery life, charging performance, etc.? So far the phone appears to be charging normally, but I may be seeing shorter battery times. Hard to say. I'd just had this phone given to me for a dying 6700, so I'm trying not to ask Sprint to swap it yet again, but I will if that's the best course of action. Just wondering, also, why six separate pins are necessary in the first place.

Thanks very much in advance...aa.
