I have yet to hear of anyone who has actually "bricked" their phone when upgrading.

It can happen, but really only if someone installs a corrupt radio rom or if they install an nk.nbf that is the wrong size. These are the two that I have seen. If someone is giving it to you, you should be pretty safe

HELP!!!!??? Bricked??

I know it is frowned upon when someone does that in the title line, but I am really in a bind. I was running Colonel's latest 3.5.7 (Sprint) and I began having some phone radio issues. I complained to Sprint and of course all they could offer was for me to hard reset and then if I still had problems, I would have to process an insurance claim. Of course, I never told them I am running custom ROMS, I just hard reset to load a new ROM. Well, even when I load a stock Sprint ROM, I cannot get past about the 1st or 2nd setup screen. It just freezes up. The quicker I try to step through the screen alignment and then the tutorial, the farther I get. Regardless, I can't get past those screens. I have tried the Sprint stock along with a few ROMS, and all have the same result-they freeze before I can step through setup.

What do I do????

Check out this post and see if that technique does anything to help. I'm not sure if it will or not, but it is worth a shot:

Well, in typical fashion I tried EVERYTHING. I hard reset, soft reset, reloaded sprint rom, other custom roms, and every possible combination of those. At about 2 a.m. I threw in the towel and went straight to the sprint store before work. The tech rep turned it on and it booted!!!!!

I was too embarassed to be pissed off. So, I shook my head and tucked my tail. I am still having some phone radio issues, however, so I either need a new unit (which from what I am hearing won't be possible until the 6 or I may try that method you linked. Thanks for replying!!
