I touched on this before but and was told it was possible but searching for a thread or a how to w/ google has turned up nothing...maybe my wording?
I am syncing my Work LT, my PPC and my Home DT, however I am getting doubles...I know w/ Hotsync there is a way to stop this...someone mentioned in another thread that it was possible w/ ActivSync...but where?
Everyhthing is greyed out!...where do I make these adjustments?
Also someone got a suggestion as to the settings I should use? I put things in on all three machines so they all need to sync but dont want all these doubles!
The duplicates are created when ActiveSync attempts to combine databases. It sometimes happens when a partnership gets corrupted, which can occur if you disconnect the device in the middle of sync, etc. With everything "grayed out," it seems you have a bad or non-existent partnership - so you will need to delete and re-create one, maybe both.
Duplicate removal - your best bet is to attack these in Outlook on the computer, not on the device. There are some systematic duplicate removal tools that you can find at slipstick.com (an Outlook support site), and there used to be a freeware tool (called "Outlook Duplicate Remover") put together by a clergyman in England. The best way is to simply select a table view of the data (contacts, appointments, tasks, or whatever), insert a field (a column) for modified date, then use that field to identify and delete the recent duplicates.
Active Sync settings - First, be sure you have the latest active sync software (release 4.5). (This has the best troubleshooter if you have trouble establishing connectivity for a partnership.) Once you establish a partnership and initiate your first sync, you'll be asked to specify which direction to copy - computer to device, device to computer, or "combine" (both directions). The last option is likely to cause duplicates if you have synced in the past. The best thing to do is decide which of the three databases (LT, DT, 6700) you trust the most, then copy it to the others through a one-way initial sync.
Partnerships used to be very troublesome but seem to have gotten a lot easier with these 4.* releases.
Good Luck. tmb
thank you for the in-depth explination...I finally found the settings..actually in the ActiveSync in the programs...but it doesnt have much of a selection as to what overwrites what...but I think I got it...
Since my 6700 is what I always have on me I am using that as the main one and updating w/ the AS....but if I am at one of the others I will input there...and my net meetings are sent to my LT...so that all should work out though right...
I mean if my LT or DT have something new on them...will my 6700 except them and not just deletem them off those machines?

Thx again!
Bud,
After the initial sync, yes, that's the way synchronization is supposed to work. Just be very careful and deliberate with your initial syncs (i.e. backup everything first, then establish the partnership with all the sync boxes cleared, then add one check box at a time and verify the results.)
When syncing with two PCs, be sure to have the same settings in both partnerships or you will get unintended consequences. For example, syncing 6 months of appointments on the first partnership and only two weeks on the second partnership can result in the deletion of lots of appointments on the first machine. There are tons of threads on active sync problems over the years, and multiple partnerships have definitely created their share of issues - so good luck. (Note: Syncing to an Exchange server is so much easier - you might consider a hosted Exchange account.)

TMB-
I've been trying to get this question answered on different forums: I sync with my work PPC6700 OTA to our exchange server. My question is how can I access my mobile folders to drag and drop files (or copy and paste) on the wireless sync like I can when I used to sync via USB to desktop?
Do I need to set up a separate profile or something to sync that way when I need to access the mobile folders?

Mraif,
There are others far more capable than I am to answer this (I've only been converged for a few months, after 8 years of separate phone/PPC use). Until someone can chime in to assist, this is what I believe:
0. Keep in mind that "sync" (synchronization) specifically means using software to automatically maintain the same version of an item in two or more different locations. Your description of drag-and-drop file access implies the "explore-device" functionality of ActiveSync, which to me has nothing to do with synchronization.
1. The 6700's operating system (WM5) and the Exchange server software only support OTA sync of limited Outlook data. OTA syncing of Exchange public folders is not supported, and OTA syncing of individual server files is not supported. You can still sync files, mobile favorites, and media via USB or BT AS connection to a specific computer.
2. There is no simple way to get explorer-like drag-and-drop functionality between your device and a remote computer or server via OTA (i.e. wireless phone system). I suppose there may be a way using PIE to upload and download files from a server, but I don't know it.
3. As a workaround, you can send files back and forth as attachments to emails. This is kind of klutzy and requires a few extra steps, but it can get the job done. (I've only used it once or twice, mainly to backup specific files to the server while I was in the field.) If you want to do this OTA file transfer from a desktop computer remotely, I suppose you could do it using "remote desktop" to control that computer with your 6700. This is all concept to me though - never done myself.
Good luck, tmb
