Well, I have done it again, or should I say, the PDA has.
I received a new xv6700 because the old one had issues. This one has the new rom which is cool.
Anyways, I had to uninstall the older 4.2 activesyn since it was paired with my old phone, and I reinstalled activesync 4.5
At first, I had issues connecting over bluetooth, but eventually I figured it out by using com port 5 and initiating the pairing with my phone.
However, after a week, my laptop started giving me these weird error messages, I wish I had written them down, but it was something about com 5 and not being able to connect or something...it kept popping up so eventually I just said delete the connection I think..I dont recall.
Anyways, now I cannot connect via my BT NOR my USB.
I tried uninstalling activesync and reinstalling it, repairing, etc etc.. my PDA says it cannot recognize a PC running activesync.
norton is known for not giving FULL permission to Activesync, zone alarm is also.
its probably OK now since the program has ran with firewall disabled; the permissions should be in place now. you should not have to do that all the time....
the strange error you mentioned that ActiveSync gave you might have been this ... if you had set AS to sync over BT on Com5, then Com5 has to always be available. If you should turn OFF Bluetooth on your PC and reboot ... Com5 isn't available anymore and AS pops up a message about not finding a COM. It asks at that point if you want to (Yes or No) turn off listening on that COM port.
I recently setup Sync of BT on my own laptop and ran into this when I turned BT off one day. The AS service must bind with the COM port when you first boot the PC. If it isn't available at that time you get the message.
actually switching to com 4 doesnt work either since its already set up for com5. Good lord, why is this so darn hard to get straight... nobody else has this problem?
