Help! I messed up

I was trying to check an email which had an attached file in it. (I don't have a memory card in my phone) and when i sent/recieved, apparently the attached file was to large for the memory that I have left. Now, everytime I do a soft reset, i get a message that comes up and says your space if critically low and you should move some files over etc etc. The only problem is the phone freezes about 3-5 seconds after the today screen comes up and I can't get into the file explorer. I've tried to do it through Activ Sync, but it can't fully connect. It starts to connect and once the phone freezes Active Sync fails. Im extremely worried, what can i do??

(Just to note, I purchased this phone online so I don't have any of the orginal CDs if they are going to be needed)

You can "Hard-Reset" the phone, which will restore all the original applications, without any of your customizations (including your email accounts. activesync, etc). You will then need to add back your non-factory applications and settings. Hard-Reset by holding down both the Left and Right "-" buttons on the bottom of your phone (the ones above the answer and end call buttons). While holding down both buttons, press in the soft-reset button (the small hole in the bottom of the phone - left side) with your stylus. If you do this correctly, you will get a press Y to continue message. Slide out your keyboard and press the Y key. Your phone will be working again in about 5 minutes - minus any applications you had added.

Have you tried to search for large files to see if there's something taking up your storage?

I guess you could go to Settings->System->Memory

and then click on "Find large files using storage memory."

I have added so many apps, I'd really like to avoid a hard reset. Is there anyway else?

As far as searching for files, I can't do that. The phone freezes.

this is why you should have a memory card and a backup program and a previous backup of the device on that backup card. i have set up quite a few of these pda's and i won't touch one unless they have a memory card on which i can backup the device. the last one i set up had much the same problem a month later. solution: hard reset and restore. less than 30 minutes. they were profusely thankful. everybody thinks i am some kind of genius. not. if you came to me with your problem, i would look at it for a few minutes, maybe 30 minutes. i'd give you two choices. go to tech support at sprint or whereever (personally i think they are next to worthless) and/or do the hard reset as above. reinstall programs. i would try to put some on a memory card. and i would do a backup once you were happy with it. i think your problem is that you DON'T have a memory card for what it is that you want to do - which is accepting large e-mail attachments.

If you can't get the phone not to freeze upon re-booting, I think you'll need to hard-reset.

the consenses is that you need to hard reset. that is the IMMEDIATE fix. that's the hard part. the next part is the intelligent part. get a memory card. get a backup program. make a backup. we all know that he needs to hard reset. but do we know what to do after the hard reset? hello? because the real problem is WHAT TO DO AFTER THE HARD RESET.

Have you tried to use activsync to search for files on your computer. I know you say that it is freezing up, but does activsync still work????

I would do a soft reset with your phone already plugged into your USB port. Though the screen is freezing up, is it possible that activsync will still work? If you can get into activsync, you could always explore your device and see if you can locate un-necessary programs this way.

Let us know

the man says active sync doesn't work. let's see now. hard reset and reinstall and finally a backup copy for future restore equals approx 4 hours - give or take an hour. i wonder how many hours or even days one might obsess before doing what is necessary? why is the solution ignored by some. what am i missing here. and oh yea. i forgot. he needs to SPEND some MONEY and get a memory card. occasionally i get the feeling on these message boards that people don't like to spend money. not understanding that this high tech device not only needs tech savvy but additional outlays of cash. i mean doesn't the cash you spend save time so one can get on with other things. isn't that worth money? get a memory card and backup the device and obsess about other things.
