Smile New PPC6700 when warrantied - eventually replace with 6800??

Im like on my 7th unit of the ppc6700. When ever theres a warranty issue that they can't fix, they give me a brand new ppc6700. I say brand new b/c they bring a new unit with the box, but they only give me the unit.

1. Any of you are ever given new ppc6700 to replaced a current one, when faced with a warranty issue?

2. Do you think that once the 6800 hits, they'll warranty a 6700 with a new 6800?

I think they will eventually start replacing the 6700 with the 6800. You'll have to wait until they run out of 6700's though, and that could be a while...

It does work pretty well as a hammer, but really im not sure whats going on. I know im not the only one, from others i know with the ppc on sprint and verizon, they all are having their units replaced from time to time.

After awhile that badboy just decides it doesnt want to work for you, and sprint tech support will try to help over the phone. A lot of times, they cant help you.

That is true.. But at the rate they are having to replace 6700's, may not be to long.

Problem is, they can REFURB all the returned units and dish them out as warranty/insurance replacements for quite a long time after the new units are gone....

wow.. i see. so thats why it took so long for 6600 users to get a 6700 when they had to have the 6600 replaced under warranty. i wonder how they get rid of the scratch and dings though...

thanks for the info

I had my first new 6700vx replaced with a replaced with refurbished unit-- the funny thing is the refurbished unit works better then the brand new one ever did.

I know with my old LG 8000 I had issues with it, I tried 3 phones and called Verizon Customer Service on every one of them. One of the reps put a note in my account history that if the new phone failed then I could upgrade to the 8100. Sure enough it failed out of the box in the store and I walked out with a new 8100.

Of course, I was very polite to the customer service reps so that may have had something to do with it.

i'm on my 11th ppc 6700 i've had 4 new ones the rest all refurbs. the last one i got the rep was like it doesn't look like your having much luck with this phone would you like to try a treo instead, and i told her i'd hold out of the 6800, and that she was should put that in the notes, so hopefully i can get a 6800 when it comes out , no problem.

Haha! It failed in store? That is crazy.. But i know that is the way things go. Thats awesome you were able to upgrade to an 8100 at no extra cost..

Sounds like what im going through. All of my replacements have been new though. Maybe when i get to my 8th or 9th unit, they'll recommend a swap for me as well. I was telling schettj that this issue is bigger than just me. lol

He's only had it for 5mo's though, so soon he will also be in the new/refurb 6700 replacement cycle.. If you do get the 6800 as a swap, let us know and keep us posted.. Thanks!

Yeah, I started out with the first 6700s that Sprint released with the red badge of courage back in Nov. '05. That thing lasted me about 4 months and the replaced it with a refurbished one because the old one kept BSODing on me. The refurb looked brand new, but came in a different kind of box, not the OEM box. That one last me almost a year until the mini USB connection got loose. They just replaced it last month, so now I'm on my third (2nd refurb). I figure once they run out, or stop supporting the 6700s, they have to replace it with the 6800.

This is crazy the amount of users that have these issues where they have to replace the whole unit. Looks like Cingular customers will be able to upgrade to WM6 as a download from Cingular. I wonder if Sprint will do that for us as well. Im thinking with the amount of units they have to replace every month, it would be in their best interest to let us upgrade instead of giving us new units.. But us getting wm6 is unlikely since it looks like the 6800 wont even come with wm6, and the current 6700 i think is only up to AKU2.2 lol.

Yeah, he pulled right out the box - powered it up and I ran through what was causing my other one's to fail, it did the exact same thing and he got me a new phone.

What exactly were you doing that caused it to fail?

i've had the 6700 since it first came out for over a year now and i've never had to replace it with another nor have i had to go to verizon with it to fix it. i have the kirvin stock aku3.5 and it feels like a new phone. and when the 6800 comes out i will get that one. with or without a swap. i could care less. 11 trips to verizon (above)? thats at least 11 hours. if i figure how much my time is worth, then i myself would be better off just buying a new phone and/or not concerned about a swap. i don't understand any of this.

I am also bought my 6700 when it first came out (red label). I am still using the original one with no problems. My only complaint is that it is not the greatest phone I have had. It seems like it is a computer first and the phone is almost an afterthought. I have quite a bit of 3rd party apps on it (Tomtom, pocket weather, battery pack pro etc...). Sometimes the phone part just wont dial out. I have to do a soft reset and all is well again. It is a minor inconvenience in that I do a soft reset every morning and this seems to keep things running smoothly.

at one time i had every app i could fit on the thing which just slowed the thing down and i had to reset all the time. now i just keep a few apps that i absolutely need (gps, sling, voice, opera, xcpu and a couple others) and i have no problems. and with aku3.5 it works great. the only advantage i can see with the 6800 at this point is it doesn't have the extended ant. and it has twice as much memory for more programs.
