PDANet vs Internet

My employer just switched from Sprint to Verizon, and so my phone switched from a Sprint PPC-6700 to a Verizon PPV-6700. I've upgraded it to the WM6 build, which has the internet sharing application vs the wmodem app I'd gotten used to on Sprint. Other people in the company have Motorola Q's, which require something called PDANet to achieve the same functionality. Is there any difference in the way that Verizon treats the phone in terms of billing between using PDANet and using ICS? With Sprint it was all the same, but if memory serves the 6700's appear to the carrier as the same whether you're using tethering or dialing using minutes.
