For the past few months I've been having this problem where, in the middle of a phone call, the speaker volume will drop almost to nothing, and in a quiet room I'm straining to hear the other person. It doesn't seem to be a software setting, as the volume slider remains on high. After a few minutes the volume returns to normal, by itself. It happens with different people, so I know it's not the other person's phone.
Anyone else experience this? I haven't installed any ROM updates or reg changes for a long time. This is on Verizon, btw.
You're not alone. I've had my XV6700 for about 3+ months and I've had the same problem. It doesn't happen on every call, but at least on half of them. It doesn't matter who I'm talking to, or whether I have a strong or weak signal. I'm not dropping the call, I just can't hear them. They fade out for a few seconds, then it jumps back to normal.
Also, it just seems to be an issue with the internal speaker. I've never had the problem with my bluetooth headset. I haven't used the speakerphone enough to judge it that's a problem or not.
I'm afraid it's just a defect in the unit and I'll eventually have to get them to replace it.
I appreciate the reply - sorry to hear you're experiencing the same. I'm hoping it's not a hardware problem, but like you, I suspect it is. Are you experiencing any other weirdness with your phone? People have been telling me it takes 7-8 rings sometimes to reach my voicemail, so I was curious as to whether it could be something on the network end. I would say that it started happening roughly three months ago, which is when you got your handset...so that could be another indicator of something on the network.
I may try calling VZW to see if there's any similar trouble reports.
Nothing else screwy - other than the occasional lockup that everybody else complains about. I haven't had anyone comment about the voicemail. There are times I'll get a new voicemail without hearing the initial ring, but I usually write that off as being in a low signal area.
I'd be interested to know if you learn anything from VZW. I mentioned this to a friend who used to be VZW tech support, but it was news to him. If he happens to come back with something, I'll post it.
