I use Holux GPSlim 236 Bluetooth GPS Receiver and Infogation's Odyssey Mobile mapping software. Both the hardware and software work great together.
Odyssey Mobile has a 3 day trial. I bought the software at a heavy discount for around $65 dollars for unlimited use back in Dec '06, so check for any specials.
Yeah, and just to answer you other Q. No one that I know of, or have read so far, have been able to use the internal GPS. I will be ordering the Holux GPSlim 240 Bluetooth GPS Receiver soon.
I have the Holux 240 and it works wonderfully. It takes a bit of playing around with to get it to work with TomTom, but I hear iGuidance is easy to set up. I personally prefer the polish of TomTom though.
The 240 works absolutely wonderful in normal streets, but I work near a bunch of skyscrapers and I can't get a fix anywhere in between them. I'd imagine this to be true of all GPS receivers though.
I have a DeLorme Blue Logger that is easy enough to pair with my phone. I just loaded up MS Live Search, and it's cool-and-the-gang.
I see there is way to use a GPS unit with Live Search, but I haven't tried it yet. The benefit is, besides being free, is no need to load up maps on your phone. Live Search pulls the information real time. Plus, it offers traffic congestion, phone numbers, etc.
Other map options I've looked at is Mapoplis (which lets you try the software) and others seem to really like iGuidence.
once a location is fixed, the 240 works perfect in the pocket. You have to stand still for the GPS to lock though. Once it's locked, it can get a signal almost everywhere except complete overhead cover. It even works inside my room.
My office has no windows and the 240 gets a lock in there no problem at all. The only thing I dislike about it is that the on/off switch always manages to get slid in my pocket. Its the only time I have battery issues. It will get switched on and I wont notice it. Other than that I couldnt be happier with it.
