New to XV6700. Do I need to install ROM?

New to the XV6700. Trying it out of frustration with the 700wx. Definite advantages to each but I am really liking the screen size. Use is mostly phone, Outlook, and Medical Software (ePocrates, Skyscape) and I am trying to get it to load mlb.com so I can listen to the audio. I miss the one hand operation of the Treo. Is there a way to dial a contact directly from contact lisk? In 4 or 5 clicks or less?

First question: Do I really want to start playing with the ROM? I am on Verizon Wireless. What program is the easiest to load? I am all for making the the machine sing a little faster (and who isn''t) but what is the tradeoff, what is the risk? IS there is really S-I-M-P-L-E, step by step instruction for people like me know don't know diddly or have attempted this feat before and which program to load?

My phone is yet a week old so I am still getting around. I cannot seem to find Outlook anywhere. Buehler? Buehler?

Are there updates available for IE to enhance browsers capabilites? ( perhaps a reason why I can't get mlb.com audio broadcasts)

700W and WX each had a "most recent" used icon at the top of the pop up menu? Is this possible to do on the XV or do I have to live the ever growing size of my Start menu?

Thanks for the help already rendered in the "Stickies"

When you update it, it will wipe it out so make sure you have all the data on it somewhere else first.

The firmware update is well worth it in my opinion - faster, less likely to freeze, better BT quality, less likely to get the dark screen o death. Yes IE seems a little quicker.

I would highly recommend getting a copy of SPB pocketplus - lets you customize your today screen.

contrary to what you hear on this forum, you do NOT need to mess with your ROM. if your phone is behaving fine according to your personal taste then leave it alone. all of these custom ROMs floating around here are designed with some things added and some things deleted. if you feel you MUST have one of these ROMs make sure you are educated on what you need to do. we have many discussions about people installing ROMs and getting into trouble, sop make sure you fully read the instructions on how to install these.
