Hey it's free, it works, and it's nice...and I love it.

Here's the link: xda-developers

I downloaded this. and it seem to work fine, but a couple of problems. When I press my headset button to activate the voice speed dial, nothing happens. when I press the button that mapped to the voice speed dial I get an error "Error open the shortcut or locating the target filename." the only way it works is to launch it from programs or from the menu. I dont want to have to pick up my phone while driving. thank you

may need WM6, or a simple regedit tweak...

did you update your phone to WM6? Before when I was on WM5, I had to do a regedit tweak under the bluetooth setting so that I could use the headset button on it to activate voice speed dial. Try the follow to enable voice speed dial with your headset button:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/VoiceCommand
Change Key "LanuchApEnable" from "1" to "0"

James

I am running WM6. I looked in the registry did not see that key, so I added it.
is it a new key or dword value? I added a new key it created a folder, tried to delete it, but the rosco regit on the phone (came with wm6) says my trial is expired and needs a pin or something. I can create entries but not delete them. talked about messed up.

here's a freebie regedit application:
PocketPCFreeware : PHM Registry Editor 0.70

Rosco is a favourite for most of these guys on here, but I don't care for it.

If you didn't see it there, may I suggest you look again. I've been an IT for far too long to start looking in the wrong place by accident and it's easy to do so.
You did install the Voice Speed Dial already, right? It should have created the key for you, but if you triple checked, and it's not there...then yes you'll have to create it. What's vacant in your registry? the Voicecommand folder? or what? Try the link for the editor...you'll be able to create/delete anything you'd like.

heh...have patience my young grasshopper...I had to fool around and I'm unsure what else to suggest. Hang in there, you'll figure it out if you made it this far, just don't give up!

Good luck,

James

after a lot of messing around i finally got this figured out!! when installing the Voice_TRI.cab for some reason it fails to put the Voice Speed Dial.ink file into the Windows\AppButtons folder giving you the dreaded "Error open the shortcut or locating the target filename" when you press button 5. here is an easy fix!!

in file explorer go to: Windows\Start Menu\Programs find the Voice Speed Dial.ink file there and copy it.

then go to: Windows\Appbuttons and paste the file there!

im not sure if this helps the BT issue, but it does work for the button 5 issue.

So will Microsoft Voice Dial 1.5 not work with WM6?

I can see why you asked, and how quite a few people will get this mixed up.

At this rate, to my knowledge - there are two popular voice recognition application for the PPC. One is the paid version 'MS Voice Dial 1.5 and the newest 1.6', and the free version 'Voice Speed Dial'.

I'm sure the MS Voice Dial 1.5 does work with WM5 and WM6.

Thanks, sofar the new WM6 is great, but I need to know what works, I am glad to hear my VC 1.5 is ok, I know this is off topic , but will PZPmenu (the profile manager) work also? If not can I add more profiles to the HTC menu?

that fixed the button 5 problem. but the bluetooth button does not work. all I hear is the confirmation that it connected with the phone, but doesnt launch the voicedial. I wonder if I just need to copy that shortcut someplace.

yeah it does sound like you may need to copy that shortcut someplace else in order to get the BT working... i can work on it, but cant actually test it since my BT piece was stolen let us know if you come up with anything, and ill do the same

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/OEM/VoiceCommand
Change Key "LanuchApEnable" from "0" to "1"

That will fix it...for further instructions, scroll up for my earlier suggestion. However I did find a mistake on my part, earlier, I had 1 to 0...0 means disable, 1 means enable. I noticed that when I reboot my phone, it will revert back to 0/disable mode, and have to enable it again. I don't know how to ensure it stays 'enable/1' though - it'd be nice.
