MMS Missing?

Once I did a hard reset on my Verizon XV6700, MMS is no longer available. It does not show up in the "Switch Accounts" menu while in messaging. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Randy

When you do a hard reset remember that you are taking your phone back to original state almost, this means most changes you made in the beginning are lost (which is why I hate to do a hard reset) but now you must go and get the MMS hack and install it and set it up. Here is the link you need to look into below. Good luck.

MMS came with my XV6700

Thank you weedahoe, but my phone came with MMS from the factory. I have had to hard reset twice and only the second time did the problem appear. I've never done a hack of any kind to be able to receive MMS. I would just select MMS from the menu, load photos, type a quick message and send. I also received photos and text as well. I don't understand why the first hard reset 8 months ago didn't remove the MMS feature and this reset did? Randy

well you got me on this one unless you MAYBE got a refurbed phone that someone else had already done the hack, but then you said you had done a hard reset before and it didnt get removed....so i dunno....but it isnt that difficult to load the cab file (I think its a cab) and setup the settings.

Randy,
If I remember correctly, MMS is normally installed from the extended rom as part of the Verizon customization at the end of the hard reset. (countdown 3 seconds etc.) If you interrupt that customization by a soft reset - as is often recommended to prevent loading of garbage apps, especially for Sprint - then you won't have MMS on your phone. In that case you would need to navigate to the extended rom and run the MMS installation cab directly. (Navigate with Total Commander or Resco File Explorer, since the extended rom is hidden from the native file explorer). Alternately, hard reset again and allow all customizations to run. Good luck. tmb

TMB...

I just installed Total Commander and ask if you could give me quick run through to get to that .cab file and launch it. I've never done this before and I'm a little intimidated. How do I find the extended ROM and what does the file look like? I really don't want to screw up here. Thanks so much! Randy

Randy, I assume you're running the last official Verizon ROM update (something like 2.07.2 or 2.2.07).
The following may not be exactly correct - I haven't used the base Verizon configuration for a long time, so I can't repeat this on my phone to confirm.
In TC, you need to manually enter the folder address in the top line: \Extended_ROM\. (You may need a second "\" at the beginning, not sure).
The big file - Apache_VZW_MMS3.0.6.24_20060124.CAB - is the one you want to run (by double-tapping the file icon in TC). If it gives you the option, you need to install this to the device, not the storage card. Also look at the various cab files in the Extended ROM - there may be others besides the MMS that you want to run, e.g. getMMSCtxMenuInfo.CAB (use the "Search" feature to look for keywords: mandatory verizon extended rom). Overall, if you are comfortable with the default Verizon setup and just want to get back to it without hard resetting, then double-tapping "autorun.exe" should run all the cabs, essentially completing the hard reset process and giving you back all the Verizon goodness you want.
As always, backup and sync before doing anything - that way a hard reset, if necessary, is less painful in the end.
BTW, the base Verizon configuration is pretty slow and unstable compared to the alternatives. If you plan on keeping this phone in the long run then you might consider flashing one of the 3.5 ROMs based on "Helmi's new core" over at PPCGeeks.com. The latest "hybrid" versions are fast, stable, and require virtually no tweaking after a hard reset. These volunteer-developed ROMs include the important patches and upgrades to Microsoft's operating system that Verizon has declined to implement. Good luck.
